Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
Hope everyone had a good week! Hubby took an overnight trip to a nature preserve in Perris, CA this past week, and I’ve picked out two of my favorite photos from that trip (see below). Both my kids are in the process of getting vaccinated, so I’m relieved that soon all four of us will be finished. My daughter is coming home to visit soon (actually Mother’s Day weekend!). So all is good, maybe not exciting but I’m not complaining:-)
Upcoming reviews:
I feel like I’ve been really lucky this month with my reading, and this past week is a good example of that. I loved Eye of the Sh*t Storm by Jackson Ford. It’s the third book in his series and it might be my favorite! Look for my review tomorrow. On Thursday, I’m planning on reviewing The Last Watch by J.S. Dewes. I’m not finished with this yet, but wow! I’m having a blast with it so far. And I’d love to squeeze one more review in on Saturday, but we’ll see how that goes. Maybe a novella like Murder By Other Means by John Scalzi, perhaps?
Upcoming reads:
No matter how fast I read, I’m never going to catch up with my April pile, unfortunately. But I hope to put a dent in it this week with Stormland, Mirrorland, and The Alien Stars. I’ve read some amazing reviews for both Stormland and Mirrorland (also I love that the titles are so similar this week!), and I’m looking forward to reading more Tim Pratt.
The usual memes…
I’m jumping in with Top Ten Tuesday this week, since the topic is “colorful books,” and I’m all about book covers! Wednesday I’ll have three new SFF books to share on Future Fiction, and The Friday Face-Off is “current read.”
In case you missed:
Did you miss any of my posts from last week?
The Friday Face-Off: Grabby hands!
Near the Bone by Christina Henry – Review 4/5
Composite Creatures by Caroline Hardaker – Review 4.5/5
Mina and the Undead by Amy McCaw – Review 3/5
Murder By Other Means is definitely a quick one, it was enjoyable too, though not nearly as punchy as the first one. I also would love to get to Mirrorland this week, and The Last Watch as well!
April just has too many books in it, lol. I’m stressing out big time:-)
The new Scalzi novella should be out by the end of the month, and I’m more than looking forward to it: he’s one of my “compulsive buy” authors after all… 🙂

I preordered the Scalzi and I hope to get it soon!
Eye of the Sh*t Storm alread gets bonus points from me because I love the title. Can’t wait to read your review of it!

The titles of that series are so good:-)
I am a bit curious just by the title and cover of Murder by Other Means! Hope you get to review it soon. 🙂 I am like you I will not get to all my April books but I tried…lol.
Have a great week and happy reading!
Stormi
Thanks Stormi, hope you have a good week as well:-)
The third book of a series might be your favorite? That’s fantastic, I love when a series just gets stronger. I’m looking forward to your review of The Last Watch. And thanks for the reminder about Mother’s Day! 🙂
The Last Watch is amazing! I tried to make a bigger dent in it this weekend but I was too busy to read as much as I wanted.
I’m still trying to fit in the first Jackson Ford book but I have it on hold at the library. I’m glad everyone is getting vaccinated. We are having a family wedding Mother’s Day weekend so we will be traveling too. I’m not sure how I feel about it.

I can see why you’d be a little nervous about attending a wedding, but hopefully it will be safe and go smoothly.
My daughter is coming home to visit next week, but she’ll be back at Uni for Mother’s Day.
Our vaccination rollout is a debacle, it seems unlikely I’ll get one until next year, and it will be a while after that before under 18’s will be eligible. I do need to get my flu shot organised though.
Wishing you a great reading week
Oh no, sorry to hear that about your vaccines, I hope things change for the better. Take care and have a good week:-)
Love the pics. The bird one is beautful!
Isn’t it beautiful? It’s so ethereal and magical:-) Thanks Paul!
It’s been so crazy I have so many of your reviews to go back and read this week. And some good ones coming up this week! That’s awesome that your kids are getting vaccinated too. We can start getting back to kind of normal maybe.

I hope so! I am so over mask wearing, just like everyone I’m sure. That’s going to be the real celebration, the day we can stop wearing masks completely:-)
Sounds like your husband was in my neck of the woods recently–nearby anyway. The photos are lovely. I hope he enjoyed his time at the nature preserve. I am glad to hear your kids will be vaccinated soon and that your daughter will be coming to visit. You’ve reminded me I need to think of something to get my mother and mother-in-law for Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day always creeps up on me. I am glad you have had a good reading week. I feel like I did too. I hope you have a great week, Tammy!
I didn’t know we were neighbors! Mother’s Day always sneaks up on me too, and can I just say it sneaks up on my husband and kids as well;-)
That’s so great that you all will be vaccinated! My husband and I are official now, and I’m very relieved.
It is a big relief. I can’t wait until I’m able to visit my parents without masks and give them hugs!
Yay that all of your family will soon be vaccinated! I’ll be glad once they approve a vaccine for my son’s age range. He’s 13 so a little too young for what we have available so far. That’s great that you’ve had such a great reading month so far. Mine has been pretty good too. I’m reading the new Andy Weir at the moment and loving it.
I can’t wait to start the Andy Weir!
The first novella from the Alien Stars I liked, but the second was a miss for me. Jury’s still out on #3 (haven’t read it ). Hope you like it better! I love the landscape from your husband! Where is that?
Good to know, thanks Will. That landscape is a small nature preserve in southern California:-) (Perris, CA)
Wow, the pictures are amazing! And I am glad that you all are getting vaccinated, yay!!
On the bookish side of things, I am curious to read your review on The Last Watch. I hope to read that book soon and I am mighty curious!
So glad to hear you’re enjoying The Last Watch so far! I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on Mirrorland eventually as well, it’s one I’ve been really intrigued by. I hope you have a great week!
It’s amazing how covid has changed our outlook and little things, may not sound exciting, but are still looked forward to with anticipation. Your husband’s photos – just wow.
I must catch up with your review for Near the Bone – I’m picking that one up soon.
Lynn 😀
I really loved The Last Watch, so glad you’re enjoying it too!
