Over-Booked [206] – April Book Haul

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

This is my last Saturday book haul (at least for now!), and moving forward I’m going to start sharing my new books each week as part of my Buffy’s Corner posts. Or I may just share on Instagram. But in the meantime, I have another pretty big book haul to share, so let’s get to it.

Books in the mail for review:

Breathe In, Bleed Out by Brian McAuley. This slasher story takes place at a spiritual retreat, and it’s been getting some good buzz. I’ll be reading this for my Summer of Horror event! Huge thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the review copy.

Angel Down by Daniel Kraus. This is one of my most anticipated books of 2025, and I’m so excited to have a review copy. Thank you Atria!

From the lovely folks at Bramble, I received a copy of The Enchanted Greenhouse by Sarah Beth Durst. I absolutely loved The Spellshop, and I believe this is set in the same world.

I had fun with Susan Dennard’s last series, so I’m looking forward to checking out The Executioners Three! With thanks to Tor Teen for the ARC:-)

With thanks to Orbit/Redhook, I’m really looking forward to The Palace of Illusions by Rowenna Miller. I enjoyed her last book a lot!

A Spell For Change by Nicole Jarvis. This is a historical fantasy that sounds amazing! Big thanks to Titan Books for this lovely review copy.

I love the cover of Slashed Beauties by A. Rushby, and I love that it’s described as “gothic feminist body horror.” With thanks to Berkley for the review copy:-)

Another Fine Mess by Lindy Ryan is the sequel to Bless Your Heart, and I hope to read this very soon. Thank you to Minotaur Books!

Realm of Thieves by Karina Halle. This is a dragon romantasy that sounds really good. Stealing dragon eggs for survival? I definitely need to check this out. Big thanks to Ace for the review copy.

City of All Seasons by Oliver K Langmead & Aliya Whiteley. I’ve just started reading this and after a dozen pages I’m already hooked. I’m so happy to have this beautiful finished paperback! Thank you Titan:-)

I’ve already read Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones and loved it! With thanks to Tor Nightfire for this finished copy.

Down in the Sea of Angels by Khan Wong. This is a time travel sci-fi story that sounds really good. I’m hoping I can fit this in! Thank you to Angry Robot for this lovely copy.

Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry. This romantasy is getting a lot of early praise, and I love the sound of it. Big thanks to Red Tower Books for the review copy!

The Mercy Makers by Tessa Gratton. This is getting some mixed reviews, which is making me a little nervous. But I’m going to try it! Thank you to Orbit Books for sending a copy my way.

Last but not least, I’m very grateful for this finished copy of Senseless by Ronald Malfi, which I loved. Thank you Titan!

Digital books for review:

Hey, look! Just two new NetGalley books for the whole month! And they look great together, right? Also, please note these are both horror story with older protagonists. It’s almost like I planned it, lol.

The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Philip Fracassi is a slasher that takes place in a retirement home. I mean, come on! This is going to be awesome.

Slayers of Old by Jim C. Hines. A group of retired slayers must save the world one last time. This could be really good!

Thank you Tor Nightfire and DAW Books!

Are you excited for any of these books?

  1. The Enchanted Greenhouse!! You had an amazing haul, so many interesting books!! I hope you will love them all! But I am dying to read The Enchanted Greenhouse! The Spellshop was so full of wonder and amazing characters that I can’t wait to put my hands on it!

I know, The Spellshop was such a great surprise, I can’t wait to read more, hopefully set in the same world:-)

  2. The Enchanted Greenhouse sounds really good. I have The Shepllshop but haven’t read it yet so will give that a try before this new one.

I like the look of The Executioners Three, it’s a great cover, and Slayers of Old sounds like it could be fun. Hope you enjoy all these 😀

  3. That’s a great book haul! I was almost scared to look too closely at all your new acquisitions because posts like this always add to my TBR list…and it’s too long now as it is. ;D

I know what you mean. I am hoping to read The Palace of Illusions early, it’s so tempting:-)

  4. Barb @ Booker T's Farm

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Lindy Ryan book. So many good-looking books here!

  5. It looks like another incredible haul. Seeing this reminds me that I really should get on with the ebook I got myself of The Spellshop too before the next one set within the world comes out. I’m going to have to look up Realm Of Thieves based on what you’ve said. A few of the others are on my TBR too. I hope you enjoy all of these
