Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
My husband took a trip to the Anza-Borrego Desert in California, and took some cool animal photos, and I’m sharing a couple of my favorites at the end of this post:-D Let’s see, what else is going on? My daughter is coming for a visit on Saturday, I’m so excited! I think the last time I saw her was in January. She’s finishing up finals this week, and then she’ll officially be a senior. Where did the time go??
Upcoming reviews:
I went completely off my schedule this past week and decided to do some mood reading. I realized that Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir releases this Tuesday and I wanted to get a review up before then, so I ditched what I was reading and jumped in! I’ll just say if you loved The Martian, you will love this book too. There’s a ton of science and technical information, but Weir has such a great imagination and has come up with some amazing scenarios. Look for my review tomorrow. After that, I’m knocking out another May 4th release, Immunity Index by Sue Burke. I know May is Wyrd & Wonder, but I guess I’m starting off with two science fiction books, oh well:-P
Upcoming reads:
My first Wyrd & Wonder fantasy read will be The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman. I am so excited I’m finally cracking this open! After that, it’s back to science fiction with The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He.
Other posts:
Kicking off my Wyrd & Wonder lists, this Tuesday I’m featuring Ten Upcoming Adult Fantasy Books to Get Excited About; Wednesday’s Future Fiction will be all fantasy! The Friday Face Off is “series cover change,” and look for (finally!) a book haul post next Saturday.

I know! The veins in his ears are amazing:-)
I love those photos, especially the jackrabbit.

Thank you, I agree, that jackrabbit is the best:-)
I love roadrunners! Great pics. I am super looking forward to your review of Project Hail Mary. The hubster loves Weir’s writing, so it may be a buddy read for us.:-)

Thanks Priscilla:-) Yes, Project Hail Mary would be so much fun to buddy read!
I got off track last week too and am hoping to finish up Project Hail Mary today to post review (hopefully) Tuesday. It’s so good!!
It is! So many surprises:-)
I’m so glad you loved Project Hail Mary. I’m looking forward to jumping into that one.
Hope you enjoy it!
That Jackrabbit!!!! And your daughter will be a senior? The time is flying by!
I know! I still remember grade school so clearly, I hate time sometimes!!
Looking forward to your review of the new Andy Weir book: The Martian did not exactly agree with me, while I enjoyed Artemis, so I’m curious to see how this one will fare with my tastes…
And that roadrunner picture made me wonder if there was Wile E. Coyote nearby 😀

LOL that would have been a good idea, to post a roadrunner and a coyote in the same post:-)
The photos are great! Sometimes you just have to read what you want. Robin is reviewing Project Hail Mary tomorrow also. I need to read this author. I love scifi.

I’m make sure to catch Robin’s review! Thanks Anne:-)
That’s why I don’t have a schedule—I know I won’t stick to it, but I get sidetracked quite easily. What are tangents but the spice of life?
I agree! My schedules are always “suggestions.” lol
Wow, those pics are great! It’s amazing to see a real roadrunner, I’ve never seen one outside the cartoons!
I’ve just had my Amazon notification that Hail Mary is on its way but as it’s a bank holiday weekend it may be delayed but I’m happy to hear it’s as good as his other work.
Have a lovely time with your daughter.

Roadrunners are very hard to spot in the wild. I grew up in the desert and only saw them a few times! Enjoy Project Hail Mary!
Time goes by quick, doesn’t it? And nice pics! Both are awesome but I love the close up on the roadrunner!
The Immunity Index has me curious, Wyrd & Wonder is going to kill me TBR- wise 🙂

Ha ha yeah I always discover a lot of new books during Wyrd & Wonder too:-) Thanks Greg!
Hey, a little science fiction mixed in with the fantasy is always a welcome thing. Look at the ears on that jackrabbit. Wow! And great closeup of the roadruner. Such amazing colors in that little stream beside the eye.
I love seeing all the tiny feather details in the close up photos, especially that roadrunner:-)
Those photos are absolutely stunning – no wonder they are your favourites! I’m so glad the prospect of seeing your daughter draws nearer. It’s now nearly 18 months since I’ve seen my son – and while I’m delighted to know that he’s really happy – I do miss him. I’m delighted that you enjoyed Project Hail Mary so much – I’ll probably get hold of the audiobook. I haven’t joined Wyrd and Wonder yet – and am wondering whether to do so, given that I can’t guarantee that I will be around much. I hope you have a great week, Tammy:)).
Thank you Sarah:-) I hope you’ll get to see your son soon, I know it must be tough.
I was completely off my schedule too, and I was supposed to have Project Hail Mary done by now but weekend plans got in the way, oops! Luckily I had W&W stuff that needed to be posted anyway, so that bought me some time. I’m loving the book, and I agree, it’s definitely more in line with The Martian in terms of tone and style. I think he realized that’s the winning formula, after the “experiment” that was Artemis 😉
It’s good when authors try new things, but also good when they recognize their own special style:-)
Sometimes it just feels so nice to let your inner mood reader take you wherever it wants to go. 🙂 LOVE your hubby’s photos, especially the one of the jackrabbit. So cute!
Thanks Suzanne!
I had no idea Jackrabbits were all ears, adorable!
I know! They are super cute, especially since you can see all the veins in their ears…
I’m planning to dive into The Ones We’re Meant to Find soon also, I’m so curious about it! I’ve also heard SO many good things about The Blacktongue Thief and am so curious about it, I hope you enjoy it. I love the jackrabbit!
I just started The Blacktongue Thief and I’m so surprised at how funny it is:-)
Oooh! Immunity Index looks good! I need to go check out your review for the Andy Weir book too. I do love that Jack rabbit picture too! Here’s to a good May for us all!

Yes, I think May will be really good:-)
I hope your daughter’s finals went well and that you have a nice visit with her. Love the photos! We haven’t been to the Anza-Borrego Desert other than to drive by. Today was the first I’d heard about Wyrd & Wonder. I am not participating, but I will have to make a point of reading more fantasy this month. Maybe. We’ll see where my mood takes me. I am glad you enjoyed Project Hail Mary. We visited the local Barnes and Noble yesterday and I spent awhile in the science fiction section. I picked up a copy of The Last Watch. I probably won’t jump in right away, but I couldn’t resist.
I hope you have a great week, Tammy!
I hope you love The Last Watch as much as I did:-) Have a nice week, Wendy!
The pics your husband takes are always cool! 🙂
Have a great week and happy reading!

Week in Review
Thanks Stormi, you too!
Wow! Those are some big ears on that rabbit.
And, if not for this post, I’d never have known that there’s actually a bird called roadrunner. I thought they made it up for the cartoon.
Ha ha ok that is pretty funny. I guess I know because I grew up in the desert so we saw roadrunners occasionally. Not all the time because they are very fast and hard to spot!
Look at that rabbit. It’s body is so well camouflaged that for one moment I thought it’s head was sticking up out of a hole – then I realised of course – but wow.
Lynn 😀
