Future Fiction #331 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

One highly anticipated thriller and two new fantasy cover reveals, take a look:

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins is back with a thrilling new gothic suspense set in a Gulf Coast beach motel where hurricane season can be murder.

St. Medard’s Bay, Alabama is famous for three things: the deadly hurricanes that regularly sweep into town, the Rosalie Inn, a century-old hotel that’s survived every one of those storms, and Lo Bailey, the local girl infamously accused of the murder of her lover, political scion Landon Fitzroy, during Hurricane Marie in 1984.

When Geneva Corliss, the current owner of the Rosalie Inn, hears a writer is coming to town to research the crime that put St. Medard’s Bay on the map, she’s less interested in solving a whodunnit than in how a successful true crime book might help the struggling inn’s bottom line. But to her surprise, August Fletcher doesn’t come to St. Medard’s Bay alone. With him is none other than Lo Bailey herself. Lo says she’s returned to her hometown to clear her name once and for all, but the closer Geneva gets to both Lo and August, the more she wonders if Lo is actually back to settle old scores.

As the summer heats up and another monster storm begins twisting its way towards St. Medard’s Bay, Geneva learns that some people can be just as destructive—and as deadly—as any hurricane, and that the truth of what happened to Landon Fitzroy may not be the only secret Lo is keeping…

The Storm by Rachel Hawkins. Releases in January 2026 from St. Martin’s Press. I really don’t need to read the blurb, because this is Rachel Hawkins’ new book! I adored The Heiress, and it’s been a long dry stretch waiting for the follow-up to be announced.

In an isolated desert town, a young woman seeking a fresh start is confronted by ancient gods, malevolent supernatural forces, and eccentric neighbours. A witty horror-tinged fantasy, perfect for fans of Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Chuck Tingle, and Rachel Harrison.

When Selena travels to the remote desert town of Quartz Creek in search of her estranged Aunt Amelia, she is desperate and short of options. Fleeing an unhappy marriage, she has exactly twenty-seven dollars to her name, and her only friend in the world is her dog, Copper.

On arrival, Selena learns Amelia is dead. But the inhabitants of Quartz Creek are only too happy to have a new resident. Out of money and ideas, Selena sees no harm staying in her aunt’s lovely house for a few weeks, tending to her garden and enjoying the strange, desolate beauty of the desert. The people are odd, but friendly, and eager to help Selena settle into her new home.

But Quartz Creek’s inhabitants share their town with others, old gods and spirits whose claim to the land long predates their human neighbours. Selena finds herself pursued by disturbing apparitions, visitations that come in the night and seem to want something from her.

Aunt Amelia owed a debt. Now her god has come to collect.

Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher. Releases in November 2025 from 47North. I just spotted the U.S. cover of this book, and I absolutely love it! This isn’t Kingfisher’s usual publisher, so I’m a little curious about that. But I know I can’t resist a new Kingfisher book, no matter what!

A desperate woman’s plot to frighten her husband out of her life takes a nightmarish turn in a chilling novel of modern horror by a Bram Stoker Award–winning author.

Lainey Taylor is being pushed to the brink by her alcoholic husband, Callum. Prone to hallucinations and erratic behavior, it’s only a matter of time before he puts Lainey’s life—and that of their daughter, Beatrix—in jeopardy. A divorce and full custody is out of the question. In Callum’s words: Over my dead body.

Lainey’s sympathetic friend Adelaide has a wild solution. They’ll stage a haunting so convincing it will drive Callum out of Lainey’s life for good. Nothing too over the top: strange smells, noises in the walls, and flies unleashed along the windowsills. It could work. Considering Callum’s alcohol-induced night terrors, he’s already close to broken. With each new scare, Lainey is closer to seeing the haunting through to its bitter, freeing end.

But in a house filled with so much rage, resentment, and fear, is it any wonder that Lainey and Adelaide’s plan goes horribly wrong? As their fake haunting spirals into something no one can control, Lainey discovers that the only way out of this frightening trap is to join forces with Callum, or die trying.

How To Fake a Haunting by Christa Carmen. Releases in October 2025 from Thomas & Mercer. I was so excited to see this cover reveal! I’ve loved Carmen’s last two books (The Daughters of Block Island and Beneath the Poet’s House) and this sounds quite different. I’m here for it though!

  1. Great choices. Snake-Eater is on my TBR too. I couldn’t resist the premise when I heard of it (even if I do still need to try the author for myself) and I love the cover and sound of The Storm too.

  2. A new Kingfisher!! I was thrilled to get an arc of their previous read – and this one looks brilliant. Thank you for sharing, Tammy:).

I’m so excited for it too! This US cover was just revealed, and the UK cover is really nice too.

  3. OK, wow, these all sound fantastic. A big YES to anything by T Kingfisher, always! I’ve never read a Rachel Hawkins book, and I know I really should. This one sounds great, and so does the haunting book. Great picks!

Definitely start with The Heiress if you want to try Hawkins. It’s pretty amazing:-)

  4. The new Kingfisher cover is lovely 😀 How to Fake a Haunting sound interesting, and I enjoyed the previous book I read by the author so might give this a try too.

  5. Barb @ Booker T's Farm

You know Hawkins is a hit or miss author for me, but I remember how much you loved The Heiress. Her books are a quick read, and I always give them a chance so I will pick this one up from the library eventually once released. That is one mighty realistic looking book snake. Nice to see he is still alive and kicking – or should I say slithering? Great choices this week!
