June might kill me, folks. This is the biggest month I’ve ever had in terms of books I’ve accepted for review, and I’m not sure how things got so out of control, lol. Obviously I’m not going to be able to read all of these this month, but I’m listing them all anyway, so it will be a sort of “menu” for me to choose from. Also, I want to mention that some of my most anticipated books of the year come out in June, so I am beyond excited for most of these, which makes things even harder…
AND there are a bunch of June releases I don’t have review copies for, so this isn’t even close to everything being released this month!
I’ve also decided to bring back Summer of Horror 2024, which I started last year and had a lot of fun with, so look for my kick-off post next week!
So here we go: the June releases I hope to read this month:
I have probably already started Small Town Horror by Ronald Malfi, since it’s my #1 most anticipated book of the month. Malfi rarely disappoints, so I’ll admit I have high hopes for this.
Equally as exciting is Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman, which I’ve heard is actually very scary. I’m looking forward to being scared:-)
A new Christopher Buehlman is always a good thing, and The Daughters’ War is the prequel to the wonderful The Blacktongue Thief.
The Stardust Grail is Yume Kitasei’s sophomore book, and it’s been getting stellar reviews. I will be posting a blog tour review close to the release date of June 11.
I almost forgot I had a review copy of We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer, since I got it from Edelweiss (which I don’t use much for review copies). But I’m glad I remembered! This sounds so good.
The Ashes & the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent is the second book in her Crowns of Nyaxia series. I adored the first book, so I’m curious to read this one.
The Nature of Disappearing will be my second Kimi Cunningham Grant book, after loving These Silent Woods a few years ago. Grant writes layered thrillers with lots of emotion, so this should be good.
Another favorite author is Ashley Poston, and A Novel Love Story sounds like another magical romance.
Assassins Anonymous by Rob Hart has been getting lots of great buzz, and I always enjoy checking out his new releases.
The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Linde sounds like an amazing fantasy romance, and I can’t wait to start it:-)
Fiasco by Constance Fay is the sequel to Calamity, which was such a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to revisiting this world!
Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky is being compared to the Murderbot books, and I’m very curious to check this out. I love Tchaikovsky and just don’t read enough of his books.
My vampire fix this month will come from The Hunter’s Gambit by Ciel Pierlot, a romantasy by an author I really like a lot.
I’m curious to see how Danielle Valentine does YA, after LOVING Delicate Condition last year. Two Sides to Every Murder should be a lot of fun!
I’ve really enjoyed Tim Pratt’s books in the past, so I was excited to get a copy of The Knife and the Serpent. Sadly the Goodreads ratings so far are pretty low, but I’m going to try it and hope for the best:-)
I have heard of Bonnie Jo Stufflebeam before, but I haven’t had the chance to read her books yet. I’ve very glad to have a copy of Grim Root, her June release.
I’ve been reading some really good reviews for Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland, and it involves pirates! So this should be s fun one.
Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil by Ananda Lima sounds really good. This is a late addition to my June TBR but I’m definitely going to make time for it.
Foul Days by Genoveva Dimova is blurbed as “The Witcher meets Naomi Novik,” and I have to admit I’m intrigued!
And last but not least, Daughter of the Merciful Deep by Leslye Penelope is a historical fantasy that sounds pretty amazing.
You’re right: June is going to be a month literally filled with intriguing books. I recently received the Orbit newsletter and there are three June books I absolutely want to read – and I’m trying not to look too closely at your list because I know I might not be able to resist the lure of several of the titles you mentioned…
What to do? Oh, what to do???? 😉

I requested three books from the Orbit newsletter too! And unfortunately I think they are all June books that I forgot to include in this list!!! OMG
Oh wow good luck getting these read. Hopefully given your past experiences with a lot of the authors you’ll find a few new favourites this month. Out of what you’ve mentioned I’m most excited for The Wren In The Holly Library but I’m definitely checking out the full blurbs for some of the books that are new to me.
I’m also looking forward to We Shall Be Monsters. And read, and really enjoyed, Cautious Traveller’s Guide To The Wastelands.
I really want to read the Cautious Traveller’s Guide, but I just couldn’t fit it in. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
My reviews coming in just over a week so you won’t have to wait long to hear them. I hope you find the time to read it one day although I definitely understand hectic TBRs
What a busy month, with a lot of interesting looking books. Running Close to the Wind sounds good, and Small Town Horror. I’ve never read anything by Malfi and I like the sound of this new one.
Looking forward to your Summer of Horror posts. Have a great month of reading 😀

