A couple of weeks ago I brought you Twelve YA Fantasies to Get Excited About, and today it’s time for adult fantasy! I try not to repeat myself, so the books I’ve chosen are books I haven’t talked about yet on the blog. All the titles are linked to Goodreads, and I’m listing them in order of release date. All of these except one (I couldn’t resist sharing) are either standalone novels or the first in a series. Here we go!
The Last Stand of Mary Good Crow (The Crystal Calamity #1) by Rachel Aaron. Self published, June 1st. “Deadwood meets The Lord of the Rings in this Epic Fantasy of the West!” I have a lot of catching up to do with this author, but when I stumbled upon this start to a new series, I knew I had to share it!
The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen. Orbit Books, August 23rd. “Set in a world full of magic and demigods, donuts and small-town drama, this enchantingly quirky, utterly unique fantasy is perfect for readers of The House in the Cerulean Sea and The Invisible Library.”
Half a Soul (Regency Faerie Tales #1) by Olivia Atwater. Orbit Books, June 28th. “Bridgerton meets Howl’s Moving Castle in this enchanting historical fantasy, where the only thing more meddlesome than faeries is a marriage-minded mother.”
A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland. Tordotcom, August 30th. “The Goblin Emperor meets “Magnificent Century” in Alexandra Rowland’s A Taste of Gold and Iron, where a queer central romance unfolds in a fantasy world reminiscent of the Ottoman Empire.”

The Witch and the Tsar by Olesya Salnikova Gilmore. Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. Del Rey Books, January 10th 2023. “A curmudgeonly professor journeys to a small town in the far north to study faerie folklore and discovers dark fae magic, friendship, and love, in this heartwarming and enchanting fantasy.”
In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune. Tor Books, March 28th 2023. “New York Times bestselling author TJ Klune invites you deep into the heart of a peculiar forest and on the extraordinary journey of a family assembled from spare parts.”
Half a Soul is one of the books I would love to add to my TBR, and I hope to be able to soon because the premise sounds more than intriguing. Keeping my fingers crossed… 🙂

Oooh, so many good ones! The TJ Klune is absolutely one I want to read (and own). Beyond that, a lot of them look interesting, but I especially want to know more about The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy!

I just requested The Witch and the Tsar from Netgalley this week after I saw it being compared to one of my favorite fantasy series, the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden.
I missed that on NetGalley, I may have to go find it!
The Last Stand of Mary Good Crow is definitely going on to my TBR list based on that description 😀

The new Jemisin book sounds very interesting and so does the Rachel Aaron book.
I still haven’t read the first book in Jemisin’s series, but I have a copy of it:-)
I’ve read the new Rachel Aaron and really enjoyed it. I’ve also read one of the Atwater fae stories and would quite like to backtrack to the earlier one.

So many of these sound great! I’ll certainly a few to my TBR, most def Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries.
How many amazing books! Most of them are on my TBR and I am really excited about them all, but the two front runners here are Half a Soul that I wanted to read since forever and The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy!
I can’t wait for The Word We Make! So excited. And I just got an e arc of Fawcetts book. It sounds so good!
