Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Three fantastic new covers, three different genres: science fiction, dark fantasy and horror, take a look!
From the acclaimed author of The Stardust Grail comes the epic tale of two sisters who sail across oceans to find their missing third sister―and Earth’s environmental salvation.
In Earth’s not too distant future, seas consume coastal cities, highways disintegrate underwater, and mutant fish lurk in pirate-controlled depths. Skipper, a skilled sailor and the youngest of three sisters, earns money skimming and reselling plastic from the ocean to care for her ailing grandmother.
But then her eldest sister, Nora, goes missing. Nora left home a decade ago in pursuit of a cure for failing crops all over the world. When Skipper and her other sister, Carmen, receive a cryptic plea for help, they must put aside their differences and set out across the sea to find―and save―her. As they voyage through a dying world both beautiful and strange, encountering other travelers along the way, they learn more about their sister’s work and the corporations that want what she discovered.
But the farther they go, the more uncertain their mission becomes: What dangerous attention did Nora attract, and how well do they really know their sister―or each other? Thus begins an epic journey spanning oceans and continents and a wistful rumination on sisterhood, friendship, and ecological disaster.
Saltcrop by Yume Kitasei. Releases in September 2025 from Flatiron Books. I’m a HUGE fan of Yume Kitasei, and I was so excited to see this cover revealed recently. I’m getting All the Water in the World vibes, which is a good thing, and in the hands of Kitasei I think it’s going to be fantastic!
From New York Times bestselling and Hugo Award-winning author T. Kingfisher comes Hemlock & Silver, a dark reimagining of “Snow White” steeped in poison, intrigue, and treason of the most magical kind.
Healer Anja knows little of politics but much of poisons. When she is summoned to treat the mysterious illness afflicting the king’s daughter, she finds herself against the clock, desperate to track down the source of the poison killing Princess Snow. But the chance discovery of a strange alternate world inside a magic mirror leads Anja to darker discoveries, including what really happened to Snow’s dead sister, Rose, and why their mother seemingly went mad and cut out her heart.
Aided by a taciturn bodyguard, a narcissistic cat, and a late Renaissance understanding of the scientific method, Anja must navigate the mysteries of the mirror world before the dark queen that dwells within rises to threaten them all.
Hemlock & Silver by T. Kingfisher. Releases in August 2025 from Tor Books. This sounds like another fantastic Kingfisher retelling, and I can’t wait!
Horror Movie meets the scope and emotion of Stephen King in this heart-pounding, magnetic tour de force about a woman pulled into a cult horror film that is determined to have a sequel, by critically acclaimed author Michael Wehunt.
Ten years ago, Jorie Stroud was the rising star of the October Film Haunt – a trio of horror enthusiasts who camped out at the filming locations of their favorite scary movies, sharing their love through their popular blog. But after a night in the graveyard from Proof of Demons – perhaps the most chilling cult film ever made, directed by the enigmatic Hélène Enriquez – everything unraveled.
Now, Jorie has built an isolated life with her young son in Vermont. In the devastating wake of her viral, truth-stretching Proof of Demons blog entry — hysteria, internet backlash, and the death of a young woman — Jorie has put it all, along with her intense love for the horror genre, behind her.
Until a videotape arrives in the mail. Jorie fears someone might be filming her. And the “Rickies” – Enriquez obsessives who would do anything for the reclusive director – begin to cross lines in shocking ways. It seems Hélène Enriquez is making a new kind of sequel…and Jorie is her final girl.
As the dangers grow even more unexpected and strange, Jorie must search for answers before the Proof of the movie’s title finds her and takes everything she loves.
This riveting and layered horror novel unleashes supernatural terror in a world where truth can be manipulated, and nothing is as it seems. Beautiful and horrifying, with an unforgettable cast of characters, The October Film Haunt will shock and delight readers all the way to its breathless final page.
The October Film Haunt by Michael Wehunt. Releases in September 2025 from St. Martin’s Press. I am soooo excited for this book! I loved Wehunt’s short story collection Greener Pastures, and this is going to be a priority for me this fall.

I need to do that too!
I LOVE the cover for Hemlock & Silver!
It’s so pretty!
Hemlock & Silver was already on my TBR (even though I still need to try something by the author) but seeing the cover for the first time is fantastic. It’s utterly stunning Saltcrop sounds interesting too and I’m adding it to my TBR. I hope you enjoy all three of these though.
Thanks Charlotte. The Kingfisher is such a detailed cover, I keep seeing new things:-)
Hemlock & Silver is a must for me! It sounds amazing, and I love the cover. Saltcrop has a gorgeous cover too, and it sounds interesting — I’ll wait for some reviews, but it could be something I’d want to read. Great picks!
Thanks! So excited for all of these:-)
T. Kingfisher really is the gift that keeps on giving. Hemlock & Silver sounds amazing, as per usual. I really do need to catch up!

I love the cover of Hemlock & Silver and will obviously get hold of a copy at some stage. Kingfisher books are a must-have, these days. And I was enormously impressed by The Deep Sky, so I’ll be looking out for Saltcrop, too:)). As ever, you’ve got the cool books, Tammy!
Thanks Sarah! Saltcrop is going to be a must read for me:-)
Oh wow the first two are amazing and could be my cup of tea!!!
I think you’d enjoy them too:-)
These all sound fantastic. I love the cover for Saltcrop. And of course, I’m always here for more Kingfisher retellings! I’ve found I have a lot of fun with stories that incorporate some sort of horror film/haunted film/etc. concept, so The October Film Haunt sounds like one I’ll have to check out.
I’ve read quite a few film/movie/horror stories, so I definitely want to check out The October Film Haunt:-)
Book snake is taking on a different look here but still alive and well I see. I am interested in that retelling though. I saw The October Film Haunt somewhere this week and already added it to my wish list. That title doesn’t flow very well though in my opinion.
Ha ha book snake is never far away;-) And I agree, The October Film Haunt is a weird title…
All off them have beautiful covers. Saltcrop sounds amazing. Hemlock & Silver also appeals to me. One of these days I will read a T. Kingfisher book! I hope you enjoy all three of these when you read them, Tammy!
Thanks Wendy! I love these covers as well:-)
All of these sound great, but Wehunt’s book is completely new to me. Thanks for the introduction.
I am SO excited for Saltcrop and Hemlock! So, so excited. Now you have me VERY curious about The October Film Haunt, first because I love the cover, but then I read the synopsis too, and YEP, need it too. Great choices, this week is next-level great!
I had these on my Goodreads watchlist but only seeing some of the covers now. Love the one for T Kingfisher’s upcoming book!
