I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!
Today’s prompt is “April Showers,” but I could not find enough books with rainy covers or titles to make up a list. So because we currently have a foot of snow at my house (!!), I’m switching it up to April Storms, and I’ve found ten books—which all happen to be horror—with snowy settings and covers. Take a look:
Near the Bone by Christina Henry
These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant
A Haunting in the Arctic by C.J. Cooke
Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates
Love this list 😀
The first one that came to my mind when I saw the title was The Shining.
The Terror is a book I’ve been curious about having watched the tv show, which I really enjoyed.
Doh! I can’t believe I forgot about The Shining, lol.
These covers are so beautiful!!
Thanks Susy!
I hope the snow isn’t causing too much havoc for you. I hardly ever get any so I generally love it but I know it can cause chaos too.
I have a couple of these on my tbr. I think most of my snowy set books are thrillers though.
Luckily our snow is melting pretty fast:-)
I’m surprised by how many horror books have snowy/winter settings! Truly the most terrifying season

Snow can add a lot of stress to horror stories!
I love snowy horror. The Drift is one of my favorites and I can’t wait to read The Gathering. I see a few others ones here I’m really curious about. We are supposed to have bad storms today so I think I’d rather have your snow!
You can have it, lol.
Wow, that’s a lot of snow. But snow horror is super cool.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
I do love snow horror:-)
Ooh, good one! And it makes sense to think about April as a snowy month, given current weather! There’s a snowy horror book by Christopher Golden (Snow Blind) — I actually don’t remember much about the plot at this point, but I do remember that it scared the heck out of me!
Oh that’s a good one, I’m familiar with Snow Blind. I also completely forgot about The Shining, lol.
I love your take on the topic! I’ve read Near the Bone and it was really good. I haven’t read the others, but they all look deliciously creepy!

Thanks Haze! Near the Bone was a lot of fun:-)
There is something so desolate and scary when it comes to thrillers with snow. Makes me shiver just thinking about it and the books you have listed here.
Snow can cut you off from everything, so it’s a great device for horrors and thrillers:-)
I’ve actually read one of these (These Silent Woods), which is unusual. But my favorite of the covers is The Gathering. Just something very atmospheric (sorry, couldn’t help myself) about it.
I love that cover too:-)
Well we can have snow in April, don’t we? LOL Great choices Tammy!
Ha ha yes we can. Thanks Sophie!
I love how you twisted this week’s topic to reflect your current weather. The weather forecasters around me aren’t sure if we will get a ton of snow or rain over the next 24-48 hours. Right now, it’s looking like rain.

I really love those creepy snowy covers, especially the ones that have cottages on them. There’s just something eerie about them. Also can’t even imagine having that much snow in April. Hopefully it’ll be the last snow for you guys over there. Is this a bad time to mention that it looks like we’re getting 23° (I think that’s 73.4° F) here in Belgium this weekend? 😛

Love this topic! I can’t wait to read Dead of Winter.
You have a foot of snow? Oh my goodness! It was 80 degrees here in Arizona yesterday. I did get snowed on last week in Wales, though. Spring can be crazy for weather. I do love a snowy book setting, especially in mystery/thriller books.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Bad weather + horror = chiller.
I love that the Gathering has that fiery colouring amongst the snowy setting – it’s so apt.
Lynn 😀
Ooof I am SO done with snow and we’re getting more tonight. That’s a great looking group of books though.

Snow is just a frozen form of rain so that works. Snowy settings always make a good horror story.

I’ve read several of these. I love snowy settings. They propose their own challenges when trying to survive.

Urg – a FOOT of snow, you have my profound sympathy. I’ll stop moaning about the ceaseless rain we seem to be having this spring… What a fabulous set of covers – the snowy thriller that always sticks in my memory is Lee Childs’ ’61 Hours’ which I think is one of the best Jack Reacher stories I’ve read. Though it can’t be strictly called horror…
I’m so happy to have read all of these (well, just started The Gathering)! Not surprising, as I love snowy settings!
