What’s On My Plate – June 2025

We are nearing the halfway point of the year, can you believe it? June’s TBR is very fantasy heavy, for some reason, but it’s all fantasy I’m excited to read. My most anticipated book of the month is The Medusa Protocol, the second book in Rob Hart’s thrilling series about a group of assassins who have quit the business. I’m also very excited to read Bury My Bones in the Midnight Soil, but really there are so many good sounding June releases. Here are the ones I’m hoping to read, and the titles are linked to Goodreads:

The Medusa Protocol by Rob Hart. My #1 book last year was Assassins Anonymous, so of course I’m uber excited for the follow-up! And I’ve heard the author is working on book #3 already:-)

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab. This is pretty long, almost 600 pages, and unfortunately I only have an eARC (I really struggle with long digital books for some reason), but I’m really looking forward to this one, no matter the page count.

The Afterlife Project by Tim Weed.

The Farmhouse by Chelsea Conradt. This is a debut horror novel about a haunted farmhouse, and although it’s got some mixed reviews, I think it sounds like fun.

The Grimoire Grammar School Parent Teacher Association by Caitlin Rozakis. This sounds like fun: a magical school story told from the parent’s point of view. It’s a rather long title, though, lol.

The Mercy Makers by Tessa Gratton. Another big fantasy book, what’s come over me? Lol. I like the idea of a protagonist who works for her criminal father, so hopefully this will work for me.

Realm of Thieves by Karina Halle. I’ve been wanting to try this author, and I’m having a lot of fun with romantasy lately, so I am excited to try this.

The House on Utopia Way by Stefan Mohamed. This sounds like a bunch of fun, a detective story with a speculative twist!

A Far Better Thing by H.G. Parry. I have yet to read any of Parry’s books, which is one reason I wanted to read her latest.

The Palace of Illusions by Rowenna Miller. This will be my second Rowenna Miller book, and I love the idea of a 1920s themed retelling of The Nutcracker.

An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating by Cecilia Edward. The concept sounds a little goofy—a witch from the 17th century time travels to the present day and must navigate online dating—but I need a few low key reads this month and this will fit the bill.

What books are you looking forward to this month? Do we have any in common?

  1. Nothing wrong with a fantasy-heavy month. I thought I’d requested a physical copy of THE PALACE OF ILLUSIONS but either I’m delusional or it hasn’t been sent yet lol. I can go grab a digital arc, no big deal. I love the nutcracker, so that’s a must-read for me.

  2. I am counting on your review of the new V.E. Schwabe book to see if I want to venture there. I was not a fan of Addie Larue and I’ve heard comparisons so I am worried. I am really curious about The Farm House

I’ve heard that Bury Our Bones is very light on plot so I’m a little worried too!

  3. I finished The Grimoire Grammar School PTA (phew!!) recently, it was a nice, light palate cleanse – just need to get my review written! Nice list, wishing you a happy month of reading 🙂

  4. It looks like you have some great books to get to this month, I can’t wait to hear what you think of quite a few of them. I didn’t realise The Mercy Makers was long but then I’ve been surprised a few times to hear that when I’ve only seen the cover lol. I hope you enjoy your first Parry read. They’re an author I still need to try as well

  5. I’ve enjoyed Karina Halle’s more contemporary or dark romances, might have to try this too. I like Tessa Gratton’s YA novels, but her adult novels tend to be tooooooooo big of fantasy and I get lost in them. lol. Looks like a bunch of great books!

  6. I’m very curious about Bury Our Bones, though I do kinda wish it wasn’t quite so long. But as long as it’s good I’ll bite.

  7. How many interesting books!! I am curious to read your thoughts on The Grimoire Grammar School… And there are some books here that I haven’t seen around but that seems promising!!

I hope to review The Grimoire Grammar School later this week, it’s actually very good:-)

  8. I love the premise of The Grimoire Grammar School and The Ancient Witch’s Guide to Dating. You’ve got a great set of books lined up for June – I hope they are all as good as they sound.
