Over-Booked [157] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

So the past couple of weeks my mailbox sort of exploded, lol. When it rains it pours, right? The good news is this is an awesome pile of books and most of them were already on my TBR. The bad news is I need to read faster…

Physical books for review:

I actually won a Goodreads giveaway! It’s been several years since that happened, so I’m pretty excited. The book? Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak. There are some mixed reviews on Goodreads, but I’m going into this with an open mind. Thank you to Flatiron for the copy!

I can’t believe I have Ronald Malfi’s new book in my hands! I am beyond excited to read Black Mouth, which comes out in July. You might remember how much I loved Come With Me, and after that experience I will read anything he writes:-) Biggest of hugs to Titan!

I’m also extremely happy to have a copy of The Hourglass Throne by K.D. Edwards, with thanks to Pyr Books. This is the finale to the first trilogy in Keith’s nine book fantasy series (three trilogies!) and it comes out in May, so I will be reading it soon.

Courtesy of Wunderkind PR & 47North, I received a copy of The Peacekeeper by B.L. Blanchard. This sounds cool. It’s an alternate history mystery that revolves around a Native character and takes place in a U.S. that was never colonized.

I had fun with the last YA thriller I read, so I’m jumping in again with We Made It All Up by Margot Harrison. This sounds great and involves two girls who write fan fiction, murder and more. With thanks to Little, Brown Books for Young Readers:-D

Darling Girl by Liz Michalski. I almost forgot I requested this, and it comes out in a couple of weeks. But I couldn’t resist this Peter Pan retelling, it sounds so good! Big thanks to Dutton for the review copy.

This next bunch is mostly from Tor: First up, Worlds of Exile and Illusion by Ursula K. Le Guin, which is a new bind-up of Le Guin’s Hainish series and contains the first three novels of the series. These are Le Guin’s first published books, so I’m curious to check them out.

More big thanks to Tor for finished copies of these next two: Seasonal Fears by Seanan McGuire and Book of Night by Holly Black. I am so behind and was hoping to read both of these by now, but look for reviews coming in the new two weeks or so.

And courtesy of Tordotcom, I received two surprises, Face by Joma West and Self-Portrait With Nothing by Aimee Pokwatka. Both are on my watch list and both sound unusual in a good way!

Finally, huge thanks to Angry Robot for this surprise arrival! The Last Blade Priest by W.P. Wiles wasn’t on my radar, but now I’m very curious!

Digital books for review:

I downloaded Lute by Jennifer Thorne as soon as it popped up on NetGalley. I just featured this on Future Fiction, and I can’t wait to read it.

I was offered a copy of Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro, and in fact I’ll be on the blog tour in June, I believe. I have to admit I’m intimidated by the page count—nearly 700 pages!—because I often don’t do well with long books. But I’ve heard good things so I’m optimistic:-)

Finally, with thanks to author Tim Meyer for a copy of his new book Pteranodon Canyon. OMG this sounds amazing! I’m behind because this book was just released (sorry Tim!) but I hope to fit it in soon.

Huge thanks to Tor Nightfire, Flatiron Books and Tim Meyer:-D

Are any of these books on your radar?

  1. I’ve enjoyed each of the Malfi books I’ve read so I’m certainly up for trying Black Mouth. Many others here also caught my attention, but we’ll see how many I ever actually get to. 🙂

  2. The Tim Meyer book sounds so good, definitely something I might read, and I’m curious about Black Mouth too. Have never read anything by Ronald Malfi before but that might have to change.
    Enjoy your reads 😀
