The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
I checked to see when my last Friday Face-Off post was, and it was back in April! I guess I took a long break, but I’ve been inspired to start up again since Lynn is back. This week I’ve chosen a recent read, Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine. I just reviewed this yesterday, and I loved it! There are two covers, so let me know in the comments which one you like best:
Sourcebooks Landmark 2023. This is the edition I have, and I like the idea of a flower on the cover, which says “delicate” to me. I’m not sure how I feel about the neon green title font, though. It sort of stands out too much in my opinion.
Harper Collins 2023. I believe this is the UK edition but I’m not sure. I actually like this cover much more than the first one. The woman with the typical pregnant pose—her hand over her baby bump—works really well, because this is a harrowing story about pregnancy. And the overall dark cover with red font gives it the perfect horror vibe.
UK cover for me, although I like the flower on the other edition I don’t like the green title print.
I really like the flower too, and I wish the green were a different color.
If the first one had the same red for the title I think it would be my favorite of the two.
That’s a good point!
Given what you posted in your review, I have to say the UK version does seem to fit better. I’d choose it!
I might have to track down a copy of the UK edition, I love it:-)
Second cover definitely seems to fit better

I like both of them.

Me too, for different reasons.
So I am with you in that the second cover absolutely fits the story better, but I like bright things and shiny things and therefore I prefer the first cover hah. Also Second Girl has a very veiny hand and that distracts me

LOL I didn’t notice her hand!
Yeah, I like your favourite too. I haven’t read the book yet but it seems to fit the story (given the description).
Lynn 😀
It fits the story so well!
I like the flower and the green title. I don’t know how appropriate for the story is, but it eye-catching!
It’s definitely eye catching!
