Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer.
I hope everyone has had a good first week of June! We got a surprise thunder storm earlier in the week, and it was lovely:-) I know there are hot days coming, so the mild temps so far have been nice.
Our Stellar Jay mom and dad are still (presumably) sitting on their eggs. It’s been several weeks and we’re just waiting to hear little baby bird cheeps so we know they’ve hatched. Note: we can’t see into the nest, it’s up high and built in such a way that it resembles a fortress with high walls, lol. I’ll keep you posted!
Have a good week:-)
Upcoming reads & reviews:
I had preordered a copy of D7 by Philip Fracassi, which is a horror novelette from a small press, and I dropped everything to read it when it arrived. Unfortunately I was disappointed, and it’s too short to dedicate a whole review to, so I’m going to leave a mini review on Goodreads at some point.
I feel like I’m in a slump, so I figured the best way out was to pick up a book I’ve been looking forward to for a long time, The Medusa Protocol. And I was not disappointed! I enjoyed it slightly less than Assassins Anonymous, but it’s such a fantastic series, and Rob Hart is such a solid writer. Look for my review tomorrow.
Next I’m tackling two fantasies. I started The Grimoire Grammar School Parent Teacher Association and was kind of bored, so I set it aside. But I have been seeing good reviews so I’m picking it back up again. And next up will be The Palace of Illusions.
Other posts this week:
For one of my first Summer of Horror posts, I’m featuring a list of Upcoming Queer Horror on Tuesday, in celebration of Pride Month. I’ve found some cool cover reveals for Future Fiction on Wednesday, so stop by to check it out!
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
The Afterlife Project by Tim Weed – Review 5/5 stars
What’s On My Plate – June 2025

I am sorry that Fracassi’s novelette was disappointing!! And squirrel patrol is such a serious matter! We don’t have squirrels here so Ade is always trying his best impersonation of the old lady in the neighborhood, the one who always watches who comes and who goes!
You can be glad you don’t have squirrels, Badger literally loses his mind when he sees one, lol.
I hope The Grimoire Grammar School Parent Teacher Association improves when you pick it up again.
Looking forward to your next Summer of Horror post. I definitely want to make time in my reading for more horror 😀
I’m almost finished with it and it’s really grown on me!
It’s good when you can pick up a highly anticipated novel to get you back on track! My current read that I’m trying to get finished is one like that, only my reading time keeps disappearing! I almost stayed up late to finish last night, but was too tired. My dogs have squirrel patrol too, but they are sitting on the back of the couch at the window, lol. I hope you have some good reading this week and I’m getting caught up on your reviews, so that makes me happy to be closer to what you’re reading now.

I hope you manage to find more reading time this week, it can be tough sometimes.
Squirrel patrol, love it! 🙂 Glad to hear Rob Hart keeps delivering. I like the sound of this series and may have to try it one of these days.
It’s a blast, I wish more people would read it!
I will wait to see if your Jay couple has babies! Greetings from the South of France today as I am on holiday!
How fun, enjoy your holiday!
Love Badger! I hope you find some great reads this week!
Anne – Books of My Heart
Thanks Anne!
Fingers crossed for The Grimoire Grammar School — it was a bit of a random/comfort-zone pushing choice for me, so it’s always a bit worrying when someone else found it boring, hehe. But I’ve seen a lot of positivity about it too, so let’s hope we’ll get into it!
Have a good week!
I’m finishing The Grimoire Grammar School today, and I have to say it’s really grown on me! It was a slow burn in the beginning, but I do love the characters and their struggles. I hope you enjoy it!
I looked up the jay you mentioned and it’s so cool looking!! We have a couple of blue jays that have become regular at our bird feeder now. I have mixed feelings about it; it’s nice to see them, but they kind of bully the smaller birds such that in this past week alone we’ve had 3 instances where small birds have flown into our window out of fright, which has never happened before!
Oh no, that’s so sad! The battle I see most often over bird seed and peanuts is birds vs. squirrels. The squirrels eat all the bird food and it’s so annoying!
We had a problem with squirrels until we started putting bird-safe habanero hot sauce on our bird seed hehe.
If you haven’t read it already I can highly recommend THE TAINTED CUP by Robert Jackson Bennett. I’m almost finished and love the world building and characters.
We’ve been getting thunderstorms on and off all week. I love that picture of Baxter. It looks like he is patiently waiting for somebody or something. That’s disappointing about D7. I love music and was really looking forward to that one. I can’t wait to read your review of Grammar School.
Aww, look at Badger, tensed and ready for action.
Lynn 😀
I thought The Palace of Illusions was quite enjoyable. I hope that one will work for you more than your other reads!
