Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
My blog was down this past week for almost an entire day, so I’m thinking about switching from Bluehost to WordPress hosting. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know, especially if you’re using WordPress. Anyway, I’m so done with Bluehost!
In happier news, did you know Sci Fi Month is coming in November? It’s such a fun month, and I’m trying to come up with a reading list so I’m ready. This year there are four hosts: imyril @ There’s Always Room for One More, Mayri @ BookForager, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books and Lisa @ Dear Geek Place. Click the banner below to find out more about the event! And stay tuned for my kick-off post on November 1st.
Upcoming reads & reviews:
So far my October reading isn’t going that well. I have way too many books to choose from and it’s having the opposite effect: I feel like a deer in headlights, unable to figure out what to read next! This is something I’m going to work harder at next year, toning down my monthly TBRs. I think I say that every year about this time, lol. Which may be the reason I’ve decided to DNF Edenville. I hated the first chapter, not a good way to start. It’s silly, gross-out horror more suited for the middle grade crowd, with characters that are already rubbing me the wrong way. Because there are so many other October books I’d rather read, I’m going to officially call this a DNF. Let me know if you’ve read it, should I keep going? So then I went back to Dreambound, which I started a couple of weeks ago. I’m loving this so far, and I’ll have a review up this week. After that, it’s anyone’s guess, but perhaps I’ll dive into The Horror at Pleasant Brook or Bloom.
Other posts this week:
After a busy week last week, I’m taking it easy, trying to post a couple of reviews and my usual Future Fiction on Wednesday.
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
Starling House by Alix E. Harrow – Review 4/5 stars
Cover Reveal: Evocation by S.T. Gibson
Most Anticipated Books of 2023 – Fourth Quarter
The Pale House Devil by Richard Kadrey – Review 4/5 stars
What’s On My Plate – October 2023
I am excited for Sci-fi November but is is also the time in which a reading slump awaits. I tried to take part in it every year, and I rarely go beyond posting a TBR for it before falling in a bad slump so… Who knows?!?
And since there are so many good books out there, I think you did well DNFing that one. If it doesn’t work for you, that’s okay!!
Maybe this year will be different and you won’t have a slump:-)
Exhausted puppies don’t bite, do they? ;D
I’ve just read a couple of reviews for Edenville, and it sounds problematic…

Ha ha well they don’t bite while they’re sleeping;-) I just didn’t like the writing style or the characters right off the bat, so I figured why force myself to read it?
I’m looking forward to SciFi Month as well, and already stacking up on genre books – which is no chore at all 😉

Exactly, it’s one of those pleasant chores:-)
Sometimes you just have to DNF and move on. I say the same thing about this time of the year about the books I am going to grab from Netgalley and then I always get behind…lol.
Have a great day and happy reading!

Thanks Stormi, you too!
I was glad to see your blog back up after not getting through that day. That wasn’t fun for you, I’m sure.
Kudos to you being able to DNF Edenville. I’m still not very good at that, but sometimes it does seem worth it. There are so many other options that might be much more enjoyable, it’s just not worth the time and effort to slog through something.
I just have so much to read this month, I didn’t even hesitate to DNF it. And I was sad because I’ve read some good reviews.
I totally feel you on it being difficult to pick something to read this month. October has so many books coming out, it seems. I remember thinking this last year, but for August rather than October. There are so many books I wanted to request for October, but it would’ve meant a very deep NG hole, lol. Good luck on your reading this week!
Thanks Celeste! I’m trying not to stress and just read what looks good. Hopefully that will work:-)
Scifi! I love it and don’t read it often enough. Nothing better than an exhausted puppy!
I’m hosted at NoseGraze with the Ultimate Book Blogger which works for me because I don’t have to know anything much about WordPress.

I know NoseGraze is pretty popular with book bloggers. She is more expensive than other options, but maybe it’s worth it.
I host at NoseGraze, which is WordPress basically, and I like how it takes care of it all for me! Exhausted puppies are the best because you know they’ve had a good day and then you can get some stuff done! You’ve got some great books to read too. Like you I keep telling myself I’m going to cut back on review books next year, but I’m already working on my 2024 blog calendar, so it’s like I don’t pay any attention to what I’ve decided, lol. Have a good week!

I checked out NoseGraze and she’s pretty expensive. I need to make a decision though!
Cute puppy picture!! Sorry to hear about your blog woes. I’m on WordPress, and it’s been fine for all my needs, but I know people who want more bells & whistles end up doing some version of self-hosting. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Dreambound once you finish!
Thanks! I loved Dreambound!
I am sorry your blog was down! It happened to me more than two years ago and that decided me to switch host too!
It’s so frustrating, I need to figure out what to do now…
You throw a crave ball. That is not a picture of a bird. That a cute puppy.
Have a great week.

Ha ha I’m keeping you on your toes:-)
I’m a week into Oct. and haven’t read anythnig scary yet! And that’s frustrating about the blog being down. Glad to see sciFi Month coming. I always enjoy that, and the graphic is neat this year/

Hey you still have a few weeks left! I really like this year’s graphic for Sci Fi Month too:-)
Love the puppy pic. October is crazy packed with great releases. I’m extending spooky reading to the week before Thanksgiving. Hope it helps me get more read. Of course cramming It in hasn’t helped.
That’s a great idea, I may do the same. I’m definitely going to have spill over October books into November.
Exhausted puppy = non-biting puppy, hopefully?! So cute though.
I saw another cover version of the book you DNFed and even that looked gross to me.
I get that feeling too sometimes, so many books that I don’t have a clue what to pick up next. It’s not good. I’ve tried to cut down the amount on my TBR list a bit but it’s still so many books 😀

True! He doesn’t bite when he’s sleeping:-) It’s so hard to cut my TBR, I’m right there with you:-)
With so many books to read in October, I don’t blame you for Dnfing Edenville! Frankly I should have done the same, though at least I’ll have fun savaging it in my review!
I’m sad because I was so excited about Edenville. Oh well…
I wondered what was going on with your blog. Glad it’s resolved for now but hope you find a hosting provider that works better for you.
Yes, I need to get on it. I just dread going through a switch…
I’m looking forward to SciFiMonth too! 🙂
It’s going to be here before we know it, lol.
Yes, I’ve also put Edenville down for now. It’s just not working for me atm.
Lovely puppy picture.
Lynn 😀
Glad it’s not just me!
