Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer and Reading Reality’s Stacking the Shelves.
Earlier in the week, my husband and I spotted a bird nest on our deck. A Steller’s Jay was in the process of building it, and it was so cool to see! Then the next day, the nest fell down:-( It was wedged under an eve on top of a light fixture, but for whatever reason it wasn’t secure enough. I was crushed (but no eggs were in the nest yet, thankfully). But almost immediately, Stella (yes I’ve named her!) started rebuilding, and the nest is back! I’m trying to watch from afar and not bother her. I did get one photo. Note the decorative touches: some leaves and even scraps of old dog toys, lol.
And of course, happy Mother Day’s to all my mom friends, and that includes dog/cat moms too:-) Have a wonderful week, everyone!

Upcoming reads & reviews:
We Live Here Now was a very creepy and twisty domestic haunted house story, and I really enjoyed it! Look for my review tomorrow. I’m currently reading Shield of Sparrows and might get a review up later this week. I honestly don’t know what I’ll read next, but maybe A Spell for Change or The Devils.
Other posts this week:
Tuesday I’m posting something for Wyrd & Wonder, probably a list, but as of right now I haven’t started one yet. Stop by and we can both be surprised! And Wednesday I have some very cool cover reveals to share on Future Fiction.
Over-Booked – this week’s book haul:

I received a nice selection of review books this week, starting with a beautiful finished copy of The Devils by Joe Abercrombie. I didn’t take a photo but there are full color end covers inside, so pretty! Thank you Tor:-) And yes, I will be reading it soon.
Courtesy of the Orbit team, I received a copy of Red Rabbit Ghost by Jen Julian, which is under Orbit’s Run For It horror imprint. Small town secrets? And a sort of vague story description? Yes, I am definitely on board for this:-)
I was beyond excited to receive a copy of The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Philip Fracassi. Huge thanks to Tor Nightfire! I am always ready to read a new Fracassi book.
Colin Gets Promoted and Dooms the World by Mark Waddell. This sounds like fun! A “Hell-like multinational corporation solving the world’s most difficult problems in deeply questionable ways.” Big thanks to Ace, I’m very excited to try this one.
And from NetGalley, I was approved for Tantrum by Rachel Eve Moulton. Just in time for Mother’s Day, a horror story about motherhood!
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
Cover Reveal: Tea & Alchemy by Sharon Lynn Fisher
Overgrowth by Mira Grant – Review 3.5/5 stars
Another Fine Mess by Lindy Ryan – Review 4.5/5 stars

Badger!! And awww for the nest too! I am glad that Stella is rebuilding it!!
And I love the title of Colin Got Promoted… It sounds fun!! And I am mighty excited for The Devils. I am waiting for my copy to arrive and the wait is killing me!!
Also, happy Mother’s Day!!
I hope we both end up loving The Devils! Thanks Susy:-)
I read a review on GR that mentioned that a lot of the internal dialogue is questions & how annoying that got, which kinda put me off because that’s what I thought of THE LAST ONE by Rachel Howzell Hall. Are there too many internal dialogue-y questions that you thought it was distracting?
Crap I replied to the wrong comment but the jetpack app won’t let me comment on my own thread. 🙁
No worries, I knew you were talking about Overgrowth, right? Yes, so much internal dialog and it all felt very repetive.
Nice nest! I’ll keep an eye out for your review of Shield of Sparrows. I keep seeing it pop up but I’m a bit skeptical about it.
I feel like it should be the next Fourth Wing as far as popularity goes. I’m loving it.
Awe bummer about the first nest but that was one determined little bird and what a huge nest, so cool. Great Badger pic! That Tantrum cover looks like Rosemary’s Baby but with tentacles, can’t wait to see what that one is about when you read it…lol.
Stormi
“Rosemary’s Baby with tentacles” I hope you are right, that’s a great idea!
Awwww having a bird build a nest close to you is so precisou Tammy! And kudos for the bird to do it twice!
I love that they came back to the same spot to rebuild:-)
We seem to always have a bird’s nest on our front porch. The current birds don’t attack us like some previous ones did. Badger! I have two dogs this week. Happy Mother’s Day!
Anne
So far we aren’t being attacked by the birds. They seem more shy than anything.
I love watching the wildlife in my little yard, I’m right on a busy street, but the neighbors on one side of me back up to a little creek so some of that comes over my way too. Badger looking cute as always! Can’t wait to see what you think of Shield of Sparrows. I’m hoping to get more caught up on reading reviews if things can just settle down for me! For sure in a couple weeks when school is out for the summer.

I’m loving Shield of Sparrows so far!
That nest is amazing! Looking forward to your new batch of reviews. Have a great week!
Thanks Lisa, you too:-)
I looked up Steller’s Jay, and it’s such a cute bird! I hope the new nest endures.
Thanks Roberta! I hope so too, so far so good:-)
Birds are such cool animals. I didn’t know what a Steller’s jay was but I did a quick google and wow beautiful birds! Hopefully the nest lasts this time. Fingers crossed!!
So far so good! And we had a wind storm yesterday and it’s still there:-)
I’m excited to see what you think of Shield of Sparrows – I ended up loving it! Hopefully your jay nest is more stable this time I love watching baby birds grow up and fledge!
I’m really enjoying it a lot! I wish I had more time to read, I feel like it’s pretty long and will take me all week to get through. But it’s very good:-)
Cutie-pie Badger!!! And I’m so glad Stella rebuilt her nest! I hope this time it’s more sturdy. I can’t zoom in properly on this Chromebook to see the dog toys. Are they they green things?
The green things are leaves, but there are strips of white material that are a little hard to see, I’m pretty sure these are from dog toys.
So cute!!!!
What a lovely pic of Badger 😀
Tantrum looks bizarre in a good way, will look out for your review.
Thank you:-) I’m very excited for Tantrum. I’ve read quite a few “mother horror” books so it should be interesting.
I love seeing more and more of Badger. He looks very impressed by the car wash right? I still can’t decide if I want to order a copy of The Devils. Read it so you can tell me please
He’s not crazy about being the car, but he does like going to new places! I will definitely be reading The Devils, I’ll let you know what I think:-)
That is so very cool having a Stellar’s Jay nesting right there! I remember how excited I was when I saw one when on travel out west. Beautiful birds.
They are beautiful! We’ve been watching through the window as they hop in and out of the nest, so cool.
Aww I like the decorative touches to the nest. Wasn’t expecting the dog toys 😀
We have so many destroyed dog toys laying around, I guess there are a few outside I didn’t know about, lol.
Hope you had a happy mother’s day! And I just finished The Devils. I really think it’s just me but I didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as everyone else. Curious to see what you’ll make of it.
Of course I now have “the car wash” song in my head.
Lynn 😀
