Over-Booked [182] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

I wasn’t planning on doing a book haul today, but I seem to have acquired enough books in the past two weeks to put one together, so here we are!

Review books in the mail:

Starting off with a chonk of a book, Sons of Darkness by Gourav Mohanty, with thanks to Kaye Publicity and Head of Zeus. This looks like an epic fantasy that leans towards grimdark. This comes out in January, and I’m going to have to start it early since it’s pretty long.

Huge thanks to Orbit for a copy of The Fractured Dark by Megan E. O’Keefe, book two in The Devoured Worlds series. I know what you’re thinking: I haven’t read and reviewed The Blighted Stars yet. Very true, but I’m planning on reading it this month:-)

Another big thanks to Orbit for These Burning Stars by Bethany Jacobs. This is a debut, the first book in a new space opera series, and it really sounds good!

With thanks to Ace for this big, beautiful copy of The Olympian Affair by Jim Butcher, the second book in his Cinder Spires series. It’s been eight years since The Aeronaut’s Windlass came out, and I’m sure my memory is rusty. Nonetheless, I’m going to dive into this soon.

Big thanks to Tor for a finished copy of Starter Villain by John Scalzi. I just finished this and it was really good! Look for my review next week.

Also from Tor, I was thrilled to receive a finished copy of Schrader’s Chord by Scott Leeds, which I loved:-)

And from Tordotcom, I’m very excited to have an ARC of Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire, book #9 in her Wayward Children series. Book #9, that’s crazy! And definitely the longest series I’ve kept up with.

Finally, big thanks to Scout Press for a copy of My Darling Girl by Jennifer McMahon. I’ve never read this author before, and I’m looking forward to checking her out.

Digital review books:

Just two new digital review copies today. First, Diavola by Jennifer Thorne is one I’m really excited about. I really enjoyed Thorne’s Lute last year, and I can’t wait to read her next book. Thank you Tor Nightfire!

And with thanks to Laurence MacNaughton, I’m really looking forward to his upcoming paranormal romance, Her Second Chance Shifter. This looks like a bunch of fun!

Are you planning to read any of these books?

  1. Stephanie @ Bookfever

I hope to read Schrader’s Chord at some point because your review made me really excited for it. It sounded like a fantastic read!

  2. I definitely have too many unfinished series from Orbit, I wanted to check out The Fractured Dark as well but haven’t read the first book yet. Unlike you though I doubt I’ll be able to catch up anytime soon!

I’ve been hearing so many good things about the series, but I’m going to have to bump something to read The Blighted Stars.

  3. I can’t wait to get my hands on The Fractured Dark: the first book in the series was a huge hit with me and I’m eager to see how the story moves forward. I hope you will be able to start the series soon, because I’m more than certain you will enjoy it very much 🙂

  4. In December I read The Children on the Hill by Jennifer McMahon and absolutely loved it, so I’d certainly be willing to try My Darling Girl.

  5. I always love seeing your book haul posts and drooling over all the lovely upcoming books you get! I’m super excited for Seanan McGuire’s newest Wayward Children book, and I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on Starter Villain! It sounds like something I’ll love. Hope you enjoy all these!
