The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: A series that changed cover midway through.
This was a hard prompt! But I did come up with a good example, although I probably won’t be the only one to choose this book. I’ve actually only read the fourth book in this series, but it’s one I definitely plan to catch up with at some point. The Miriam Black series by Chuck Wendig is about a woman who can see how a person is going to die just by touching them. Angry Robot published the first three books in the series, and later Saga Press rereleased those first three books and published three additional ones. Of course, at that time there was a cover change. Take a look:

I never saw the Saga Press covers before and I have to admit they are gorgeous! 🙂

Yeah, this is a tough one. I love birds so I’m drawn to the more recent Saga covers, but I also really like those original Angry Robot covers. I’ve not tried this series yet, but I did recently read Wanderers, my first exposure to the author (and really enjoyed it).
All of these different cover styles have something I must say but to choose one that I’d consider my favorite I’d go for the Saga Press editions. 🙂

I know Wendig runs a wonderful blog, where he gives some awesome writing advice. I haven’t tried his books though. My favorite cover set is the Angry Robot one — esp. the one for Cormorant.
The Angry Robot covers had personality, but I do love the Saga editions!
The Saga Press ones are good, but I love those Angry Robot ones. If I decide to read any of those books, I’ll search for those Angry Robot covers to get.
I think I like both also. They’re different enough that I think both bring something unique to the vibe. Pretty drastic changes, though!

I nearly used this series. I do love the original covers, it’s not that I don’t like the newer versions – just, that I really love all the little attention to detail.
Lynn 😀
Am I the only one that gets really annoyed when series covers change midway through? xD I really want my covers to match for some illogical reason (even though I shelve by spine color and definitely don’t shelve series together, so I realize this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever).
Anyway, I do think the Angry Robot covers are super striking, but I enjoy the more colorful Saga Press covers, too. I think the color does a better job of grabbing my attention.
