Over-Booked [205] – March Book Haul

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

I probably should have split my March book haul into two posts, but here we are! This was a big month for book mail, and not only that, but I totally failed at curbing my NetGalley requests, as you’ll see below. A lot of these come out later in the summer and fall, so although it looks like a lot, the release dates are spread out. I’ve already read three of these, and several are in my April TBR, so I’ll be reading them soon. Here we go:

Books in the mail for review:

I was so excited when Craig DiLouie asked if I wanted a signed ARC of his upcoming horror book, My Ex, the Antichrist, and not only did he send me one, but he sent it from Canada to the U.S., which I feel is a feat in itself these days. Huge thanks to Craig, I cannot wait to read this!

Big thanks to Saga Press for a copy of The Gentleman and His Vowsmith by Rebecca Ide, which is a historical fantasy.

I featured A Resistance of Witches by Morgan Ryan in a Future Fiction post recently, and I’m thrilled to have a review copy:-) Big thanks to Penguin/Viking!

You gotta love the title of It Was Her House First by Cherie Priest, and I’m ready for a good haunted house story! With thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the review copy.

Huge thanks to Orbit for a copy of Once Was Willem by M.R. Carey, which I loved:-)

An Evil Premise by T. Marie Vandelly sounds really good. This is a horror story involving a writer. Huge thanks to Blackstone for providing a review copy:-)

This bunch (except the last one) is courtesy of the wonderful folks at Tor, Tordotcom, and Tor Nightfire, thank you so much! Starting with Cold Eternity by S.A. Barnes, this is a finished copy that will be released April 8th, which is just around the corner.

Gifted and Talented by Olivie Blake. This is a gorgeous finished copy that I didn’t think I was getting, but now that it’s here I’ll definitely be reading it.

I have already read and reviewed Murder By Memory by Olivia Waite, and I’m so glad to have a physical copy for my library!

Don’t Sleep With the Dead by Nghi Vo is a companion novella to The Chosen and the Beautiful, which I read a couple of years ago. This is another April release I’ll be reading soon.

I really enjoyed Rose/House by Arkady Martine, and again, I read the eARC so it’s nice to have a finished copy.

Oooh I was so excited to receive The Library at Hellebore by Cassandra Khaw. This is a dark academia novel that sounds fantastic!

The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas is a reprint of an older book I never read, for some reason. So I’m happy to have the chance to read it now.

I wanted to add a straight up thriller to the mix, so I’m very happy to have a copy of The Deepest Fake by Daniel Kalla. Thank you to Kaye Publicity and Simon & Schuster for the ARC!

Digital books for review:

The Dead Husband Cookbook by Danielle Valentine. I’m glad Valentine is back to adult fiction, since her last YA book didn’t work for me. This sounds like so much fun!

The October Film Haunt by Michael Wehunt. I’ve read Wehunt’s short story collection, so I’m excited to read his upcoming horror novel. And movie/film horror is always a bonus:-)

Departure 37 by Scott Carson. This story sounds trippy in the best way, and I’m looking forward to diving in.

Angel Down by Daniel Kraus. This is getting some excellent buzz, and I do hope it’s all true. After the masterpiece that was Whalefall (yes, my opinion), I have high hopes for this!

Play Nice by Rachel Harrison. I have read all of Harrison’s books, except for one, so of course I’m looking forward to her haunted house story.

The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley. “A slow burn, enemies to lovers romance” and it’s a fantasy. I’ve already seen some good reviews for this!

We Won’t All Survive by Kate Alice Marshall. I didn’t realize this author wrote for the YA crowd, but this sounds like fun, so I’m giving it a try:-)

We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough. It’s been quite a while since I’ve read anything by Pinborough, so I was happy to be approved for her latest.

Coffin Moon by Keith Rosson. Vampires! And this is getting awesome reviews so far. I can’t wait.

Too Old For This by Samantha Downing. Very excited to finally read a Samantha Downing book! And this sounds like fun.

The House on Utopia Way by Stefan Mohamed. I have a pretty firm “no self published books” review policy, unless it’s an author I’ve read before. I read Mohamed’s Bitter Sixteen ten years ago (!) and loved it, and Stefan just reached out about his upcoming book. There isn’t a Goodreads link yet, but the book is being released in June sometime.

Finally, I downloaded The Shivers Collection from NetGalley, I couldn’t resist, especially since I believe these are all short stories by some of my favorite writers.

And that’s a wrap on my March book haul. Let me know if you plan to read any of these books:-D

    I counted 30 books…even if you’ve already read some, it’s still a HUGE haul! I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night LOL. But you’re a fast reviewer…which I’m definitely not ;D.

The House on Utopia Way has an intriguing title! Hoping to know more about it soon.

The author says The House on Utopia Way was “too weird” to be traditionally published, which is why he’s self publishing. I’m a good judge of what’s weird so we’ll see!

  2. This looks like a great haul.
I want to read the Shivers collection too. It sounds really good and features some authors I’ve read before and some I’ve been curious to read for a while. I don’t read many short stories but I think I will give some of them a try.
Hope you enjoy all your books 😀

I love all five authors so it was easy to decide to read it. Hopefully the stories aren’t too long!

  3. You did get quite the haul. I have books from 6 months out most of the time too so the stacking can get lop-sided. Too much horror for me though.

  4. I am always amazed at how many actual ARCs you get each month, not counting digital ones. I would feel a bit overwhelmed but it’s also awesome!

This was a way bigger book haul month than normal, lol. I obviously have a hard time saying “no.”

  5. …that’s like one book a day, Tammy! That’s an INSANE haul—and I thought my April ARCs were out of control!

  6. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader

I loved The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy! And I want to read that book by Kate Alice Marshall too!

  7. Oh, wow! This really is quite the book haul. Almost looks closer to a year’s worth of books than a month’s worth. 🙂

  8. It is SO HARD to resist the urge to hit the “Request” button on NetGalley! Your haul looks AMAZING. So many books I want to read on it. I hadn’t heard of Play Nice, but that immediately went on my TBR! I’m also so excited to get my hands on The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy! I’m definitely in a romantasy phase right now.

  9. Oh wow you weren’t kidding when you said this was a major haul month it’s wonderful that you’ve got copies of a few that you’ve already loved to add to your shelves though. And I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for your thoughts on a fair few of these.

I hope you enjoy your first Samantha Downing book. I can’t wait to check that one out. The rave reviews have left me very curious about Urge To Fall too and I’m very curious about the Sarah Pinborough book. I’ve only read one novel by her but I loved it.

I hope you enjoy all of these.

  10. Don’t Sleep with the Dead sounds really interesting. I always find companion novels interesting.
And I think I need to get on board the Cassandra Khaw train.
