Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
Hope everyone is had a good week! It’s in the high 80s here in California, which is sort of strange for January. I shouldn’t complain, I guess, since it is sort of nice, ha ha. In other news, my daughter released another song a few days ago and I just love it. I’m embedding it hear if you’re interested in having a listen. It’s available on all streaming services too, just saying;-)
Upcoming reviews:
Tomorrow my review for Hall of Smoke by H.M. Long will be up. Wow, this was a really good debut! If you love Norse mythology-inspired stories full of gods, battles and magic, you’ll love this too. I’m also planning on posting my review of The Gulp by Alan Baxter. I wasn’t going to read this until next month, but on a whim I read the first story in this collection and I’m hooked. Baxter is an Australian horror writer and wow I’m impressed!
Upcoming reads:
So, I’m not sure what I’m reading next. I’m at that point in the month where I’m starting to panic: I still have about five January review books left to read, and I really want to get ahead with a couple of early February releases as well. So panic mode, which means I have no idea!! Also, I still have not started The Mask of Mirrors, and I’m hearing more and more negative things about it, so I’m not sure what to do. These three are the books I have my eye on to start next: The Forever Sea, Threader Origins and Winter’s Orbit. Help me pick! Ha ha.
The usual memes…
Tuesday I’ll be posting something new that I’ve seen lots of bloggers doing, my Five Star Predictions for the First Half of 2021. Wednesday stop by Future Fiction for three new SFF cover reveals, The Friday Face-Off is “aliens,” and I think I’ll be posting an Over-Booked book haul post on Saturday.
In case you missed…
Here are my posts from last week if you missed any:
Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire – Review 3/5 stars
The Friday Face-Off: Spaceships & Explosions
Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor – Review 4/5 stars
Blogging and Reading Goals for 2021
Doors of Sleep by Tim Pratt – Review 4.5/5 stars
I really want to find the time to read Hall of Smoke so I’m looking forward to seeing what you think! I’ve also heard a lot of negative things about The Mask of Mirrors which is disappointing because it sounded really good and now I’m torn about whether or not to read it.
I think I’m going to start Mask of Mirrors and see if the first few chapters pull me in.
Guess I’d vote for the Forever Sea as it sounds more interesting than Threader Origins, and Winter’s Orbit claims to be a bit of a romance novel. But it’s your call! I actually finished my January books (I only had 4) yesterday and I wish you the best of luck with yours. You can do this! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Hall of Smoke!
Forever Sea is winning, so it’s more or less a done deal at this point:-)
The picture is sooo cute! And I would come back soon to listen to the song (I am so curious! And the previous one you shared was beautiful so… I am curious!), and I hope to read both Hall of Smoke and Winter’s Orbit soon, so I am looking forward to your reviews!!
It sounds like we’ll have a few books coming up to compare notes to:-)
I’m voting for The Forever Sea. Thanks for sharing your daughter’s song!
Thanks for the vote, I’m pretty sure that’s next:-)
Oh I can’t wait to see what you think of The Gulp, I am just starting the third story. I liked the first one , but not so much the second one, it was weird and not a fan of how it ended, but I have hopes for the next one. I am hit or miss with short horror. I am liking Alan Baxter much more in this one (less F words) than his book The Roo…lol.
Your daughter has a nice voice!
Have a great week and happy reading!
Stormi
Thanks Stormi, you too:-)
Your daughter is very talented, so thanks for sharing that beautiful song!
And I’m voting for Threader Origin: it sounds amazing… 🙂

How beautiful, Tammy! Both the song and the photo of the deer. Wow! I hope you enjoy whichever books you pick up. ♥️
Thanks Jenni:-)
There’s a lot of talent in your family! I’m looking forward to hearing about Hall of Smoke, and as a nudge for the near future, The Forever Sea. 🙂
Thanks Todd!
Your Daughter has a lovely voice. I’ll take those 80s here, please. LOL I have The Gulp to read and hoping I have fun with it.

I love your daughter’s song. Thank you for sharing. 🙂 This weather is nice, isn’t it? I’m sure it will cool off again soon enough. I am glad you enjoyed Hall of Smoke, and I look forward to your review. I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to read next. I have my eye on The Forever Sea. At least it’s on my wish list. I hope you have a great week, Tammy!
Thanks Wendy, hope you have a great week as well:-)
It’s unsurprising your daughter is talented with talented parents. It sounds like nice weather, enjoy! I know the overbooked feeling. My lack of movement has been helping me read a lot though so I’m hanging in there.

Oh maaaan, tough decisions. My vote is for either the Forever Sea or Winter’s Orbit! I’m excited to hear your thoughts on both!
I have a feeling I’m going to start The Forever Sea next. I’m so curious about it!
Upper 80’s in January is pretty strange. I hope it cools down a little. Congratulations on your daughter’s song.
Winter’s Orbit is the book of those three that I have my eye on so that would be my choice for you! I hope you have a good week, Tammy!
