Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer and Reading Reality’s Stacking the Shelves.
I got to see my kids yesterday, sort of a late Mother’s Day celebration, but now it’s back to business as usual. Bird nest report: we’ve spotted mama bird sitting in the nest, so I’m assuming there are eggs! It’s sort of hard to see since the nest is wedged into a corner and they’ve built up the sides to hide what’s inside. It’s windy today so I’m crossing my fingers everything stays intact.
Have a good week, everyone!
Upcoming reads & reviews:
I just realized I have a bunch of books this month in the 400-600 page range, and so I find myself taking longer to get through my stack. This is a fantasy heavy month, probably one reason for the longer books, so for example, I just finished Shield of Sparrows, but it took me all week to get through. I absolutely loved it, though, so it was well worth it. My review will be up tomorrow! I’m currently reading The Artist of Blackberry Grange, mostly to switch genres and also because it’s only 300 pages:-) Next I might pick up The Incandescent or A Spell for Change. May is quickly slipping through my fingers!
Other posts this week:
Tuesday I may pull together another Wyrd & Wonder themed list; I found three exciting fantasy cover reveals this past week, so check out my Future Fiction post on Wednesday.
Over-booked: this week’s book haul:

I’m happy to say that out of the five books I received this week (two are purchases), I’ve already read three! First up from publishers, I was very excited to get a copy of Sara Raasch’s upcoming romantasy series starter, The Entanglement of Rival Wizards. This sounds like a cute D&D inspired MM romance story, and I can’t wait to read it. Thank you Bramble!
Tracer by Brendan Deneen is a sci-fi, post apocalyptic story that sounds really good. I’ve never read this author but I’m looking forward to it! Big thanks to Blackstone for the review copy.
And with thanks to Tor Nightfire, I received a finished copy of Overgrowth by Mira Grant, which I’ve already reviewed. I loved Grant’s ideas about an alien invasion, but the story didn’t completely work for me.

I don’t buy special editions that often, but these are two I couldn’t resist. First, after I started reading my ARC of Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry, I knew I wanted a copy of the special edition with sprayed edges. Luckily I ended up loving the book, and now I have this gorgeous copy as well.
Last year I preordered the Broken Binding edition of The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones, and it finally arrived. Isn’t it pretty?

Badger is beautiful as always!! And I am curious to read your review of Shield of Sparrows!!
Thanks Suzy!
It’s a busy time for nesting birds – next door have seagulls nesting on their flat roof. I can’t get over how much Badger has grown – he’s beautiful! And your current reading looks fabulous. I’m conscious that I’ve missed out on some gems due to my reading trough. I hope the coming week is a good one, Tammy and thank you for your kind words – much appreciated:)).
Thank you Sarah! I hope you have a lovely week too:-)
Your nest tales are fascinating. So they’ve built a private chamber LOL. I hope everything goes smoothly with the little birds.
No, I’m not envious about your Overgrowth copy ;).
Badger looks like a wolf in that pic!
I guess birds really know what they’re doing! And yes, Badger is rather wolf like 🙂
Glad you had a nice Mother’s Day. Badger is the best! May does feel like it is flying along now we are half way through.
Anne – Books of My Heart
Thanks Anne! I’m trying to figure out how to read all my May books, lol.
Wow, those special editions are gorgeous! I can see why you’d want them!
They are even better in person!
I’m trying so hard to stop myself from buying special editions too! But then I saw one of a book I loved on Instagram and immediately went and ordered it, lol. I’m finally getting some time to go read reviews and I’ve got so many of yours to read! Once school is out I can’t wait to get caught up! Hope you have a good week, love Badger’s picture as always!

Thanks Lisa! Have a great week, I know it’s almost summer for you:-)
You have me intrigued about Shield of Sparrows! And wow, that’s a beautiful edition.
I bought the special edition before I finished reading it, so I’m very glad i loved it!
Loving the painted edges of those books!
Me too! I rarely buy books with painted edges and now I bought two in one month, lol.
I’m excited to read your review of Shield of Sparrows since it’s on my to-read list. I’m glad you loved it! 😀
I think you’d really enjoy it!
Beautiful Badger! So cute about the birds. Saw a lady standing out in a raging storm, holding an umbrella to protect the baby birds in her hanging planter.
**saw her on TikTok, not in person LOL
I love that! The umbrella thing is something I might do too:-)
Badger is so pretty! Those special editions are very pretty.
Thanks Stormi!
I have an ebook of The Artist of Blackberry Grange so will look out for your review. I might make it one of my autumn tbr books, unless I decide I can’t wait that long 😀
Sadly I ended up DNFing the Artist of Blackberry Grange, nothing was happening. But it could be just me.
You did, indeed, read one of my previous books — and gave it a great review!! : ) Thanks again, and hope you dig TRACER!
Thanks for visiting, Brendan!!
So glad you got to see your kids and Badger, your other kid, looks completely in his element in that pic. I love that edition of Buffalo Hunter Hunter. I have a special edition from Owl Crate Horror coming this week. I also bought a special edition of the Octopus book (why can’t I remember the name?). I know you will know what I am talking about. The Unexplained Everything maybe? I will share them this weekend on a weekend post. Great haul!
You must mean Remarkable Creatures:-) I can’t wait to see your special editions!
Sprayed edges have come a long way, look just about as good as the front cover. Awesome to hear the updates on the nest. Keeping fingers crossed all goes well for the birds.
Every once in a while I see one of the Jays (the dad maybe?) come down to eat and drink, but I have no idea what else is going on. I hope to find out soon!
I look forward to the review of Pinborough. I’ll be picking up that one soon.
Lovely Badger. Looks like he’s on the hunt.
Lynn 😀
He’s definitely on the hunt, lots of lizards and field mice in the desert:-)
