I’m going rogue and posting a different list this week for Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reading Girl. Today I’m sharing ten “new to me” authors I hope to read this year. And for each author, I’ve listed their 2024 release, all books on my TBR that I’d love to read. I have a few of these review copies already, and I’m hoping I’ll get more as the year progresses. I know what you’re going to say: “I can’t believe you haven’t read some of these authors!” LOL
Katherine Arden – The Warm Hands of Ghosts √ Review copy acquired – This is a February release, so I’ll be reading it very soon. I may be the last person on earth who hasn’t read Arden yet!
Nathan Ballingrud – Crypt of the Moon Spider. I have Ballingrud’s The Strange in my TBR jar this year, but I’d also love to read his upcoming Tordotcom novella.
Leigh Bardugo – The Familiar. I also have another Bardugo book in my TBR jar, Ninth House, so this might be my Year of Leigh Bardugo, lol. Let’s hope I can read at least one of them!
V. Castro – Immortal Pleasures √ Review copy acquired – 2024 might also be the Year of the Vampire, which includes this new book from Castro.
P. Djèlí Clarke – The Dead Cat Tail Assassins. I’m so sad I haven’t tried this author yet, I always hear such good things.
Mark Lawrence – The Book That Wouldn’t Burn √ Review copy acquired – I’ve never really been interested in reading Mark Lawrence’s books, to be honest, but this series seems to be different from his usual fare.
Josh Malerman – Incidents Around the House. I’m surprised I haven’t read anything by Malerman. Perhaps this will be the first!
Sangu Mandanna – A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping. I’m loving fantasy romance more and more, and I’d love to read Mandanna’s 2024 release.
Riley Sager – Middle of the Night. Another author I can’t believe I haven’t read yet!
Paul Tremblay – Horror Movie. I’m waiting on a NetGalley approval for this one, wish me luck! I own A Head Full of Ghosts, but I haven’t read it yet. Hopefully I can cross Tremblay off this list this year.
I’ve read books from a few of these authors.
I adored the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden so I’m looking forward to reading The Warm Hands of Ghosts.
I read Bardugo’s Grisha series and enjoyed that, and recently discovered Sangu Mandanna via The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, which was a lovely story, very cosy.
Riley Sager and Paul Tremblay I think I’ve read one of each and remember the Sager being an entertaining spooky read.
I’ve heard good things about P. Djèlí Clarke’s books and would like to read one at some point.
Hope you enjoy all these 😀

Thanks! I’m hoping to cross a bunch of these authors off my list this year, we shall see…
The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo is one I’m super excited to read. I’ve loved everything I’ve read so far by Leigh, especially Ninth House so I’m hoping The Familiar will be just as good.

I’ve heard so many good things already about the Familiar, can’t wait!
Riley Sager is usually a big hit with me (Home Before Dark is awesome!). Hope you enjoy him too. I’m looking forward to Katherine Arden’s new book as well.

Riley Sager’s upcoming book sounds so good, I hope we both get to read it:-)
I’ve read both V. Castro and Katherine Arden and enjoyed them both. The first book in the Mandanna series is one of my all-time faves and I can’t wait for this one! Sager is more hit than miss for me but for some reason, I still want to read more of his books. Good looking list here.

Mandanna is an author I NEED to read soon:-)
I also haven’t read anything by Arden, though I do have the first book of the Winternight trilogy on my shelf. I’d also love to read Mark Lawrence’s book, but I’d surprise myself if I read it this year. As for Sangu Mandanna…I’m behind on her book, too! I saw she has a new book coming out, but I’d like to read the other one first.
I’d love to read both of Mandanna’s books this year, although that might be a stretch for me:-)
Paul Tremblay was new to me last year (The Cabin at the End of the World), and now I absolutely want more! A Head Full of Ghosts in on my TBR, but I’m open to reading any of his books, really. I can’t believe you haven’t read Malerman! Not in a judgy way 🙂 of course, I just assumed you had! I’ve read a few by now and have really liked what I’ve read (although there was at least one that I picked up and then decided wasn’t for me at all). I’m looking forward to the Arden book! I loved her Russian trilogy and highly recommend it!
Ha ha I can’t believe I haven’t read Malerman either! In fact I think I was approved for a NetGalley book of his a few years ago but either forgot about it or didn’t have time.
I read my first book by Mark Lawrence last year (it was Prince of Fools) and I had a great time with it. The Book that Wouldn’t Burn has been praised often on the blogosphere, so you are certainly in for a great read. Looking forward to your reviews on these new discoveries 🙂

I was never interested much in Mark Lawrence until the Book that Wouldn’t Burn came out. Now I really need to try him:-)
I have seen Bardugo and Tremblay on many blogs. I hope they work for you

Me too, they certainly have a lot of fans!
I’ve loved Katherine Arden, Leigh Bardugo and Mark Lawrence. I think I might like Riley Sager but also some books might be too horror rather than thriller for me.
Sometimes I’m shocked that I haven’t read them yet!
I can’t wait to read The Warm Hands of Ghosts.

Me too, I hear it’s a tough read at times but really good.
Leigh Bardugo and Riley Sager are a couple of my all time favorites so I hope you enjoy!
I’m glad to hear that!
I’m hoping that Sangu Mandanna is a new-to-me author for 2024 as well! I like your spin on this topic—and it will be fun to look back in a year and see which of these authors you did read this year!

It will be fun to look back, hopefully I will remember this post at the end of the year and do a recap:-)
Katherine Arden is on my list too!
I cannot wait to start her new book:-)
There are several here I also hope to read, like Mark Lawrence, P. Djèlí Clarke, and Katherine Arden at a minimum (but who wants to stop at the minimum, right?).
I guess there will always be authors out there we want to read but just haven’t found the time yet. And yep, no reason to limit yourself to only three of these!
What an interesting list. I don’t think I’ve heard of any of these authors before but some of those covers are quite intriguing. I hope you are able to get to all of these this year.

Thanks for visiting, Sarah:-)
You mentioned a lot of interesting authors, and titles!! P. Djelí Clarke’s book sounds mighty intriguing (and I loved the previous works I read by this author!) and I am pretty curious about The Familiar too. I am not the biggest fan of Bardugo, but I loved her Six of Crows duology, and this new work sounds promising! I hope you’ll manage to read all of these authors!!
I’ve been hearing such good things about The Familiar, and I hope they are all true!
I have liked Katherine Arden’s middle grade but that is the only things I have read from her. Only read one Riley Sager and DNFed it…lol. Also DNFed a series from Leigh Bardugo so not much luck there and of the other authors I have never tried so hope you like them all!

I’m really looking forward to the new Paul Tremblay; I loved A Headful of Ghosts and hope you get to that one too.

I’d like to try Dead Cat Tail Assassins too. For some reason, I thought you’d tried a Bardugo book before.
I’ve read a few of these and I’m really looking forward to Arden and Sager – I hope you love the Lawrence.
Lynn 😀
I’ve read Arden’s debut series but I literally only got to it in January. The writing was beautiful though so hopefully her newest release will be just as good. Ooh I’m almost up to date with Barudgo’s books too (its nice to be almost caught up for once) and am very excited about The Familiar. You’re not alone with Riley Sager though, every year I seem to add a new book by him to my TBR then fail to read it.
I hope that you enjoy all of these when you get to them.
