Over-Booked [201] – November Book Haul

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

The 2025 review books are starting to roll in (mostly thanks to Tor, who has been extremely generous), so today’s haul consists of all 2025 releases except for one. In any case, this is an exciting haul, so let’s get started!

Books in the mail for review:

This stack is from Tor Books, so huge thanks to them for being so generous! Starting off with The Relentless Legion by J.S. Dewes, the conclusion to her fantastic space opera series The Divide. I was hoping to get to this for Sci Fi Month, but it might carry over into December.

I was thrilled to get a copy of Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis, one of my most anticipated February releases. This is the start to a new romantasy series, and I can’t wait to dive in!

The next three are Tor Nightfire releases. First up, White Line Fever by K.C. Jones, which sounds so good. I love stories about creepy roads, and this should be fun.

Rose of Jericho by Alex Grecian is a historical horror novel involving witches and ghosts!

After loving Nat Cassidy’s Nestlings, I’m very curious to read his next book, When the Wolf Comes Home. This may or may not involve werewolves…

Murder by Memory by Olivia Waite comes courtesy of Tordocom and is a cozy sci-fi novella. I love this cover and the story sounds really good too.

I adored Cynthia Pelayo’s Forgotten Sisters earlier this year, so I’m so happy to have a copy of Vanishing Daughters. This looks like another of Cynthia’s trademark horror stories set in Chicago. Huge thanks to Kaye Publicity for the review copy!

The Otherwhere Post by Emily J. Taylor was a surprise arrival, at least I don’t remember requesting it. But I’m thrilled to have a copy! This is a YA fantasy that’s been getting some good reviews. Big thanks to G.P. Putnam’s Sons for Young Readers:-)

Huge thanks to Blackstone Publishing for a copy of At Dark, I Become Loathsome by Eric LaRocca. I love Eric’s writing and their unique horror stories, so this should be good.

Finally, with thanks to Tordotcom I received a copy of But Not Too Bold by Hache Pueyo, described as “a sapphic monster romance novella.” I mean, how can you resist that!

Digital books for review:

I’ve been very choosey about requesting books on NetGalley, but here are a few I’m super excited for.

Direct Descendant by Tanya Huff is a cozy mystery/horror with some mixed reviews, but I’m very curious to see how the story relates to the fantastic cover.

I’m beyond excited to read the second book in Robert Jackson Bennett’s Shadow of the Leviathan series, A Drop of Corruption. The first book was amazing!

I recently featured All the Water in the World by Eiren Caffall on 25 Science Fiction Books to Read in 2025, so of course I’m excited to have a review copy:-)

I was so happy to be offered a copy of Ai Jiang’s upcoming fantasy book, A Palace Near the Wind. This will be the first fantasy of hers I’ve read, so I’m very curious!

I didn’t even know about The Last Session by Julia Bartz, so I was excited to be offered a copy. I read Bartz’s The Writing Retreat last year and really enjoyed it.

I actually already own a copy of The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas, but Tor is releasing it under their Tor Essentials line and I wanted to finally read it.

Big thanks to DAW, Del Rey, St. Martin’s Press, Ai Jiang, Atria/Emily Bestler Books and Tor Books:-D

Do you plan on reading any of these books?
