What’s On My Plate – April 2024

Happy April everyone! We’re moving into the second quarter of the year already, can you believe it? I have a ton of April releases to read, after trying so hard to keep my TBR under control, lol. Clearly whatever I’m doing isn’t working. But I am excited about this list. I have already read The Gathering and I’m currently in the middle of The Redemption of Morgan Bright, so at least I’ve started to make a dent. I also want to mention that I didn’t add a TBR Jar book this month, simply because I probably won’t be able to fit it in. So I’m giving myself a break!

Here are the books I’d like to read this month:

One of my most anticipated books of April is The Redemption of Morgan Bright by Chris Panatier, which I am currently reading. And I’m loving it so far! It’s quite different from Chris’s last book, which was weird and wacky. This is much more my style, Gothic horror and a very twisty mystery. Look for a review soon!

Immortal Pleasures by V. Castro is another highly anticipated book, and one more for the 2024 vampire pile, lol. I’m excited, this will be my first book by the author, although the reviews on Goodreads right now are very mixed, so I’m curious to see where I fall.

I’m also really looking forward to Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes, which is the only science fiction on this list other than Calypso (has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a lack of new SF these days?)

I really enjoyed The Gathering by C.J. Tudor, and my review will be up this Thursday. This is my second book by the author, and she hasn’t disappointed me yet!

Oliver K. Langmead deserves much more recognition, in my opinion, he’s fabulous! And I am so excited to read Calypso, which is told in verse.

This Skin Was Once Mine by Eric LaRocca is comprised of four novellas, and I’m sure they will be tough, horrific reads, just like Eric’s other books. He is so talented but not for everyone, so I’m very curious to check these out.

On a lighter note, I can’t wait to dive into A Letter To the Luminous Deep by Sylvie Cathrall, which is a cozy fantasy romance told through letters.

Nick Medina has been on my list to try for a while, so I’m very grateful to have a copy of his latest, Indian Burial Ground. I believe this is a supernatural mystery, it sounds so good.

Bless Your Heart by Lindy Ryan is yet another vampire tale, this time with lots of humor added. This sounds like a bunch of fun!

Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell has the best title of all my April books! Hopefully it will be just as good as the title.

And I loved Night’s Edge by Liz Kerin, and I’m glad there’s a sequel, because it ended on a cliffhanger! I can’t wait to read First Light to see how the author is going to continue the story.

Finally, I agreed to read a self-published book (very rare these days), so I’m hoping I’m not disappointed. Ink Vine by Elizabeth Broadbent sounds a little out of my comfort zone, but it’s a novella so it should be easy to squeeze in this month.

And those are my April books! Let me know if we have any in common:-D

  1. This looks like it should be a good month of reading for you.
A Letter To the Luminous Deep sounds so good, and the cover of Bless Your Heart made me smile so looking forward to your thoughts on both of those.
    Have a great April 😀

I love the cover of Bless Your Heart, and also the title:-) I hope you have a great April too!

  2. Some great reads here and some we share of course. LaRocca’s books are always interesting. I read one of his ages ago and even had him as a guest on the blog before he blew up and became so popular. I read the book which was the tales from the insects POV or something. I remember feeling badly for the bug. Definitely weird reads but sometimes they work for me. Hope you have a wonderful reading April!

His writing is so good, but yes, his stories can be ultra weird and disturbing. Thanks Barb, happy reading!

  3. None of these are currently on my reading list… but I’m interested in getting to The Gathering, and I’m curious about a bunch of these, just based on the covers! Looking forward to your reviews… which typically result in my adding even more books to my TBR list 🙂

Me too. I’m a little worried with some of the reviews I’ve been seeing, but we shall see.

  4. Looks like you have a VERY full April ahead! ‘Bless Your Heart’ does look like a lot of fun, and ‘Calypso’ sounds intriguing too. I’ve mostly been reading + listening to classics and nonfiction lately, with a healthy sprinkle of comfort re-reads, but I’ve been thinking of getting back into contemporary SFF and I’m having a great time browsing through your archives and also checking out similar blogs. I don’t think I’ve tackled a new sci-fi or fantasy book since… 2016? 2017? So there’s a lot to catch up on!

There are so many new books out there, and more coming out every day, it seems like! I hope you find something good to read:-) Thanks for visiting!

  5. How many interesting titles!! I have a couple of them to read, too and I hope to get to them pretty soon! I am particularly curious to know what you would think of A Letter to the Luminous Deep, because I have read a lot of mixed things about it!

    • Tammy

I’ve seen lots of mixed reviews, so I’m going into it with a little hesitation. I’ll let you know!

  6. Good luck getting to all of these. I hope you enjoy them all too. I hadn’t heard of Morgan Bright but the cover instantly intrigued me. Hearing that it’s gothic horror with a twisty mystery has intrigued me even more, so I’ll definitely be looking into it. I’ve requested A Letter To The Luminous Deep so fingers crossed I get a copy. Either way I’ll keep an eye out for your review of it.

  7. Each time I see the cover of Ghost Station I’m drawn to it. Hoping the story does it justice and look forward to your thoughts if you get to it.

  8. You’ve made me want to pick up the Panatier book now, but I do have a few books to read before unfortunately. I enjoyed The Gathering. You’re off to a great start already – I think you can do it.
    Lynn 😀

  9. You have a feast off gripping books here – and thanks to you, I discovered Letters to a Luminous Deep and yesterday I got hold of an arc, which I’m delighted about:)). I hope your April reads are enjoyable and engrossing, Tammy.
