Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
I wasn’t planning on doing a book haul today, but I seem to have acquired enough books in the past two weeks to put one together, so here we are!
Review books in the mail:
Starting off with a chonk of a book, Sons of Darkness by Gourav Mohanty, with thanks to Kaye Publicity and Head of Zeus. This looks like an epic fantasy that leans towards grimdark. This comes out in January, and I’m going to have to start it early since it’s pretty long.
Huge thanks to Orbit for a copy of The Fractured Dark by Megan E. O’Keefe, book two in The Devoured Worlds series. I know what you’re thinking: I haven’t read and reviewed The Blighted Stars yet. Very true, but I’m planning on reading it this month:-)
Another big thanks to Orbit for These Burning Stars by Bethany Jacobs. This is a debut, the first book in a new space opera series, and it really sounds good!
With thanks to Ace for this big, beautiful copy of The Olympian Affair by Jim Butcher, the second book in his Cinder Spires series. It’s been eight years since The Aeronaut’s Windlass came out, and I’m sure my memory is rusty. Nonetheless, I’m going to dive into this soon.
Big thanks to Tor for a finished copy of Starter Villain by John Scalzi. I just finished this and it was really good! Look for my review next week.
Also from Tor, I was thrilled to receive a finished copy of Schrader’s Chord by Scott Leeds, which I loved:-)
And from Tordotcom, I’m very excited to have an ARC of Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire, book #9 in her Wayward Children series. Book #9, that’s crazy! And definitely the longest series I’ve kept up with.
Finally, big thanks to Scout Press for a copy of My Darling Girl by Jennifer McMahon. I’ve never read this author before, and I’m looking forward to checking her out.
Digital review books:
Just two new digital review copies today. First, Diavola by Jennifer Thorne is one I’m really excited about. I really enjoyed Thorne’s Lute last year, and I can’t wait to read her next book. Thank you Tor Nightfire!
And with thanks to Laurence MacNaughton, I’m really looking forward to his upcoming paranormal romance, Her Second Chance Shifter. This looks like a bunch of fun!
Based on that cover alone I need to know about Starter Villain so looking forward to your review for that 😀
It was really fun, I’m glad I read it:-)
I can’t wait to see your review on Starter Villain!
It was really good!
I do want to start that McGuire series, I hear so many things, and those dinosaurs on the cover of that one don’t hurt!

I’m so curious about the dinosaurs!
I am reading the Olympian Affair. These Burning Stars looks like I might like it too. I’ll look forward to your thoughts.

I can’t wait to hear what you think about The Olympian Affair:-)
I hope to read Schrader’s Chord at some point because your review made me really excited for it. It sounded like a fantastic read!
It was so good! Especially if you love music:-)
Can’t wait to read Starter Villain! And I’ll definitely be reading the new Wayward Children book too. I have no idea how you keep up with all these books each week!
It’s hard, luckily this isn’t just one week’s haul:-)
A bunch of these are on my TBR – top priorities right now being Schrader’s Chord and Starter Villain, so I’m glad you enjoyed both! What a great haul!

Thanks Stormi!
I definitely have too many unfinished series from Orbit, I wanted to check out The Fractured Dark as well but haven’t read the first book yet. Unlike you though I doubt I’ll be able to catch up anytime soon!
I’ve been hearing so many good things about the series, but I’m going to have to bump something to read The Blighted Stars.
Wow – a great book stack! Hope they are all good reads. Have a terrific week.

Thanks Terrie! You too.
I can’t wait to get my hands on The Fractured Dark: the first book in the series was a huge hit with me and I’m eager to see how the story moves forward. I hope you will be able to start the series soon, because I’m more than certain you will enjoy it very much 🙂
I remember how much you loved the first book:-) I hope to start it soon!
Wow you got some interesting reads there!
They do look good:-)
That Diavola cover is creepy as can be! Enjoy your new books and can’t wait to check out your review for the John Scalzi book!
Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature) recently posted…Book Blitz with Giveaway: Beer Fest (European City Breaks Series) by Lilo Moore
Thanks Lisa! And yep, that cover is super creepy.
In December I read The Children on the Hill by Jennifer McMahon and absolutely loved it, so I’d certainly be willing to try My Darling Girl.
That’s great to hear, now I’m even more excited to read My Darling Girl:-)
I always love seeing your book haul posts and drooling over all the lovely upcoming books you get! I’m super excited for Seanan McGuire’s newest Wayward Children book, and I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on Starter Villain! It sounds like something I’ll love. Hope you enjoy all these!
I think you’d love Starter Villain, it’s super funny:-)
Great haul! I’m interested in the Megan O’Keefe books…but, as I think I’ve mentioned before (?), I’m being picky about what series I start these days. Maybe I can read it during SciFi month in November. ^_^
I know, starting a new series is a commitment:-)
That Starter Villain cover is just so funny.
Happy reading.
Lynn 😀
It’s very funny, and the story matches it:-)
How many amazing books!! I hope you’ll love every one of them!!
I got an e arc of the MgGuire book. Im really excited about it but need to get to some of the inbetween books first that I missed. Just two but I think it is better to have read them before this one.