Thanks! Malfi is so good, I recommend Come With Me, it’s my favorite of his so far.
Yes, I think we have four or five books in common this month. I’m very excited for some of these and in fact I’ve already started the Malfi. About a third in so far – he has a way of giving me goosebumps on the back of my neck. Brrrr.
Lynn 😀
The Malfi book was very creepy…
Well Tammy, the good news is we finally have some books in common. Three of them, even! The bad news is that you’ve lost your mind. Please, please tell me you got an early start on these
I either lost my mind or lost track of what I accepted for review. I’m terrible at planning. obviously! And nope, I was trying to finish up May books so I’m currently on my second June book. Sigh.
I think it’s going to be a good summer! I can’t wait to read Assassins Anonymous. I hope you enjoy!
Me too, it’s getting really good reviews:-)
It’s a packed month with many I want to read and no more slots to put them in on the schedule.
As you can see I don’t count my review books as I’m adding them:-)
Good luck with all of the review copies! 😀 And what an awesome variety of books you have here. No books in common yet for June, but I really need to read something by Ashley Poston eventually. I’ll be waiting for your thoughts on her new book. 😉 You’ve also added The Wren in the Holly Library to my TBR, so that’s exciting! 😀 Have an amazing June, Tammy!

Thanks Aimee! Ashley Poston’s books are so good!
Yup, that sure is a bit of list there. 🙂 I don’t currently have any of these though I’ve entered giveaways from several. Outside that, though, it’s likely I won’t read any until after you have. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on them.
Hopefully I’ll find some good books to share and tempt you with:-)
Daughter of the Merciful Deep sounds amazing! I share a couple of other review books on your list. I also have a ton of library hold that will be ready in June… What to do? At least we have a lot of good options!

I swear all the publishers got together and decided to release EVERYTHING in June, lol.
June might kill me too… I’ve ended up with way more ARCs than I really planned for, including a couple of very late approvals that just came through for books coming out next week (including Service Model). I don’t know how I”m going to keep up! I do really want to read the Ashley Poston, and have a few non-ARC new releases that I can’t wait for, so… it’ll be nuts. Good luck to both of us!
I definitely won’t be able to keep up! But at least most of these are high priority. We’ll see which ones I can actually get to, lol.
The Stardust Grail and Foul Days are on my list! And Christopher Buehlman is an author I’m curious about trying! I liked Ashes and the Star-Cursed King but not as much as the first one.

That’s always the risk, the second book not being as good as the first. Now I’m curious to read it:-)
Oh my goodness that *is* a lot of books for you!! Wow! Despite that I don’t have a single one of these on my June list haha. I still have a couple of backlog ARCs. I’ve read my two June ones and just need to write up the reviews.
My TBR is out of control for sure. I guess I could have worse problems though? 🙂
So many books! Best of luck, Tammy!
I’ve just started The Hunter’s Gambit by Ceil Pierlot and I’m enjoying it a lot (although I think sexy times are coming and I’m not so sure about that!)
I’m looking forward to starting The Hunter’s Gambit, best of luck with (mild) sexy times;-)
I hope you enjoy it too!
I’m curious about Fiasco, and Service Model.
Good luck, this is a lot!

Oh my goodness! You have some marvellous reads here, Tammy. I’m also delighted to have a copy of Service Model – but so many books… Best of luck with getting through as many as you can:)). I’m still wading through a bunch of May reads!!
June is crazy packed with great books! So many to choose from and you know I’m loving the Summer of Horror focus!

Hmm, I’m so bad at planning ahead these days, but again I am so glad you have the summer of horror thing going – makes me pumped up to get to my horror books 🙂
How many interesting books!! I should be reading soon Service Model and Running Close To The Wind, or at least I hope! But you mentioned a lot of other intriguing titles!!
I’ve got A Novel Love Story too! You’ve got a lot of interesting looking books too! Hope you’re able to get to all the ones you know you really want to and that they are all as good as you hope!
