Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Today I have three SFF summer releases with evocative covers, take a look:
When night descends, el Carnaval de Bestias rises.
They come chasing paradise…
Within the shores of Isla Bestia, guests from around the world discover a utopia of ever-changing performances, sumptuous feasts and beautiful monsters. Many enter, but few ever leave—the wine is simply too sweet, the music too fine and the revelry endless.
Sofía, a freedwoman from a nearby colonized island, cares little for this revelry. Born an enslaved mestiza on a tobacco plantation, she has neither wealth nor title, only a scholarly pragmatism and a hunger for answers. She travels to el Carnaval de Bestias in search of her twin brother, who disappeared five years ago.
There’s a world of wonder waiting for her on the shores of this legendary island, one wherein conquerors profit from Sofía’s ancestral lands and her people’s labor. But surrounded by her former enslavers, she finds something familiar in the performances—whispers of the island’s native tongue, music and stories from her Taike’ri ancestors…a culture long hidden in the shadows, thrust into the light.
As the nights pass, her mind begins unraveling, drowning in the unnatural, almost sentient thrall of Carnaval. And the sense that someone is watching her grows. To find her brother and break free, Sofía must peel back the glamorous curtain and face those behind Carnaval, before she too loses herself to the island…
Beasts of Carnaval by Rosália Rodrigo. Releases in July 2025 from Mira. I don’t usually follow this publisher, since Mira is mostly known for mysteries, but I couldn’t resist this gorgeous cover and the story description. Doesn’t it sound good?
Every woman who has lived on this farm has died. Emily just moved in.
When Emily Hauk’s mother dies, it’s time for her and her husband, Josh, to finally leave San Francisco. A farm in rural Nebraska is everything they want for a fresh clear skies, low costs, and distance from the grief back home.
They should have asked why the farm was for sale.
Three years ago, a teenage girl went missing from the farm. Soon after, the girl’s mother mysteriously died. The deeper Emily digs, the more stories she finds of women with a connection to her new home who’ve met their own dark ends.
The farmhouse was meant to be Emily’s fresh start, but with each passing day, her sanctuary slips further away. The barn seems to move throughout her property, as though chasing her. Her mother’s favorite music drifts across the corn. She swears she saw blood in one of the farmhand’s trucks. And the screams that wake her are not foxes, no matter how many times her husband says otherwise.
Despite Josh’s skepticism, Emily feels the darkness that has seeped into the soil of her farm. And if she wants to claim this place as her own, she’ll have to find the truth before whatever watches from the cornfield takes her too.
The Farmhouse by Chelsea Conradt. Releases in June 2025 from Poisoned Pen Press. Ooh a haunted farm story! This sounds really good, and the cover seems perfect for it.
From the author of Wild and Wicked Things comes a dark gothic fantasy about two young women struggling to find the freedom of choice in a world where their path feels predetermined. Turning to each other, they soon find themselves sinking deeper into a world of beauty, poison, and the insatiable quest for knowledge.
Thora Grieve finds herself destitute and an outcast after the sudden death of her husband only a few weeks into their marriage, but a glimmer of hope arrives when a family friend offers her spot at a university to study botany under a famed professor. Once at the university Thora becomes entranced by a mysterious young woman, Olea, who emerges each night to tend to the plants in the professor’s private garden.
Thora soon that a mysterious illness prevents Olea from leaving the garden. Hungry for connection, Thora befriends Olea through the garden gate and their relationship quickly and intensely blossoms. The visceral connection between Thora and Olea unlocks an obsessive desire in Thora as she throws herself into finding a cure for Olea’s ailment. But is this really love or is it merely lustful intoxication? Thora’s finally found the freedom to pursue her deepest desires, but at what cost?
This Vicious Hunger by Francesca May. Releases in August 2025 from Redhook. There’s something about mysterious gardens that always calls to me, and who can resist this gorgeous cover? This sounds more romance focused that anything else, but I’m definitely keeping it on my radar.
All three of these books sound so good and atmospheric! The covers really stand out as well. 2025 is gonna be a crazy good publishing year! 😀

Wow, you’ve hit it out of the park today with these. The cover of Beasts of Carnaval is absolutely stunning but it’s The Farm House that I really need right now!
