The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: Kings & Rulers
I’ve decided to go with The Wicked King by Holly Black, the second book in her The Folk of the Air series. Hey, “King” is already in the title, and the king in question is a Faerie King! I found six different covers, let’s take a look:
U.S. Little, Brown Books edition 2019 | Barnes & Nobel special edition 2019
Owlcrate exclusive edition 2019 | Illumicrate exclusive edition (Hot Key Books) 2020
Chinese edition 2020 | Ukrainian edition 2020
There are some interesting choices here. I think the Illumicrate edition is beautiful, but it’s not my favorite. I actually like the slight color difference of the Barnes & Nobel edition, but ugh I hate that ugly sticker! For me, I’m sticking with the copy I have, which is the original U.S. hardcover:
I’m going with the Illumicrate edition because seahorses are so cool!

I agree with your choice: it’s the best one both for theme and color choice – its stands out over the other ones 🙂

This is my favorite book in The Falk of the Air series! And I like the Illumicrate edition the most because I love seahorses!

The Owl Crate one is rather strange but at the same time I kind of like it…lol.
Ooh, some of these I’ve seen! I kinda dig the sea horse one 😀
I actually like all of these. The US cover has a certain drama to it, Illumicrate edition is beautiful, Chinese doesn’t really tell me much about the book but *chef kiss*, and the Ukrainian one has a melancholy to it that I just dig. Think I agree with you though, overall.

My mind went to The Wicked King on this one, too! Great minds and all that, eh? 😉 I hadn’t seen the Owlcrate one before, but I really like that one! I think it’s my favorite. 😀 Though I’m pretty partial to the B&N one, too, because I love the contrast with the dark colors.
I have to say I love the cover with the seahorse – it really appeals to me.
Lynn 😀
