Most Anticipated Books of 2021 – Third Quarter

I love looking ahead at all the wonderful books coming up, and today we’re checking out my most anticipated reads of the third quarter—books releasing in July, August and September! I have to say, the third quarter is probably the most exciting of the year, at least for me. Most of my most highly anticipated books will be released during these three months, and I can’t wait to get started. As usual, I have chosen my top five books for each month, although I will read others as well. Once again, I want to mention that there still isn’t a cover for The Bone Ship’s Wake, which belongs on this list. But I just can’t bring myself to show a blank cover, so I’ve left it off for now. Also, at the end of this post, you can see how I did last quarter! Here we go!

July 2021

The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig. I will probably read this over the long 4th of July holiday this weekend, I cannot wait any longer! I’ve been hearing amazing things about this book.

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix. Hendrix has yet to disappoint me, he’s a very consistent writer, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to love this.

We Have Always Been Here by Lena Nguyen. Sci-fi thrillers seem to be my jam lately, so I’m always on the lookout for something new. I think this is going to be great!

Rovers by Richard Lange. This is a vampire story, although no one has listed it as “horror” on Goodreads yet. I’m really looking forward to starting this, and wow it’s getting great reviews so far.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. This will be my first Becky Chambers, guys! I can’t wait:-D

August 2021

Feral Creatures by Kira Jane Buxton. I mean, do I need to go on about this book, or does everyone already know how I feel? LOL.

My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones. I’ve heard some reviewers say they liked this but didn’t love it, at least compared to The Only Good Indians. I don’t care, I plan on forming my own opinions and I’m excited!

Getaway by Zoje Stage. I really loved Stage’s last book, Wonderland, and this thriller/horror novel sounds soooo good.

The Exiled Fleet by J.S. Dewes. This is the sequel to The Last Watch, which I LOVED earlier this year. I can’t believe how quickly this sequel is being released!

Revelator by Daryl Gregory. I haven’t seen anyone talk about this book at all, which is a shame. Daryl Gregory is one of the most interesting speculative writers out there, and I can’t recommend his books highly enough!

September 2021

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. I can almost guarantee that I will be reading this book in July, for my Horror in July feature. I simply cannot wait until September!

Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo. More Gothic horror! I feel like readers are being spoiled this year with so many good books. I’m ridiculously excited for this one!

Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki. This has so many cool sounding elements, and it’s been getting amazing reviews so far. Can’t wait!

The Offset by Calder Szewczak. I am going to learn how to spell “Szewczak” before this is over, I swear;-) Anyway, I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book!

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. I had to add this, right? I don’t have a review copy yet, although I’m hoping to get one at some point, but of course I will read it no matter what. Hey, it’s Krisoff!

Want to see how I did last quarter? Not bad, actually. I’m pretty pleased, although my June reading sort of fell off the rails, oh well! I haven’t posted my review of For the Wolf yet, but I’m counting it anyway.

What books are you excited to read this quarter?

  1. Lots to look forward to this quarter! 🙂 I just started These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant, due out the end of October, and I’m really enjoying it so far. And The Chariot at Dusk, book 3 of Swati Teerdhala’a YA series Tiger at Midnight, just released as audiobook today so I’ve downloaded that and can’t wait to start. I love Sneha Mathan’s narration of this series.

  2. I have a few of these on my list too, and I just cannot wait to read them. I went from July through the end of the year, so I have a longgg list and I’m sure there are tons more I could have added. hah

It’s crazy how many books are coming out, it’s going to be hard to read them all:-)

You really do have an amazing knack for picking gorgeous covers AND books with the most interesting blurbs, Tammy!

  4. Oh yes, so many great books to look forward to. I’ve made a list so I can post myself – but Empire of the Vampire will definitely be on there and I’ve started the Final Girl Support Group and so far so good.

  5. Right now, I’m not reading too many new releases as I can’t guarantee when I’ll be able to write the reviews and post them… But I will be tracking down The Last Watch, thanks for putting it on my radar – and I also love the sound of the latest Becky Chambers, though it is on the short side! Thank you for featuring all these very cool reads, Tammy – as ever, I’ve bookmarked several…

  6. We have SO many in common! Your July list looks like my actual “July 2021” shelf on Goodreads, no lie! Rovers hadn’t been on my list, but it likely will be hah! I loved A Psalm for the Wild Built, and liked We Have Always Been Here. Also HARD same about The Exiled Fleet! I was approved for it today and did a happy dance- even though I’d pre-ordered the second I finished the first one! Ditto on My Heart is a Chainsaw, I absolutely plan on forming my own opinions- plus it sounds so good! Now I have a few more to check out from your list, thank you for sharing them!

I’m excited that we have so many books in common! Here’s to a fantastic month:-)

  7. Seems like most of my most anticipated books are coming out at the end of this year, too, for some reason. It’s a conspiracy! I’m really looking forward to The Last House on Needless Street myself. Oh, and Jay Kristoff’s new book, too, of course. I’m dying to read that already! Also, I *definitely* need to read Summer Sons now! Oh man, that sounds so good.
