Buffy’s Corner 8/20/23 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Anyone else in California? For the first time in over 80 years, a hurricane is projected to make landfall in California, Hurricane Hilary. We’ll see how strong it actually is once it gets to us, but everyone is getting ready.  I’m near the big part of the “bat” at the top. I’m mostly worried about my new garden being destroyed. If you’re in the zone too, stay safe!

Upcoming reads & reviews:

This week I’ll be reviewing Mister Magic and Whalefall. Mister Magic was super weird, and I’m still not sure how I feel about it, lol. Whalefall is amazing so far! I still have a little to go but I’m in awe of Daniel Kraus. After that I’m hoping to read two lighter, fun books: My Roommate is a Vampire and Assistant to the Villain.

Other posts this week:

For Top Ten Tuesday’s Genre Freebie, I have something fun planned, so stop by! Wednesday I have three new covers/books to share on Future Fiction, and Saturday I’ll probably share my most recent book haul.

In case you missed:

My posts from last week:

  1. I hope you don’t experience a lot of flooding from Huricane Hilary!! Stay safe out there.

I pre-ordered ASSISTANT TO THE VILLAIN because the premise looked less serious than my usual reads, so it’ll be a nice change. As much as I’d like to read something “lighter” or funnier after I finish HE WHO DROWNED THE WORLD, I have to move to another ARC (THE PHOENIX KING).

Our house is on a slope so the water just goes down the hill and misses us, which is good when there’s a lot of rain. Thanks Celeste!

  2. I hope you can avoid the worst of the hurricane, since you’re in the rear, so to speak. Curious about your thoughts on Mister Magic, which I hope to be able to read soon!

  3. This hurricane thing is crazy! I hope you stay safe and don’t have much damage. I finished Mister Magic last night, and I kind of feel like you, not quite sure how or what I think of it. I just read a review of Whalefall and it sounds interesting! I also want to read My Boyfriend is a Vampire, but not sure when I’ll get to it. Hope you have a good, fingers crossed safe, week!

  4. I look forward to reading your thoughts on both Mister Magic and Whalefall this week, and I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying Whalefall so far. Stay safe out there, Tammy!

  5. Urg! Best of luck and I hope that Hurrican Hilary avoids you! I love the sound of My Roommate is a Vampire – such a US dynamic as here in the UK, students don’t share rooms with anyone else when at uni. And Whalefall looks intriguing, if a bit grim:). Have a good week Tammy – and I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow and keeping my fingers crossed.

That’s so interesting about roommates. In the US it’s rare to have your own room in college:-) Have a great week Sarah!

You too! We’ve been pounded with heavy rain since about 5:00 this morning and it’s supposed to rain all night. Perfect excuse to lie around and read:-)

Whalefall was AMAZING. And so far Hilary is just a bunch of heavy rain:-) Hope you have a great week too!

It does make you think about climate change for sure! We ended up getting a ton of rain, but no wind, so that was good.

    • Tammy

We are fine, we’re lucky the way our house is positioned the water just goes by on either side.

    • Tammy

Thanks Kimberly! We are fine, although our main road out of town is flooded so you can’t get through very easily.

  6. Waving at you from the #818!! We had rain and felt the Ojai earthquake, but that was about it for us. Hope your garden survived!
