I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!
Every year I make it a point to read books by authors I “should have” already read, and last year I managed to read more than ten. These aren’t debut authors, but authors who have already published at least two books. I’m listing them in alphabetical order by author’s last name, and I’m listing the book I read, as well as another of the author’s books I want to read:
Kelly Barnhill:
Read: The Crane Husband | Want to read: When Women Were Dragons
Travis Baldree:
Read: Bookshops & Bonedust | Want to read: Legends & Lattes
Nat Cassidy:
Read: Nestlings | Want to read: Mary
Philip Fracassi:
Read: Boys in the Valley | Want to read: A Child Alone With Strangers
Rachel Hawkins:
Read: The Villa | Want to read: The Wife Upstairs
Richard Kadrey:
Read: The Pale House Devil | Want to read: Sandman Slim
Jennifer McMahon:
Read: My Darling Girl | Want to read: The Children On the Hill
Hailey Piper:
Read: Cruel Angels Past Sundown | Want to read: A Light Most Hateful
C.J. Tudor:
Read: The Drift | Want to read: The Gathering
Danielle Valentine:
Read: Delicate Condition | Want to read: Two Sides to Every Murder

I haven’t read any of these authors but that only means I still have a lot of them to discover! 😀

SA Crosby is a good one. Although I didn’t like the book I read by him…
I recently read Boys in the Valley and it was a surprisingly engrossing read from an author I never read before 🙂

That was my first book of his too. I’m hoping to read at least one of his other books this year.
I absolutely loved The Drift as well as Children on the Hill. The Wife Upstairs falls into the category of Hawkins books which didn’t work well for me but you enjoyed The Heiress more than me so I suspect you will like that one as well. Always fun to discover new authors.
You’re not the only one who didn’t like The Wife Upstairs. So who knows, as busy as I am I probably won’t get to it any time soon:-)
Nice!
I thought I had read some Hawkins and Tudor, but apparently not actually.

Maybe you can try them this year, both are really good:-)
We have Travis Baldree in common on our lists! I want to read something by Rachel Hawkins in the coming year, after seeing so many great reviews. I picked up a copy of When Women Were Dragons but haven’t read it yet, so maybe she’ll end up being one of my 2024 new-to- me authors!
Definitely read The Heiress if you have a chance:-)
Great list! I’ve read one of Kelly Barnhill’s books before, but it was a middle grade and I haven’t tried her adult work yet. I’m hoping to read When Women Were Dragons, though! That sounds really neat.

I agree, I’ve heard so many great things about it:-)
Baldree was on my list too! I love that you make it a point to seek out specific authors each year, and it seems like you do well with following through!
Here’s my post for this week!

I have a long list of authors I can’t believe I haven’t read yet, so I do try to cross them off that list!
Travis Baldree has just been delightful.
Agreed!
That’s an interesting array of authors!
Ha ha it really is!
Kelly Barnhill was a new-to-me author last year as well. I listened to the audiobook of When Women Were Dragons and loved it! Travis Baldree is on my list of new authors to try and get to 2024, I love the sound of his cozy fantasies!
I can’t wait to read When Women Were Dragons:-)
Rachel Hawkins is someone I’ve recently discovered too!

She’s awesome:-)
I want to try Baldree. Glad you enjoyed their books!
I hope you get the chance, they are fun!
Baldree and McMahon are on mine, as well. Barnhill will be one day, perhaps this year. I have a couple of hers I’ve been meaning to try. And I still love that cover of The Gathering, so I may have to try that one, too. 🙂
I’m excited to start The Gathering, it will be my second C.J. Tudor book.
Baldree made my list as well and is the only author from your list that I’ve heard of. Some of these covers are gorgeous and that’s often how I pick up books to read, so I’ll have to check some of these out.

Thanks Sarah, I’m the same, I’m often drawn in by a good cover:-)
I’m a big fan of Jennifer McMahon, and The Children on the Hill is on my TBR stack. Rachel Hawkins is a new-to-me author for 2024! Looking forward to reading more of her books.

LOVE Rachel Hawkins, I know she just released a book but I’m already craving her next one!
I forgot to put Travis Baldree on my list but I definitely enjoyed both of his books last year.

I’m curious to see if he’s going to write more books in that series:-)
I really want to read Legends & Lattes, I’m still in the mood for cosy books.
I’ve read one book by C. J. Tudor and think I’ll probably try The Gathering at some point.
Great list 😀

Thanks! I know what you mean, winter seems to be a great time for cozy reads.
I really like McMahon’s books, although some of them are SUPER creepy for a wimp like me 🙂 Glad you discovered so many new-to-you authors in 2023.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Thanks Susan! I definitely don’t mind the creepy ones:-)
Legends & Lattes is sooooo good! I hope you’ll read it!!
I definitely will:-)
I discovered Travis Baldree last year, too, and boy am I glad I did! 😀 So worth it. I absolutely LOVE the cover for Nestlings. Nat Cassidy seems like an author I need to discover this year. 😉

I’ve not yet read any of Barnhill’s adult novels but she is one of my favourite middle grade authors! IIRC WHEN WOMEN WERE DRAGONS is on my TBR. A new to me author from 2023 who I will definitely be reading more from is T. Kingfisher.

I love the way you used a book that you read and one that you want tor read.
I’m definitely looking forward to a few of these.
