Future Fiction #159 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Three exciting new books, take a look:

Perfect for fans of Stephen King’s IT, a group of friends return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they first stumbled on as teenagers in this mesmerizing odyssey of terror.

For nearly two decades, Jamie Warren has been running from darkness. He’s haunted by a traumatic childhood and the guilt at having disappeared from his disabled brother’s life. But then a series of unusual events reunites him with his estranged brother and their childhood friends, and none of them can deny the sense of fate that has seemingly drawn them back together.

Nor can they deny the memories of that summer, so long ago – the strange magic taught to them by an even stranger man, and the terrible act that has followed them all into adulthood. In the light of new danger, they must confront their past by facing their futures, and hunting down a man who may very well be a monster.

Black Mouth by Ronald Malfi. Releases in July 2022 from Titan Books. Anyone who follows me knows that last year I became a HUGE Ronald Malfi fan after reading Come With Me, which ended up in my top five books of the year. I was beyond excited to learn about his next book, which comes out in only a few months! I love the It comparison, although I know Malfi will put his unique spin on the story.

“The subversive fairy tale world and engaging plot will draw readers in.” – Publishers Weekly

When precocious Lilly, an eleven-year-old, undergoes an inexplicable and startling growth spurt, her father and doctors decide to take drastic action to curb what they see as a dangerous development. Faced with condescending treatment and cruelty, Lilly escapes and embarks on a journey to discover her true self. Zoje Stage’s new novella is a parable for how patriarchy treats the female body (and, by extension, the female mind and soul) and the objectification of girls.

Zoje Stage is the USA Today and internationally bestselling author of Baby Teeth, Wonderland, and Getaway. A former filmmaker with a penchant for the dark and suspenseful, she lives in Pittsburgh.

The Girl Who Outgrew the World by Zoje Stage. Releases in May 2022 from Lethe Press. I caught the news about this new novella from Zoje Stage on Instagram, and I’m so excited to read it! I loved Getaway last year, and I’m up for anything Stage writes. I couldn’t find this listed on Goodreads, so I’m linking up to the publisher’s website.

An epic fantasy ode to martial arts and magic—the story of a spoiled hero, an exacting grandmaster, and an immortal god-king from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Lives of Tao.

It has been foretold: A child will rise to defeat the Eternal Khan, a cruel immortal god-king, and save the kingdom.

The hero: Jian, who has been raised since birth in luxury and splendor, celebrated before he has won a single battle.

But the prophecy was wrong.

Because when Taishi, the greatest war artist of her generation, arrives to evaluate the prophesied hero, she finds a spoiled brat unprepared to face his destiny.

But the only force more powerful than fate is Taishi herself. Possessed of an iron will, a sharp tongue—and an unexpectedly soft heart—Taishi will find a way to forge Jian into the weapon and leader he needs to be in order to fulfill his legend.

What follows is a journey more wondrous than any prophecy can foresee: a story of master and student, assassin and revolutionary, of fallen gods and broken prophecies, and of a war between kingdoms, and love and friendship between deadly rivals.

The Art of Prophecy (The War Arts Saga #1) by Wesley Chu. Releases in August 2022 from Del Rey. It’s been years since I’ve read a new book by Wesley Chu, and I’m quite excited for this one! Plus take a look at that gorgeous cover. Can’t wait!

  1. I look forwrad to reading another book by Ronald Malfi, and this one sounds promising. I don’t believe I’ve tried anything by Wesley Chu yet, but have been curious to and I agree, that is a great cover.

  2. Black Mouth, the title alone gives me shivers. And the cover is creepy looking too! I hope you’ll end up enjoying it.

The Girl Who Outgrew the World got me at ” a parable for how patriarchy treats the female body (and, by extension, the female mind and soul) and the objectification of girls.” YES

I haven’t read Wesley Chu yet (but I want to!). The Art of Prophecy sounds amazing and badass!

  3. Ooh very intrigued by the last of these in particular, especially as I majorly want to start reading more fantasy series. It sounds incredible though!! Really interested in the first too, as long as it doesn’t freak me out too much
