Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. Science fiction, thriller and fantasy, I’ve got something for everyone this week:

The Blighted Stars (The Devoured Worlds #1) by Megan E. O’Keefe. Releases in May 2023 from Orbit. So I actually never finished O’Keefe’s last series, but that won’t stop me from starting a new one. I’m so excited, this sounds like a fun SF adventure!
The Martian meets 127 Hours in this “smart, surreal, and powerfully humane” (Owen King, New York Times bestselling author) thriller about a scuba diver who’s been swallowed by an eighty-foot, sixty-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out.
Jay Gardiner has given himself a fool’s errand—to find the remains of his deceased father in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Monastery Beach. He knows it’s a long shot, but Jay feels it’s the only way for him to lift the weight of guilt he has carried since his dad’s death by suicide the previous year.

Suspenseful and cinematic, Whalefall is an “astoundingly great” (Gillian Flynn, New York Times bestselling author) thriller about a young man who has given up on life…only to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.
Whalefall by Daniel Kraus. Releases in August 2023 from MTV Books. I’ve read a couple of Kraus’s books and I’m very interested in this one. It’s sounds very exciting, I love stories where the clock is ticking. I’m not familiar with MTV Books, but they are an imprint of Simon & Schuster. Should be fun!

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence. Releases in May 2023 from Ace Books. I can’t believe I’ve never read Mark Lawrence before, so it’s high time I did. This sounds like an epic library fantasy, and wow, check out that gorgeous cover!

I literally just learnt about the Mark Lawrence’s book from the post I read before yours but it sounds fantastic. And I’m with you, the cover is stunning. Also I have to admit I was kind of relieved to see that you haven’t read any of his books yet either. Red Sister has been on my tbr for years but I somehow haven’t got around to picking it up yet.
Hopefully we’ll both get to read Mark Lawrence this year:-)
I’ve not read any of Mark Lawrence’s books yet either, but this one is a fantasy and about books, in a library no less, so I’d certainly give it a try. And Whalefall sounds like a movie waiting to be made. I notice it says MTV Entertainment Books, which does give me pause (and not a good pause).
I know, when I saw “MTV” I thought, wow is MTV even around anymore? Weird, but I’m very curious.
I’m thrilled at the news of Megan O’Keefe’s new series, having enjoyed her “Protectorate” trilogy, and can hardly wait for its publication. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Whalefall sounds like nothing I’ve ever encountered before!! Fascinating, but maybe too claustrophobic? I’ll look forward to hearing what you think once you read it. The other two books sound great as well !
Whalefall sounds very different from the author’s other books, so I’m curious:-)
They all sound great!! I think that the one more intriguing to me is the O’Keefe one, but the other two have potential too!

Whalefall has a synopsis that made me go whoaaaa. I would absolutely love to read it as well.

I KNEW you would include The Blighted Stars! I just had such a feeling, as I was adding it to my monthly post (and admittedly, was VERY excited to see a cover, and a great one at that) that you’d be featuring it here! So glad you included Whalefall, too, because that one is new to me but I NEEEED it. I have also enjoyed books by the author, so I am excited for this one! I haven’t read any Mark Lawrence either! But between the cover and the synopsis, this one is going on my list for SURE!
