Over-Booked [161] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

I honestly wasn’t planning on doing a book haul today, but a bunch of new books arrived in my mailbox and on my Kindle, so I decided to throw one up!

Physical books for review:

I’m so excited to have a physical ARC of Little Eve by Catriona Ward. This is one of her older books that is being rereleased by Tor Nightfire, and it’s won both the Shirley Jackson Award and the British Fantasy Award. Very promising! Big thanks to Nightfire for the review copy:-)

The wonderful folks at Orbit sent me the next three books. First up, Dead Water by C.A. Fletcher. I’ve been seeing some mixed reviews, with reviewers calling it “too long” or “too slow,” but I still have high hopes.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen is getting great reviews so far. This is an August release so I’ll be reading it next month.

Finally from Orbit, I received Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Atwater. This is the second book in her Regency Faerie Tales series, and you might remember that I didn’t love Half A Soul (totally unpopular opinion, since most people loved it). But since this is a standalone, I’m curious to see if it works better for me. Hugs to Orbit for these lovely review copies:-)

The last Tim Lebbon book I read was a blast! (Eden) And I’m excited to read his latest, The Last Storm. I’m on the blog tour for this book on Monday, and I’ll be sharing an excerpt. I hope to read the book soon and post a review. Stay tuned! Thank you Titan!

I am so grateful that Robin Kirk sent me copies of the entire Bond Trilogy! These are the new editions, aren’t they lovely? I have already read and adored The Bond and The Hive Queen (check out my reviews and let me convince you to start this series!), and I’ll be reading The Mother’s Wheel next month, just prior to its September release. Huge thanks to the author for such a generous gift:-)

Digital books for review:

Lots of new books in the digital haul! In order of excitement:

Sallow Bend by Alan Baxter. Alan is my latest horror obsession, I love his books so much. I’m so happy to see Cemetery Dance will be publishing his upcoming novel this August.

I’m so glad I’m auto approved with Thomas & Mercer on NetGalley, because the minute I saw Mothered by Zoje Stage pop up, I downloaded it without hesitation! I can’t wait for this one.

House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson. This vampire story sounds so good. I really enjoyed Henderson’s last book, so this will be perfect for the Fall.

I’m very happy I was approved for Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison. I keep hearing raves about her books, so I’m hoping this works for me.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett sounds more lighthearted than the first four books. Even I need a break from horror once in a while, lol.

I think Desert Creatures by Kate Chronister sounds so unique. I’m anxious to start this:-)

Finally, I was approved for the reprint of Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Signal to Noise. I actually own a paperback copy of the original edition but never got around to reading it. Now I have an excuse!

Big thanks to Cemetery Dance, Thomas & Mercer, Ace Books, Berkley, Del Rey, Erewhon & Rebellion:-D

Are any of these books on your TBR?

  1. I didn’t realize Little Eve was a rerelease. I love the cover. Interesting the similarities with the cover for Sallow Bend. I love reflections! 🙂

  2. I am curious to know what you would think of The Undertaking of… I read that book and I have some mixed feelings, on one hand it was not what I was expecting (and it wasn’t really what I was hoping in that moment) and this didn’t help during the reading, on the other it has a lot of good things in it and it was an enjoyable book.

  3. I’m also looking forward to House of Hunger. Hope it meets our expectations – which I confess on my part are probably ridiculously high.
    Lynn 😀
