Future Fiction #116 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

It’s Tor week! Take a look at three upcoming releases from Tor imprints:

Farscape meets The Great British Bake Off in this fantastic space opera You Sexy Thing from former SFWA President, Cat Rambo.

Just when they thought they were out…

TwiceFar station is at the edge of the known universe, and that’s just how Niko Larson, former Admiral in the Grand Military of the Hive Mind, likes it.

Retired and finally free of the continual war of conquest, Niko and the remnants of her former unit are content to spend the rest of their days working at the restaurant they built together, The Last Chance.

But, some wars can’t ever be escaped, and unlike the Hive Mind, some enemies aren’t content to let old soldiers go. Niko and her crew are forced onto a sentient ship convinced that it is being stolen and must survive the machinations of a sadistic pirate king if they even hope to keep the dream of The Last Chance alive.

You Sexy Thing by Cat Rambo. Releases in September 2021 from Tor Books. OK first of all, this book wins the award for Best Title of 2021, hands down! And second, Farscape meets The Great British Bake Off?? Seriously, take my money now:-D

The English language debut of the bestselling Dutch novel, Hex, from Thomas Olde Heuvelt–a Hugo and World Fantasy award nominated talent to watch

Whoever is born here, is doomed to stay ’til death. Whoever settles, never leaves.

Welcome to Black Spring, the seemingly picturesque Hudson Valley town haunted by the Black Rock Witch, a seventeenth century woman whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. Muzzled, she walks the streets and enters homes at will. She stands next to children’s bed for nights on end. Everybody knows that her eyes may never be opened or the consequences will be too terrible to bear.

The elders of Black Spring have virtually quarantined the town by using high-tech surveillance to prevent their curse from spreading. Frustrated with being kept in lockdown, the town’s teenagers decide to break their strict regulations and go viral with the haunting. But, in so doing, they send the town spiraling into dark, medieval practices of the distant past.

This chilling novel heralds the arrival of an exciting new voice in mainstream horror and dark fantasy.

Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. Releases in September 2021 from Tor Nightfire. Nightfire is doing some cool re-releases this year. Last week I shared their upcoming edition of Certain Dark Things, and this week it’s Hex, a book originally published by Tor in 2016. I never got to read it at that time, so I’m happy I have a second chance. I love this cover!

The blockbuster co-writing debut of Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman, All of Us Villains begins a dark tale of ambition and magick…

You Fell In Love With The Victors of The Hunger Games.
Now Prepare To Meet The Villains of The Blood Veil.

After the publication of a salacious tell-all book, the remote city of Ilvernath is thrust into worldwide spotlight. Tourists, protesters, and reporters flock to its spellshops and ruins to witness an ancient curse unfold: every generation, seven families name a champion among them to compete in a tournament to the death. The winner awards their family exclusive control over the city’s high magick supply, the most powerful resource in the world.

In the past, the villainous Lowes have won nearly every tournament, and their champion is prepared to continue his family’s reign. But this year, thanks to the influence of their newfound notoriety, each of the champions has a means to win. Or better yet–a chance to rewrite their story.

But this is a story that must be penned in blood.

All of Us Villains (All of Us Villains #1) by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman. Releases in November 2021 from Tor Teen. I have never read a book by Amanda Foody, but I see her name on blogs all the time. I’m very curious about this one. The cover rocks, and the story sounds really good!

  1. I like the cover and description for You Sexy Thing, though the comparison to The Great British Bake Off has me a bit uncertain. 🙂

  2. You Sexy Thing is a great title–and I like that the cover is so different than one might expect with a title like that. It sounds like it will be a great read. All of Us Villains is on my radar too. I really want to read that one. I hope you get a chance to read all three of these books, Tammy! Have a great day!

I know, that title and the space battle cover are so odd together! It really makes me wonder what the story’s like.

Yes, very funny title, and I think combined with the author’s name it’s a book you won’t forget, lol.

  3. Some great choices as always. I have a copy of Hex but I have to admit, the cover here is so much better. I still need to read it though but that’s another story, I just saw All of Us Villains yesterday and added it to my TBR so I’m not shocked to see it here as well!

  4. I want to read You Sexy Thing as soon as I have read that title! It is simply too good to pass. And the fact that the synopsis sounds mighty interesting helps along!
And also All of Us Villains sounds intriguing. I think it could be really good or really bad, no middle ground here… But to know which one I would have to read it (oh the sacrifices that bookworm have to make!! )

    • Tammy

I hear her name a lot but I’ve never read any of her books either. Hopefully this will be the first!
