Over-Booked [168]

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

Here are the latest books I’ve added to my review TBR, and there are some exciting 2023 releases too:-)

Physical books for review:

Huge thanks to the kind folks at Tor for the first four books!

The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older. This book doesn’t come out until next year, but it’s a short novella and I really need some short books right now! I may try to squeeze in an early read/review this month for Sci-Fi Month if I can.

Oooh super excited to have a copy of Rubicon by J.S. Dewes! I absolutely loved her last series, The Divide. It will be a struggle to wait to read this since it doesn’t release until next March.

The First Bright Thing by J.R. Dawson sounds like a fantastic circus-centric fantasy. This is another 2023 release that I’m very excited to read:-)

Dead Country (Craft Wars #1) by Max Gladstone was a surprise arrival, and I’m actually very excited about this book. I read most of Gladstone’s Craft Sequence many years ago, and this looks like a spin off series with some of the same characters. Tara Abernathy was the MC in Three Parts Dead, so it’s pretty cool the author is bringing her back.

And big thanks to DAW/Astra Publishing for two of my most anticipated sci-fi books of 2022! I have already read Reckoning by W. Michael Gear and will have a review up next week. I’ll be starting Nightwatch Over Windscar by K. Eason very soon. From what I understand, this will wrap up Eason’s stellar series, which sort of makes me sad!

With thanks to Orbit Books for a finished paperback of Empire of Exiles by Erin M. Evans. This is already out, I believe (story of my life—running behind!). I have heard so many glowing things about it, I just have to read it for myself.

Finally, the second Buffy book in Kendare Blake’s In Every Generation series, One Girl in All the World, is one I’m hesitantly looking forward to. Why would I read the second book if the first one didn’t completely work for me? I mean, I’m a Buffy fan and always will be, so I need to see for myself what’s going to happen:-) Big thanks to Spark Point Studio for the review copy!

Do you have any of these on your TBR?

  1. I really like that cover for Rubicon, and it sounds like a story I might enjoy. I look forward to hearing whether you think the story is as good as the imagery.

  2. Dead Country looks interesting and I’m not even going tomention the Donovan series ha ha because I always do! I’m hoping to squeeze the first one in for SciFi Month 🙂

LOL don’t worry, I have plenty of publishers who don’t send me books:-) And by the way, I’m going to try your method of reading/reviewing and read everything the month before. Not sure I can do it but hey, I will try!

  3. A wonderful selection as always, Tammy! I love the look of Rubicon – and I’ve also checked out the previous series you namechecked – The Divide. It sounds right up my alley so I’ve put it on my TBR list… Thank you for sharing:).
