What’s On My Plate – March 2025

OK March. What is going on? March appears to be a HUGE new book release month, and I’m only reading certain genres. Luckily I’ve already read two March releases, which I’m not listing here because I already reviewed them last month. Otherwise this list would be even longer, lol. Let me know if your March TBR is out of control too!

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. This is my MOST anticipated book of the month, and I’ll be reading it very soon. I’ve been hearing really good things.

Once Was Willem by M.R. Carey. This will probably be my next read. Carey is another favorite author with a new book out this year (seriously, it seems like all my favorite authors are publishing in 2025!)

Go Luck Yourself by Sara Raasch. I just finished this and loved it! My review will be up next week.

Chaos by Constance Fay. This is book #3 in her Uncharted Hearts series, and for some reason I’m really enjoying romance stories right now (as long as they are sci-fi or fantasy). This will be fun!

Vanishing Daughters by Cynthia Pelayo. Pelayo has quickly become another favorite author of mine, and I’m excited to check out her latest Chicago-based horror story.

White Line Fever by K.C. Jones. Lots of mixed reviews for this book, but I loved Jones’s last book so I’m still looking forward to it.

When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi. I’m currently reading this and despite the ridiculous premise (the moon suddenly turns into cheese!), I’m really enjoying the story so far.

The Haunting of Room 904 by Erika T. Wurth. This horror/mystery sounds really good, and this will be my second book by the author.

The Antidote by Karen Russell. This is a literary, magical realism Wizard of Oz retelling, and it sounds amazing. Plus I adore Russell and haven’t read anything by her in years.

Where the Bones Lie by Nick Kolakowski. This is a mystery/thriller set in Los Angeles, and I always love reading about my home town:-)

Rose/House by Arkady Martine. This is a reprint coming out from Tordotcom, and I’ve seen some good reviews, so I’m looking forward to it!

Original Sinner by Kait Ballenger. The author was kind enough to send me a copy of her latest book, and I’m quite looking forward to this spicy romantasy.

The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas. This vampire classic was originally published in 1980, and I’m so glad Tor is reprinting it this year.

Blood on Her Tongue by Johanna van Veen. Another vampire story (I think) and it’s also being billed as Gothic horror. Isn’t the cover lovely?

Rose of Jericho by Alex Grecian. Historical horror is a subgenre I really enjoy, and this one sounds great!

Twice As Dead by Harry Turtledove. I can’t believe I’ve never read anything by Turtledove, so this paranormal mystery should be fun.

Are you planning to read any of these books?

I enjoyed Rose/House, for the most part. Still looking forward to White Line Fever, though I wasn’t approved for an ARC. I’m not usually a fan of retellings, but The Antidote sounds more like a book that uses TWOO as a departure point for a story of much bigger scope…

I’ve been reading reviews for The Antidote and no one has mentioned the Wizard of Oz. So maybe I’m wrong? But seriously “Uz” “scarecrow” “Dustbowl”. These all say WOO to me.

  2. None of these are on my TBR although many of them have great covers. You’re not the first person to comment on the amount of new releases in March. I have 8 books on my list and I only read an average of 8 so, yes, I’m a little overbooked.

    • Tammy

I wish I could get to all of these but some will have to be pushed to other months. Oh well, I guess there are worse problems to have!

  3. Lauren Always Me

So many good looking books are coming out this month! I haven’t read anything from Turtledove either, but this one may be my first. ☺️

  4. Hmm I don’t have any of these on my list. I had a few slots for March which I finalized this week. That’s kind of how I’m handling it these days. July is looking hot and heavy though.

Anne – Books of My Heart

    • Tammy

I think the audio book will be fun. I just finished it last night and it’s really different than I was expecting!

  5. I didn’t get Go Luck Yourself early like I did the first in the series, so we’ll see when I get to that. I’m waiting for the John Scalzi book to be on audio, hoping for a Wil Wheaton narration again. I heard the author read a chapter out of it when he came to Kansas City last year, and I am so ready to read it!

  6. Hmmm 16. That’s… problematic, Tammy. I believe you only got through 8 last month. At least my 2-4 this month was reasonable

    • Tammy

Obviously I won’t get to all of them this month. But there are so many books I want to read!

  7. Wow, that is quite a large collection… Of them I’ve had my eyes on Buffalo Hunter Hunter, Once Was Willem, and The Antidote. And then there’s Harry Turtledove, known for his speculative alternate history. I’ve yet to read any of his books but have been wanting to for 2 or 3 decades now. One day!

    • Tammy

I feel the same about Harry Turtledove. There’s no excuse I haven’t read his books yet. And I met him one year at Comic Con!

  8. I’m also looking forward to trying Once Was Wihelm. I’ve only tried Carey’s Girl With All the Gifts so far but liked his writing there.

    • Tammy

I might start it today. I’ve heard it’s slow in the beginning, but it’s a fairly short book so I’m just going to dive in.

  9. I think March seems to be a super popular publishing month for some reason. I’ve noticed it in previous years too. Good luck getting everything read. I didn’t realise vampires were such a popular subject this month though how wasn’t I aware of koee of these? Your most anticipated two are probably the ones I’m most intrigued by on here but I have a few of the others on my TBR too. I hope you have a wonderful March.

  10. Oooh I feel like we have some different ones this montH! The only ones I have on my for-review agenda are White Line Fever and Chaos (enjoyed) and When the Moon Hits Your Eye (up next). BUT I want to read nearly all of these, so I am very eager for your thoughts! My March books were all really good this year, so I hope yours are too!
