What’s On My Plate – May 2023

Happy May, everyone! I have a surprisingly light review TBR this month—”light” in this case being only eleven books, lol. However, there are still March and April books I’m trying to catch up with, so don’t think for a minute that I’m going to run out of reading material:-) Also, I have a couple of long books that will take some time to read. But wow, some of my most anticipated books of the year fall in May, so I’m anticipating a really good month.

May is also Wyrd & Wonder, a celebration of all things fantasy. I’ve been reading less and less fantasy over the past few years, and in fact I only have two fantasy books scheduled to read this month—Fourth Wing and Spring’s Arcana—but I do have a couple of fantasy lists planned (you know how I love lists!), so look for both an adult and young adult upcoming fantasy books lists at some point during the month.

Wyrd & Wonder is hosted by imyril, Ariana, Annemieke, Jorie and Lisa. You can check out their blogs for more information about the event.

Here’s what’s on my plate:

More Perfect by Temi Oh is probably my MOST anticipated May book. I absolutely loved her last book, so I hope I’m not setting myself up for disappointment, but the excitement is real.

The Endless Vessel by Charles Soule. Soule is another writer who never lets me down. I’ve loved both previous books of his I’ve read, so I’m pretty sure I’ll love this too.

The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. I’ve been hearing amazing things about this book, and the release date is tomorrow, so I’m already behind. But hopefully I can fly through it when I start it.

Graveyard of Lost Children by Katrina Monroe. This will be my first time reading this author, and I believe this is very dark and disturbing. Sign me up!

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. I may have started this already when this post goes live. Readers are raving about this book!

The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw. I’ve already read this and wow, what a creepy, disturbing horror story. My review will be up tomorrow, don’t miss it!

Deadly Memory by David Walton is the sequel to Living Memory, which was a ton of fun. I’m so glad he’s continuing the series!

All the Dead Lie Down by Kyrie McCauley. I’m eager to read more YA horror, and I think this sounds very good.

The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe. I caved and requested this at the last minute, it just sounds so damn good!

Spring’s Arcana by Lilith Saintcrow. This urban fantasy caught my attention months ago, but since then some of the reviews on Goodreads are turning out to be rather lukewarm. Still, I will give it a try!

Not Alone by Sarah K. Jackson. Here’s another book with lots of 3 star and DNF reviews. Hmmm. I’m still willing to give it a chance. I do love a climate change-focused dystopian:-)

Are any of these books on your plate too? What books are you most looking forward to reading this month?

  1. I’m looking forward to seeing all the fantasy this month! I just went over to read more about Deadly Memory and wow, I’m super intrigued for that!

Hey, I also have a “light” month, and I requested the Blighted Stars late because it sounded so good! High five!

Seriously though, maybe we’ll get some sleep in June

  3. Wow you really just have two fantasy books on your May list! I have around 7 fantasy must-reads, and 2 more that are from April. I also have about 9-10 books on my reading list in all but in terms of page length it’ll feel more like 16 since a few of them are twice as long as your average novel, lol. I started Springs Arcana too, and so far it’s interesting…

I wasn’t thinking about Wyrd and Wonder so that’s why I ended up with so little fantasy, lol. I need to start Springs Arcana soon:-)
