This week’s theme: A Halloween read
We’re getting a jump on Halloween today! I wanted to choose a recent read with spooky vibes, and The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward just happens to have several covers to compare. Take a look:
Tor Nightfire (U.S.) edition 2021 | Viper (UK) edition 2021
Spanish edition 2021 | German edition 2021
Viper paperback edition 2021
It’s hard to believe these all came out this year, so you can imagine in a few more years there will probably be a lot more covers. I really like a lot of these! The Spanish edition is very cool and moody, and I think the German edition is clever, but my favorite has to be the Nightfire edition:
I was gonna go with Nightfire until I saw the German one, now I’m torn, I think the German one is very clever but the first one works better as a whole.
That’s what I was thinking too.
I’m really loving the Viper (UK) edition!! Love this post.
Thanks Allison!
The combination creepy house/black cat is just perfect, with that street lamp giving the right amount of light to the overall darkness…

It makes it seem like a haunted house story, which it sort of is, but it’s so much more:-)
I agree 100% 🙂
Yes, it’s the best one:-)
I love the Tor Nightfire version too. I just love how atmospheric it is.
I agree! Although it’s funny how the cat is outside the house, but in the story it never leaves.
I love the cover you’ve chosen – it’s so creepy and dramatic.
Lynn 😀
It is creepy, and it matches the story so well.
The Nightfire cover is my favorite, too! I think I’m a sucker for cats on book covers, but also, it has such an atmospheric, eerie vibe. 😀
That green certainly gives it that eerie vibe!
You know, I hadn’t seen the UK cover?? That’s pretty nice. But gotta say, the atmosphere, and that lovely green (plus the kitty!) of the US cover is just wonderful.

The US cover works best for the story, I think.
I think I prefer the Viper paperback edition.
It is very clever:-)
I like that one the best too, although there is something about the second one too. I need to get this one.

It’s so good!
I definitely prefer the Tor Nightfire edition. I remember liking it the first time I saw it here.
I think it works the best for the story:-)
Ooh, I kinda dig the one with the cat’s eye! Awesome choice of book!
I like that one too, it’s pretty clever:-)
