Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
All of Southern California (at least) is in a heat wave at the moment, even my little, usually cool mountain town, so I’m staying inside and running the air conditioning a lot. Wherever you are, I hope your weather isn’t this bad (mid 90s). I think this week is going to be more of the same, so here’s hoping it cools down after that. Otherwise, I’ve loved having four days off work, and it’s going to be tough to go back tomorrow.
Upcoming reads & reviews:
July is off to a rocky start, reading wise. I was very disappointed with Two Sides to Every Murder, and I’ll explain why in my review tomorrow. I’m only halfway through Wilderness Reform, and I’ve been reading it for a week! This book is SLOW, and I honestly thought about DNFing it at one point. But I’m curious to see how it ends, since I have no idea where the story is going. Hopefully I can review it later this week. I did start Filthy Rich Fae, which is entertaining me so far, and I’ve read the first chapter of A Misfortune of Lake Monsters and I think it’s going to be fun!
Other posts this week:
I just realized I have quite a few “mid year” posts to cram in this month, lol. Starting with the Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag, which I’m posting this Tuesday; Wednesday will be the usual Future Fiction and three new cover reveals I’ve spotted on social media; and Friday I’m posting my results for Five Star Predictions for the First Half of 2024, how many out of the ten do you think I gave five stars to? No cheating;-)
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
Over-Booked [196] – June Book Haul
The Nature of Disappearing by Kimi Cunningham Grant – Review 4.5/5 stars
Most Anticipated Books of 2024 – Third Quarter
What’s On My Plate – July 2024

In Belgium it’s right now 18°C celsius which according to google is 64.4 °F. It’s going up again next week but I’m definitely fine with this weather now. I don’t don’t like heat so I know I wouldn’t do well in Southern California. Hang in there!
Wow, can I come visit? Seriously 64 degrees sounds amazing:-)
It’s been in the upper 90s here in the general Washington, DC area, eek. I’ve been staying mostly inside, too, though I decided to go outside yesterday and do some potato harvesting (long overdue). Funny you mention FILTHY RICH FAE…I was at Target yesterday and the full collection was there! I’d never heard of them before…well, maybe the vampire one, possibly on your blog??
I actually have a copy of Filthy Rich Vampire but haven’t read it yet. The fae book is really fun so far!
It’s been hot everywhere but I have seen those nasty temps in Califorina, you keep those…lol. Hope this week is a bit cooler.
Have a great week and happy reading!
Stormi
Thanks Stormi! Fingers crossed for cooler weather soon.
yes it’s been hotter than normal here too, and particularly higher dewpoint and some humidity. We have to go out after breakfast for our walks because even then it is in the 90s. I used to go before dinner other summers but it’s much too hot then. I’m really looking forward to your 5* predictions tally.
I’m debating whether to predict ten more 5 star books for the second half of the year, but I need to do it this month if I’m going to!
We had a cooler week, which was the first 4th I can remember in a long time where we didn’t sit outside sweating to death. It was nice! I hope your heat wave passes soon! I think we might heat back up this week? I’ve got several of your reviews to catch up on too. The Geneva Lee book is one I have been interested in trying, or at least something from her. Have a good week!
I’m really enjoying the Geneva Lee book, this is my first by her but won’t be my last:-)
Those horror books look interesting. Especially Two Sides to Every Murder.
Two Sides To Every Murder turned out to be disappointing for me, but a lot of readers love it!
I’m curious to read your thoughts about “Two Sides to Every Murder” because that’s a YA suspense book, which is a very popular genre for teen readers. As a librarian, I can say that book has been circulating a lot and is on a lot of request lists. I know I’m won’t be reading it anytime soon, but I’m curious to know whether or not the book was written strictly for teens.
I think teens will enjoy Two Sides to Every Murder. It just wasn’t for me, unfortunately.
Sorry you’re dealing with a heat wave. They’re no fun. My husband and I constantly run our A/C because we regularly deal with temperatures from the 90s upward. Fortunately, we were only in the low 90s / high 80s this past week while the week before we hit triple digits. 🙁
Sorry your reading has been less than stellar this week. I hope Filthy Rich Fae and A Misfortune of Lake Monsters end up being good. I always love the beginning, middle, and end of year posts. They’re so much fun to write.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Filthy Rich Fae is really fun so far!
That’s hot!! So sorry about that!! And I am sorry that, reading wise, your July didn’t start great, but it seems like things are getting better!!
So far it’s been a weird reading month. But I have a lot of good books coming up:-)
Heat like that really doesn’t sound like much fun at all. Am really curious about Two Sides to Every Murder so am off to read your review of that now.
What a lovely photo 😀
Thank you! Yes, hoping by the end of the week the temps will be much cooler:-)
Yeah, the heat (and humidity) has been getting old. Been in the mid to upper 90s and has broken 100. Heat index has been higher with the humidity. So like you, have mostly been staying inside. Sorry to hear about the slow start to July. Hurry up and get that over with so you can enjoy the rest of the month! I love that hooded oriole (Moses Rocks!). I remember seeing what I believe was a female one hanging out in her nest when I visited Denver one year and stopped by a wildlife refuge.
We don’t have humidity here, so I guess that’s a plus. And thanks for your comments about the photo. Moses spends hours shooting so the practice has definitely paid off:-)
We’ve had a bit of a break from the heat in Kansas, but it sounds like we’re going back to the 90s this weekend. I hope the books you’re reading this week get better!
Thanks Diana! Good luck if the temps go back up!
My weather is right up there with yours, in the mid-high 90s AND very humid too. It’s been miserable. I’m hoping for rain soon but no tornadoes.
I’d kill for a good rain storm right now!
I am so grateful for air conditioning right now. One of my coworkers lives in Palm Springs and I do not envy him at all. The temperatures here don’t compare to what it’s out like there right now. 121F! I hope you are enjoying your reading! A Misfortune of Lake Monsters does sound good. Have a great week, Tammy, and stay cool!
