The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: An alien encounter
I had a couple of options for this week’s theme, but I decided to go with Armada by Ernest Cline. If you haven’t read the story, it’s about a video-game playing teen who sees a flying saucer one day, and soon realizes that Earth is being invaded by aliens. I thought this was a pretty fun story, and although the covers don’t show actual aliens, I thought this book would fit the theme. Here are some covers I found:
U.S. hardcover edition 2015 | U.S. paperback edition 2016 | German edition 2017
German edition 2018 | Czech edition 2016 | Italian edition 2018
Romanian edition 2017 | Hungarian edition 2015 | Chinese edition 2018
For me, it’s a toss up between the two U.S. editions, I love both the hardcover and the paperback. But the paperback is a little more interesting, so that’s my pick!
All of these covers each have something special so it’s hard to choose a favorite but I think I will pick the Czech edition!

Great choice!
Yours is definitely my favourite. I just love the gaming view.
Lynn 😀
I like the US paperback. Seems to capture it all.
The Romanian one reminds me of a retro video game and I like that. 🙂
It has to be the first one as that’s the copy I have!
This one’s tough. I think I like the Hungarian edition best!

That’s a great one! I’ve featured this book too for a past FF, I can’t remember which I actually picked as my fave but I’m sure the paperback was high up there.
Wow awesome site, i am definitely following. Please show your support and follow my Maggazine with Vogue photographer Marco Gaffarelli http://www.alchemiimagazine.com looking forward to reading more of your content.
Oh good pick. I like the one you went with here, it feels like it captures the point of the book. And also has this sense of impending doom to it.
I think my favorite is the US hardcover and the Italian. 🙂
Agree with your choice, though that guy doesn’t look like a teenager, haha. I also like the very first cover (U.S. hardcover edition 2015) because of the color-font overall look. Seems like a fun book on UFOs!
