Buffy’s Corner 9/17/23 – New puppy!

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

My hubby and I just adopted a rescue puppy, and it was sort of spur of the moment. We lost my beloved Otis a few months ago:-( And I wasn’t sure I was ready to get a new dog. But we contacted a rescue organization and ended up with this little black ball of energy. His name is Badger, and he was found in the desert in a hole under a shipping container. He’s all puppy but super sweet and friendly! Here’s a photo (in lieu of a bird/landscape photo at the end):

A black puppy runs with a pine cone in his mouth.
Badger, 12 weeks with pine cone.

Upcoming reads & reviews:

So the new puppy is eating into my reading/blogging time a bit, so I’m behind with my September books. But I did finish The Graveyard Shift and I’m almost finished with What Kind of Mother, so look for reviews of both this week. I’m also reading Black River Orchard, and I’m happy to finally be reading Wendig’s new book! After that I’ll be diving into Stars Like Acid.

Other posts this week:

With puppy duty, I’m not planning a lot of posts this week. Future Fiction will be on Wednesday as usual, and I’ll try to do a Friday Face-Off as well.

In case you missed:

My posts from last week:

Starter Villain by John Scalzi – Review 4/5 stars

  1. BADGER!!! OMG, I am a little bit in love. And 12 weeks old – so adorable. He’s found his best life right now and he’ll be a fantastic companion.
We definitely need progress reports on your new pack member.
Happy reading (when you’re not being badgered).
    Lynn 😀

  2. Don’t blame you for putting the books down and ensuring Badger has plenty of attention and cuddles – he looks utterly adorable. But I recall only too well what hard work puppies are! Have a lovely, busy week, Tammy:)).

Thanks Lisa! It’s a treat and also he’s a bit of a terror at certain times of the day, but that’s part of puppyhood:-)

  3. Exciting! I want to know all about Badger. What breed is he and how big is he/ will he get? What are his favorite activities? Lulu only fetched sticks maybe 2 times then decided it was stupid. If we had the stick and wanted it we shouldn’t throw it. If she wanted it, she wasn’t going to bring it to us. lol She loves going for walks and rolling in the grass. She has her toys she carries around the house and sometimes will bring those to us as a gift.

We’re not sure of his breed, but we think maybe he has cattle dog in him. We’re hoping he only gets to be about 30 lbs. We are planning on doing a DNA test at some point.

My deepest heartfelt condolences on Otis, I’m so sorry. I’m so glad you guys adopted Badger, they just steal your heart. Please make sure to update us and pictures would be great too if your able. Dogs are the most incredible creatures. Food, love and playing and they’re set, we could learn alot from them. Hugs and love

  5. Glad to hear Badger has a great new home, and that you have a new member of the family. Can’t think of a better reason for fewer blog posts in a week, right? 🙂

  6. Congrats on getting a new puppy! Also sorry to hear about the loss of Otis, if you had mentioned it on your blog I must have been away because I didn’t know! Saying good bye to a dog can be so hard. I still miss Strider, who passed a year ago, and we also got another dog after a few months after when I didn’t know if I was going to be ready. But everything worked out, and it’s nice having a young pup around, though yes they can be a handful! He’s almost 1 now and still very rambunctious.

  7. Badger is the absolute CUTEST! Spur of the moment puppies are a lot of work but sometimes exactly what we need in our lives. 🙂 I can’t get over how adorable he is with that pine cone, haha.
I’m really excited to see your reviews this week, especially What Kind of Mother and Black River Orchard! Good luck with puppy duty this week, I hope you’re having tons of fun. I will be looking forward to seeing more of Badger, too, lol! 🙂
