The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: A book with a landscape you’d like to visit.
So, I know this is sort of a dark and dreary landscape, but I like it! Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire is my favorite of her Wayward Children series, and I found some alternate covers, take a look:
Tor.com edition 2017. I love this cover and it’s definitely my favorite! This landscape is the Moors, a cool, creepy setting full of vampires and other beasties.
Spanish edition, 2018. This cover is similar with some of the same elements as the first one, but not quite as successful.
Bulgarian edition, 2020. This cover is completely different and confuses me a bit. It’s nice on its own, but I don’t see much of the story in it, to be honest.
Library binding, 2020. This one isn’t bad, but it makes it seem like this is a happier story than it is. The story is actually pretty dark so I don’t think this cover works at all.
The first one has got to be my favorite. I’m not too fond of the other ones, they just aren’t as pretty. 😛

I really like the Bulgarian edition, but if it doesn’t fit the story, it’s not the best cover for the book.

The first one in your lineup (and the one I’m more familiar with) remains my favorite: it has the right amount of bleakness to showcases the story… 🙂

I’ve fallen in love with that fabulous Bulgarian cover, Tammy! What a shame it doesn’t line up with the story very well…
I also prefer the Tor.com edition with its slighly darker feel to it, with the Spanish my second favorite.
Oh yes, without doubt, the Tor is the best.

Oh excellent choice! I haven’t read this series, but I always admire the covers whenever a new book comes out. I’m actually going to go with the second cover, it’s not as impressive but I like the sparklies 😛

I do love the landscapes on the covers in this series! I definitely like the Tor one the best!
