Future Fiction #320 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today is for the cozy fantasy lovers! I found three new adorable sounding (and looking) books, take a look:

A powerful plant witch and a grumpy alchemist must work together to save their quiet town from a magical plague in this debut cozy fantasy romance about starting over, redemption, and what it really means to be a good person.

Guy Shadowfade is dead, and after a lifetime as the dark sorcerer’s right-hand, Violet Thistlewaite is determined to start over—not as the fearsome Thornwitch, but as someone kind. Someone better. Someone good.

The quaint town of Dragon’s Rest, Violet decides, will be her second chance—she’ll set down roots, open a flower shop, keep her sentient (mildly homicidal) houseplant in check, and prune dark magic from the twisted boughs of her life.

Violet’s vibrant bouquets and cheerful enchantments soon charm the welcoming townsfolk, though nothing seems to impress the prickly yet dashingly handsome Nathaniel Marsh, an alchemist sharing her greenhouse. With a struggling business and his own second chance seemingly out of reach, Nathaniel has no time for flowers or frippery—and certainly none for the intriguing witch next door.

When a mysterious blight threatens every living plant in Dragon’s Rest, Violet and Nathaniel must work together through their fears, pasts, and growing feelings for one another to save their community. But with a figure from her past knocking at her door and her secrets threatening to uproot everything she’s worked so hard to grow, Violet can’t help but wonder…does a former villain truly deserve a happily-ever-after?

Violet Thistlewaite is Not a Villain Anymore by Emily Krempholtz. Releases in November 2025 from Ace Books. This cover is seriously the cutest ever, and the story sounds like fun. And there might be a dragon involved?

Ali Hazelwood meets Dungeons & Dragons in this enemies-to-lovers fantasy academia romcom where rival grad student wizards are forced to work together without killing―or falling for―each other.

Will they conjure love, or evoke chaos? Two rival wizards are about to find out.

Sebastian Walsh: twenty-four. Grad student at Lesiara University in the Mageus of Evocation program. Human. The first of his family to go to college rather than the military (and it goes over at family get-togethers about as well as you’d think).

Elethior Tourael: also twenty-four. Also a grad student, but in the far more inferior Mageus of Conjuration program. Half-elf. The latest in a long line of Touraels to grace the hallowed halls of Lesiara U (what would the world do if the Touraels ran out of rich douches to lead their magical weapons manufacturing empire?).

―and the other finalist for the Mageus Research Grant.

Sebastian needs that grant to fund the last few months of research for his degree, after which he’ll get a job that actually helps people. He isn’t about to let anyone snatch this from him, least of all a snob who doesn’t even need the money because his family is loaded thanks to war profiteering.

But there’s something worse than having a conceited academic nemesis steal grant money from you: you could be forced to work with him. Thio is secretive, broody, and his stunning biceps take up far too much shared lab space―but even as volatile as their partnership is, Sebastian just might find himself falling for his rival―and it could blow up his whole future.

The Entanglement of Rival Wizards (Magic & Romance #1) by Sara Raasch. Releases in September 2025 from Bramble. This looks like the start to a new series, which I’m excited about! I’m already reading Raasch’s Royals & Romance series, which I’m loving, so it will be fun to start something new. Plus, another cute cover!

How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days is a comfort read fantasy romance between a halfling and a goblin: imagine a classic opposites-attract romcom taking place in those cosy scenes in the hobbits’ Shire from The Lord of the Rings. Expect magical forests, interfering wizards, lots of home cooking, and maybe even a kiss at the Harvest dance…

When a halfling, Pansy, and a goblin, Ren, each think they’ve inherited the same cottage, they make a bargain: they’ll live in the house together and whoever is driven out first forfeits their ownership. Amidst forced proximity and cultural misunderstandings, the two begin to fall in love.

But when the cottage – and their communities – are threatened by a common enemy, the duo must learn to trust each other, and convince goblins and halflings to band together to oust the tall intruder.

Perfect for fans of cosy fantasy novels including Legends and LattesThe House in the Cerulean Sea and The Lord of the Rings.

How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days by Jessie Sylva. Releases in January 2026 from Orbit Books. Cover designers are killing it these days, especially when it comes to cozy fantasy/romance. Another cute cover, and another cozy-sounding fantasy!

  1. All of these sound good but the one I like most has to be How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days. I’ve always thought a series like a vibe like the Shire days in LOTR would be amazing to read, and now here it may be 😀

  2. I recently added the Goblin one to my TBR too. Naturally the cover caught my eye but I’ve also loved cosy fantasy so far and majorly want to try more. The first of these sounds fantastic too. I love the idea of the witch changing her ways and the mildly homicidal houseplant majorly intrigues me. I hope you enjoy all of these.

Ha ha, the homicidal house plant is an intriguing idea! It will be fun to see how the author handles it.

  3. I LOVE the sound of all of these – but especially the last one. You had me at the Shire… Thank you for sharing, Tammy:)). I’ll be looking out for these offerings in due course.

  4. Very cool choices! The first and third appeal to me much more than the 2nd (but maybe it’s the comparison to Ali Hazelwood that’s putting me off that one). Fun to see more cozy fantasy romances coming our way!

  5. Barb @ Booker T's Farm

Man, I’d be down to read all of these as long as time allows. I definitely want to read the Vioiet Thistlewaite one though. What a cute cover.

  6. Literary Feline

I want to read all of these! I need more cozy fantasy in my life. These all sound good, Tammy! Thank you for sharing!

  7. Lauren Always Me

All of these sound pretty cute and they’re going on my tbr. Thanks for putting them on my radar!

They are everywhere! I’ve read some good ones so I’m already scoping out anything new that comes along.
