Future Fiction #171 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Three new exciting cover reveals, take a look:

For fans of Riley Sager and Paul Tremblay, a terrifying supernatural page-turner that explores ghosts, grief, and god complexes.

Ever since their on-again, off-again college romance, Erin hasn’t been able to set a single boundary with charismatic but reckless Silas, who’s been chasing the next big high since graduation. When he texts her to spring him out of rehab, she knows enough is enough. She’s ready to start a career, make new friends, and meet a great guy—even if that means cutting Silas off. But when Silas turns up dead from an overdose, Erin’s world falls apart.

When Erin learns that Silas discovered a drug that allowed him to see the dead, she doesn’t believe it’s real but agrees to a pill-popping “séance” to ease her guilt and pain. When she steps back into the real world, she starts to see ghosts from her Southern hometown’s bloody and brutal past everywhere. Are the effects pharmacological or something more sinister? And will Erin be able to shut the Pandora’s box of horrors she’s opened?

With propulsive momentum, bone-chilling scares, and dark meditations on the weight of history, this Southern horror will make you think twice about opening doors to the unknown.

Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman. Releases in September 2022 from Quirk Books. I’m a big fan of Chapman’s books, and it seems like I’ve been waiting forever for his next book to be announced. This cover is super creepy and I am there for it!

WANTED – Bloodmaid of exceptional taste. Must have a keen proclivity for life’s finer pleasures. Girls of weak will need not apply.

A young woman is drawn into the upper echelons of a society where blood is power, in this dark and enthralling gothic novel from the author of The Year of the Witching.

Marion Shaw has been raised in the slums, where want and deprivation is all she knows. Despite longing to leave the city and its miseries, she has no real hope of escape until the day she spots a peculiar listing in the newspaper, seeking a bloodmaid.

Though she knows little about the far north—where wealthy nobles live in luxury and drink the blood of those in their service—Marion applies to the position. In a matter of days, she finds herself the newest bloodmaid at the notorious House of Hunger. There, Marion is swept into a world of dark debauchery—and at the center of it all is her.

Countess Lisavet, who presides over this hedonistic court, is loved and feared in equal measure. She takes a special interest in Marion. Lisavet is magnetic, and Marion is eager to please her new mistress. But when her fellow bloodmaids begin to go missing in the night, Marion is thrust into a vicious game of cat and mouse. She’ll need to learn the rules of her new home—and fast—or its halls will soon become her grave.

House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson. Releases in October 2022 from Ace Books. Henderson has two new books out this year, and I was really excited to see this cover revealed the other day. I absolutely love it, and I think the story sounds fantastic. I feel like we’re getting some really good vampire books this fall!

When an army of giant robot AIs threatens to devastate Earth, a virtuoso pianist becomes humanity’s last hope in this bold, lightning-paced, technicolor new space opera series from the author of A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe.

Jazz pianist Gus Kitko expected to spend his final moments on Earth playing piano at the greatest goodbye party of all time, and maybe kissing rockstar Ardent Violet, before the last of humanity is wiped out forever by the Vanguards–ultra-powerful robots from the dark heart of space, hell-bent on destroying humanity for reasons none can divine.

But when the Vanguards arrive, the unthinkable happens–the mecha that should be killing Gus instead saves him. Suddenly, Gus’s swan song becomes humanity’s encore, as he is chosen to join a small group of traitorous Vanguards and their pilots dedicated to saving humanity.

August Kitko and the Mechas from Space by Alex White. Releases in July 2022 from Orbit. For some reason I’m getting Space Opera (Catherynne M. Valente) vibes from this book. It sounds really funny, and I’m loving the cover!

Me too, I never got tired of vampires and it’s nice to see we’ll have some choices later in the year.

  1. I’m super freaked out by the cover of Ghost Eaters but it sounds like a really good read. I wanna read it for spooky season this year!

House of Hunger sounds amazing as well! I’ve seen the cover reveal the other day and it’s so gorgeous. Another book for spooky season!

I was JUST thinking “Space Opera!” when I was reading the synopsis of August Kitko and the Mechas from Space. It sounds really great!
Stephanie @ Bookfever recently posted…Can’t-Wait Wednesday: Hell Bent by Leigh BardugoMy Profile

  2. I have my eyes set on August Kitko (not only because the aliens there make me think of the Daleks, if the Daleks were able to rebel LOL).

  3. The description of August Kitko and the Mechas from Space vaguely brought back memories of the anime RahXephon, which I really enjoyed (and I’m getting ready to start a rewatch). They sound very different, but both involve music, mecha, traitors, saving humanity, so I guess they also have something in common. 🙂

I love the music aspect of August Kitko, you don’t see a lot of SFF books that deal with music.

Isn’t it gorgeous? Definitely makes me want to read it, even without knowing what the story is about.

She has a sequel to Year of the Witching, but it might have been pushed. I’m still looking forward to it, whenever it comes out!

While the Ghost Eaters cover freaked me the HELL out, the blurb actually sparks my interest. I expected something much more in the horror vein but seeing dead people, I think (I hope) I can handle! And ohhh, August Kitko sounds brilliant!!!
