Most Anticipated Books of 2023 – Second Quarter

The first quarter of 2023 flew by, and here we are already in Q2. Today I’m sharing my most anticipated books coming out in April, May and June, and as usual, I’ve picked my top five for each month. At the end of this post, I’ll show you how I did last quarter!

April 2023 Most Anticipated:

Paradise-1 by David Wellington. This will be my first Wellington book, and I’m just going to dive in with high hopes, even though I’ve seen some low ratings and DNFs from fellow bloggers…

The Haunting of Alejandra by V. Castro. This is another “first” for me. I always hear Bookstagrammers talk about Castro’s books, and this sounds really good.

The Thick and the Lean by Chana Porter. I’m so curious about this book. A society where good food is forbidden, and there’s also a secret cookbook? Can’t wait:-)

The Scourge Between Stars by Ness Brown. I’ve already read this, and my review will be up later in the week. I enjoyed it, although it wasn’t the runaway hit that I was hoping for.

Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee. I can’t wait to check out this novella, which seems completely different from Lee’s last series.

May 2023 Most Anticipated:

More Perfect by Temi Oh. I might read this early, I’ve been so excited to see Temi Oh’s follow-up to Do You Dream of Terra Two? which I loved.

The Endless Vessel by Charles Soule. Soule is another favorite author who hasn’t had a release in several years, so I’m ecstatic that he’s got a new release in 2023:-)

The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw. I’ve been seeing nothing but positive reviews for this novella, and I’m so curious to see how Khaw spins the vampire subgenre.

Graveyard of Lost Children by Katrina Monroe. This sounds like a pretty dark story, and I am here for it!

The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. Cronin’s first book in seven years (?) is going to get lots of attention, and I can’t wait to see what he does after his popular The Passage series.

June 2023 Most Anticipated:

Gods of the Wyrdwood by R.J. Barker. After adoring Barker’s Tide Child series, of course I want to read his next book. This sounds very different!

Maeve Fly by C.J. Leede. This book sounds bonkers in the best possible way, and I’m super excited to check it out:-)

Night’s Edge by Liz Kerin. This sounds like another really good Tor Nightfire title, and also another mother/daughter horror story.

Maddalena and the Dark by Julia Fine. I think this has lots of potential, and I’m curious about the comparison to Addie LaRue.

The First Bright Thing by J.R. Dawson. A magical circus story that deals with trauma, I am so curious about this book.

First Quarter Results:

And here are my results from the first quarter of the year. Out of 15 books, I read 12, which is pretty good! I like starting the year strong, and I hope this trend continues.

What are your most anticipated books of the quarter? Do we have any in common?

  1. We usually have overlap, but I don’t have any of your most anticipated on my to-read list this time around! Partly, I’m sure, it’s because I’m really trying to scale back on new releases this year and focus more on my shelves. In any case, I’m very interested in More Perfect, and can’t wait for you to read and review it!

I have to say I’m jealous and I wish I had less review books and could fit in more “shelf” books:-)

  2. will

I can’t believe that you managed to pick FIVE books for May, and I can’t believe that you were able to FIND five books for June! And we share… one book for each month? Huh, and I was feeling so close to you with the snow and all :/

LOL hey one shared book for each month isn’t bad! Do you know how many book there are out there??

Ha ha I know we usually read quite different books. Although I do want to read The Lives of Puppets:-)

I only read the Passage as well. I think there was too much time between the other books in the series so I lost interest.

  3. Ooh well done on managing to read 12 out of 15 from your first quarter, that’s fantastic. I hope the second quarter goes just as well for you. I have a few of these on my tbr but I’m most intrigued by The Thick & The Lean. I can definitely say I’ve never seen anything like it before. Hope you enjoy these books.

  4. I’ve never read anything by Justin Cronin but I’ve heard enough good things I recently picked up The Passage. Can’t wait to try it.

  5. The cover of MAEVE FLY looks so gross lol. Glad to see The Endless Vessel on your list, too! I found it browsing on NG for upcoming releases this quarter. It looks interesting and the author is new to me–didn’t realize this isn’t his first book. Enjoy your reads this month!

LOL I know, it makes me wonder what’s inside the book:-) Charles Soule has written two other books that I loved, I’m so happy he’s got a new one coming out:-)
