Future Fiction #174 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Apologies if you don’t like horror, but I have three super exciting horror novels to share today!

A sinister novel based on the real Bloody Benders, a family of serial killers in the old West bound by butchery and obscured by the shadows of American history.

The winds shift nervously on the Kansas plain whispering of travelers lost and buried, whispering of witches. Something dark and twisted has taken root at the Bender Inn.

At first the townspeople of Cherryvale welcome the rising medium Kate Bender and her family. Kate’s messages from the Beyond give their tedious dreams hope and her mother’s potions cure their little ills—for a price. No one knows about their other business, the shortcut to a better life. And why shouldn’t their family prosper? They’re careful. It’s only from those who are marked, those who travel alone and can easily disappear, that the Benders demand their pound of flesh.

But even a gifted seer like Kate can make a misstep. Now as the secrets festering beneath the soil of the family orchard threaten to bring them all to ruin, the Benders must sharpen their craft—or vanish themselves.

All the Blood We Share by Camilla Bruce. Releases in November 2022 from Berkley Books. I can’t believe we’re getting TWO new Camilla Bruce books this fall! This cover was just revealed, although to be honest I’m a little confused, because there are two covers floating around out there. I’m wondering if the other one is a UK cover perhaps? This is the cover that’s on Amazon and Edelweiss so I’m going with it. This sounds like it’s in the same vein as In the Garden of Spite, which is also based on a real-life serial killer. I cannot wait!

Your past and your family can haunt you like nothing else… A hilarious and terrifying new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Final Girl Support Group.

Every childhood home is haunted, and each of us are possessed by our parents.

When their parents die at the tail end of the coronavirus pandemic, Louise and Mark Joyner are devastated but nothing can prepare them for how bad things are about to get. The two siblings are almost totally estranged, and couldn’t be more different. Now, however, they don’t have a choice but to get along. The virus has passed, and both of them are facing bank accounts ravaged by the economic meltdown. Their one asset? Their childhood home. They need to get it on the market as soon as possible because they need the money. Yet before her parents died they taped newspaper over the mirrors and nailed shut the attic door.

Sometimes we feel like puppets, controlled by our upbringing and our genes. Sometimes we feel like our parents treat us like toys, or playthings, or even dolls. The past can ground us, teach us, and keep us safe. It can also trap us, and bind us, and suffocate the life out of us. As disturbing events stack up in the house, Louise and Mark have to learn that sometimes the only way to break away from the past, sometimes the only way to sell a haunted house, is to burn it all down.

How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. Releases in January 2023 from Berkley. I just saw the cover yesterday, so I knew I had to include Grady Hendrix’s upcoming book in my post today. You all know I’m a huge Hendrix fan, and I wish January weren’t so far away!

Something old and deadly has awoken.

When two teenagers go missing from the small, rural town of Sallow Bend, the residents come together to search for them. Little do they suspect that finding the wayward girls will be the start of their problems. An old evil is rising, and only one man seems to realize that everyone is in danger and this is not the first time it’s happened. With the carnival in town, people want to have a good time, but for many, this will be the worst time of their lives.

Sallow Bend by Alan Baxter. Releases in July 2023 from Cemetery Dance. I couldn’t be more excited for this book! Hot off the heels of reading The Fall, I am so ready for more Alan Baxter, and I’m excited this will be published by Cemetery Dance!

  1. I can’t call myself a super fan of horror but I always love reading your horror because you never know how good a book can be.

Is it weird to say that I love that All the Blood We Share is based on a family of serial killers? Because I do love that haha

I know how much you love Grady Hendrix’s books so I hope you’ll end up really enjoying How to Sell a Haunted House. I still need to read my first book by him but at some point I will!

Sallow Bend has a rather short synopsis but I love everything it said. Also, the cover gives a really creepy vibe, which I love!

She did a great job with In the Garden of Spite, so I know her new one is going to be fantastic:-)

  2. Ooooh these all look delightfully messed up! I have had the Goodreads pages open in tabs since I first read your post last week (I am such a disaster of a person ) but I must add them now! I LOVE the Grady Hendrix cover, and I have enjoyed his books in the past so that is one I need for sure. The others sound really good too- kind of want to know what kind of shenanigans will ensue in the creepy town carnival for sure!
