Future Fiction #199 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today, I have two exciting cover reveals from favorite authors, and a fantasy debut with a lovely cover:

From bestselling author M. R. Carey comes a brilliant new genre-defying story of humanity’s expansion across millions of dimensions—and the AI technology that might see it all come to an end. Perfect for readers of The Space Between Worlds and Adrian Tchaikovsky.

INFINITY IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

The Pandominion: a political and trading alliance of a million worlds – except that they’re really just the one world, Earth, in many different realities. And when an AI threat arises that could destroy everything the Pandominion has built, they’ll eradicate it by whatever means necessary, no matter the cost to human life.

Scientist Hadiz Tambuwal is looking for a solution to her own Earth’s environmental collapse when she stumbles across the secret of inter-dimensional travel. It could save everyone on her dying planet, but now she’s walked into the middle of a war on a scale she never dreamed of.

And she needs to choose a side before it kills her.

Infinity Gate (The Pandominion#1) by M.R. Carey. Releases in March 2023 from Orbit. I’m unbelievably excited for Carey’s next book! This sounds quite different from his previous books, and I’m eager to see what he does with an epic multiverse story.

Looking Glass Sound is the newest twisty psychological horror novel from Catriona Ward, the internationally bestselling author of The Last House on Needless Street and Sundial.

In a lonely cottage overlooking the windswept Maine coast, Wilder Harlow begins the last book he will ever write. It is the story of his childhood summer companions and the killer that stalked the small New England town. Of the body they found, and the horror of that discovery echoing down the decades. And of Sky, Wilder’s one-time best friend, who stole his unfinished memoir and turned it into a lurid bestselling novel, Looking Glass Sound.

But as Wilder writes, the lines between memory and fiction blur. He fears he’s losing his grip on reality when he finds notes hidden around the cottage written in Sky’s signature green ink.

Catriona Ward delivers another mind-bending and cleverly crafted tale about one man’s struggle to come to terms with the terrors of his past…before it’s too late.

Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward. Releases in August 2023 from Tor Nightfire. I actually snuck this cover into my 20 Horror Books to Read in 2023 yesterday, but I had to give it a bigger spotlight here. Having just finished Ward’s latest twisty horror story, I’m already looking forward to her next book:-)

Set in a lush world inspired by the history and folklore of South America, discover this sweeping epic fantasy of colonialism and country, ancient magic, and a young woman’s quest for belonging.

When Reina arrives at Aguila Manor, her heart stolen from her chest, she’s on the verge of death—until her estranged grandmother, a dark sorceress in the Don’s employ, intervenes.  Indebted to a woman she never knew, and smitten with the upper-caste daughter of the house, Celeste, Reina will do anything to earn–and keep–the family’s favor. Even the bidding of the ancient god who speaks to her from the Manor’s foundations. To save the woman she loves, Reina will have to defy the gods themselves, and become something she never could have imagined.

The Sun and the Void by Gabriela Romero Lacruz. Releases in July 2023 from Orbit. This cover is so pretty, and I love the sound of a South American folklore inspired fantasy.

  1. Infinity Gate sounds like a really epic Scifi story! I always love these kinda books where there’s an AI threat even though it scares me too hahah

I also love the premise of Looking Glass Sound. It sounds twisty and I love a good psychological thriller!

The Sun and the Void sounds absolutely amazing! “inspired by the history and folklore of South America…” That alone gae me heart eyes. And the cover is gorgeous as well, of course!

  2. Oooo… M.R. Carey does space opera!! THAT should be fascinating. And I love the sound of The Sun and the Void – what a gorgeous cover. You really do snag all the cool books, Tammy – and thank you so much for sharing them:)).

  3. Well,I had seen the Carey and was very excited about that but another Catriona Ward – fantastic news. And, The Sun and the Void also sounds amazing. Great post.
    Lynn 😀

  4. Each one appears completely different and yet I could see myself trying and enjoying them all. Infinity Gate has me realizing it’s been a while since I’ve read any sci-fi, or at least it feels that way. Might be time to find a good sci-fi story. Seems I recall something about that in November, right? 🙂
