Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
As promised, I have a puppy photo for you today, although to be honest, he doesn’t really look like a puppy here, he looks so serious! Badger is doing great, although I’m still trying to adjust to my new routine. My only complaint is that he’s in that puppy biting stage, and I have spilled some blood in these past few weeks, lol. If anyone has any tricks for stopping the biting, I’d love to hear them! The rescue place we adopted him from thinks he’s part cattle dog, which means he’ll probably be bigger than we thought. What do you think he looks like?
Upcoming reads & reviews:
It’s October, so that means diving into my very big October TBR, and catching up with some September books. This week I’ll be reviewing The Pale House Devil and probably Starling House. I’ve also started Dreambound and love it so far! After that, it’s just a matter of choosing an October 3rd release (why publishers, why?) out of the many I have on my plate, and Edenville is calling to me.
Other posts this week:
A new month means it’s going to be busy on the blog this week. Of course I’ll be sharing my October books in What’s On My Plate; Tuesday is my Most Anticipated Books of 2023 – Fourth Quarter, so check out what I’m excited to read for the rest of the year; Wednesday I’m doubling up posts, first with the cover reveal for Evocation by S.T. Gibson (it’s stunning!) and I’ll feature three new books on Future Fiction as well; and Saturday, look for my latest book haul on Over-Booked.
In case you missed:
My posts from last week:
September 2023 Reading Wrap-Up
Stars Like Acid by Marissa Lupe – Review 2.5/5 stars
Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig – Review 4.5/5 stars
LOL, he does look serious! But he’s a cutie. If only he stopped biting, right? 😉
I didn’t notice there were so many October 3rd releases. I did read, though, that October is one of the busiest months in the publishing world…

We just need to get past the biting stage, hopefully we’ll survive!. And yep, I totally agree with that, October has got to be the busiest publishing month of the year:-)
Badger is so cute! Can’t wait to see some of those October books you have planned. 🙂
Have a great week and happy reading!

Thanks Stormi! Have a good week:-)
Your puppy is adorable!
Thanks Kristi!
Badger looks absolutely gorgeous! Could there be a bit of German Shepherd in there?? The face shape and those pricked ears reminds me of the breed. I hope he gets past the biting phase soon – their teeth are so sharp at that age. Have a great week, preferably with less blood shed…
Thanks Sarah! Yes, we have had other people tell us there is shepherd in him. We plan on doing a DNA test at some point.
Oh yeah, the biting stage! My brother’s new puppy is in that too. I’ve got some bite marks from last time I visited, and I’m sure I’ll get some more when I go over for dinner tonight. Badger is so cute though! Hope you have a good week!

Thanks Lisa! I hope you have a good week too:-)
OMG Badger is so adorable and yes, I remember the puppy biting stage as well. Apollo and even Booker T were horrible. Try finding a small kids water gun and squirt when then bite. It takes some time carting it around all the time, but it did seem to deter them. Of course it may be why both always wanted to drink out of squirt guns and water bottles moving forward. Honestly, when I saw the pic, the first thing I thought of was Anubis. Badger is so regal looking there! Have a great reading month!
Thanks Barb! I like the water gun idea, although he is already “biting” the water from the hose, so he might think we’re playing, lol.
I always found a deeper voiced (high pitch gets them more excited ) “no” “or “easy” and giving them a toy to chew on helped curb some of the mouthiness till they grow out of it.
Great idea, thanks Vikki:-)
I love the Badger photos – keep them coming! He does look like he might get bigger. We never choose male dogs and haven’t had any biters so I have no help for you. I’m excited to see your choices for the rest of the year. But I am packed. There are a LOT of great books releasing the next 2 months and even in December.
Thanks Anne! Yes, the next few months are so packed with the new books, it’s impossible to read everything.
Badger is so cute! As far as biting goes, I used to push with my finger on my dog’s palate when he had my fingers in his maw or I closed his jaw with my fingers (softly but firmy) and told him No. Have a great week!
That’s a great idea, thanks Sophie:-)
Hi Badger! He looks like he’s in charge already. 🙂 I need to get my hands on Starling House (although, really, my October reading plate is already overflowing!). I’m so glad you’re enjoying Dreambound. Hope you have a great week!
Ha ha he is in charge! Thanks Lisa, you too:-)
Beautiful pup!
Thank you!
Cute puppy! I remember puppy stage . Definitely not always fun ha but hopefully it goes quickly. I like Barb’s idea of a squirt gun. I never thought of that but I know it works wonders with cats lol.

I think he would try to bit the water gun, lol.
Badger is adorable! And puppies teeth are like shark teeth!!! When we took Ade in they told us to scream each time he bited us to show him that it hurts (even when it doesn’t). We were lucky that his biting phase didn’t last long, because the molossian (mastiff and the like) are not really bity (usually) as other dogs.
We’re hoping his biting phase will be short:-)
Badger is so cute. I didn’t know puppies had a biting stage but I hope it doesn’t last too long, it sounds quite painful!
Hope you have a great week 😀

I hope it doesn’t last long either:-)
Badger is so lovely and his coat his beautiful. The biting stage isn’t nice but all you can really do is be firm with him (which isn’t always easy with a pup) and give him something to chew other than you! He makes me think of an Egyptian statue with those ears – my dogs have ears like that, Podengos, they are very similar to the Pharaoh hound.
You’ve got some good books to look forward to.
Can’t wait to read your thoughts on some of these. I’m really looking forward to picking up the Alix Harrow book.

Badger has a lot of cat qualities, lol, and he does remind me of an Egyptian statue:-)
Badger is just the cutest. He’s probably thinking about how he wishes he were biting you right now, haha. I’ve found sometimes having a toy or some sort of chew nearby to put in their mouths instead of your body can sometimes help deter when they go for the bites, but it definitely depends on the dog if that helps. Those puppy teeth are just razor sharp. I wonder if he could have some Shepherd in him due to size of the ears and paws. But cattle dogs could also have those ears (or even kelpie)–whatever his mix is, it’s perfect!
I’m excited to hear your thoughts on Starling House and Dreambound! Hope you have a great week and can get through the rest of the biting stage without much more bloodshed.
We’ve been told he probably has shepherd in him too, which makes me a little nervous, lol. We are trying that trick with handling him something else to chew, we just have to be ready!
Badger is adorable!!!!!
Thank you!
Your puppy is absolutely adorable!
Thanks Suzanne!
