Over-Booked [183] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

Time for another book haul post. It’s been a month since my last Over-Booked, and review copies seem to be slowing down a bit, which is a good thing. I need to catch up! Here are the books that I received for review:

Review books in the mail:

Big thanks to Tor for the first three books.

The Dead Take the A Train by Cassandra Khaw & Richard Kadrey. I’ve read solo books by both authors, so I feel like this collab is going to be a lot of fun! This book is already out so I’m behind, but I hope to read it this month.

I’m very happy to have this lovely finished hardcover of Starling House by Alix E. Harrow. I just reviewed it and really enjoyed it!

And another October release arrived, a finished copy of Knock Knock, Open Wide by Neil Sharpson. I don’t know much about this, but I think it will be perfect for October:-)

With thanks to Entangled Amara for a copy of Filthy Rich Vampire by Geneva Lee. I couldn’t resist this paranormal romance. I also hope to squeeze this in this month.

Big hugs to Sharon Lynn Fisher for an ARC of her upcoming witchy book, Salt & Broom. I’ll be reading this later in the Fall, so stay tuned!

And from Harper Voyager, I’m excited to dive into The Queen of Days by Greta Kelly. This is a fantasy with a family of thieves, and it sounds really good:-)

Huge thanks to Angry Robot for a trio of review copies:-D First, the reissue of Jeff Noon’s Vurt, a beloved book that I read many years ago and which turned me into a Jeff Noon fan. I’m not sure if I can fit it in this month, but I’m definitely going to do a reread at some point.

Thirteen Ways to Kill Lulabelle Rock by Maud Woolf sounds like a bunch of fun! This doesn’t come out until January, but look for a review later this year.

I’m thrilled to have a finished paperback of Mothtown by Caroline Hardaker. Angry Robot was kind enough to include my blurb, and the final illustrations are gorgeous!

Finally, I received an ARC of Deep Freeze by Michael C. Grumley from Forge Books. This science fiction thriller is a January release, and it sounds like fun.

Digital books for review:

The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden is a 2024 release, so I won’t be reading it right away, but I really want to. It sounds simply amazing.

I was invited to read Island Witch by Amanda Jayatissa, and I immediately accepted. I love the cover and the story sounds really good.

A Light Most Hateful by Hailey Piper comes out this month, so I hope I can squeeze it in. The publisher’s blurb says “Bunny meets Stranger Things,” and I am so intrigued!

Big thanks to Del Rey, Berkley and Titan!

Are you planning to read any of these books?

  1. Nice haul! I do want to read Starling House, although I’m so overloaded at the moment that I’ll probably hold off for a while. I just an ARC of the Katherine Arden book too — so excited! Hope you enjoy all these!

  2. Wow, this haul is STACKED!! I haven’t heard of FILTHY RICH VAMPIRE, and though I don’t read much contemporary fantasy (including paranormal), this does pique my interest. I hope you like it! As for the Katherine Arden book…yea, I still need to read her Bear and the Nightingale trilogy. Hehe.
