The Friday Face-Off – Spaceships & Explosions

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: An aerial encounter: Spaceships and explosions.

This week I’m highlighting a series I have NOT read yet, but desperately want to (does that count?). I’m sure everyone is familiar with The Expanse, and boy are the covers full of aerial encounter/spaceships/explosions goodness! Here are all nine covers in all their glory:

Have you read The Expanse series? Do you have a favorite cover?

  1. I was fervently hoping that, given this week’s subject, someone would pick up my beloved The Expanse for a cover show: and here it comes! :-). All these covers are nothing short of amazing, just as the story itself. I hope you will manage to start it sooner or later: luckily for you, the last book will come out this year, so you will not have to wait for the new installments!

  2. I think they are all marvellous – but if I have a favourite, it’s Cibola Burn because the angle of the building… They are all so clever and awesome, though… I started reading it, but it’s one of those series that got away from me. I need to reconnect with it:)). Thank you for this wonderful display of fabulous covers, Tammy.

  3. Don’t they all look fantastic together. A series that I also haven’t started but I would love to and in fact bought the first book years ago. Perhaps we should get our heads together and try to read the first one during the next Sci-Fi event in November.

  4. Like you, I haven’t read The Expanse (or watched it), but really want to. I’ve heard so many great things about it. I can’t pick a favorite here so I’ll just say the tapestry of them all is my favorite. πŸ™‚

I’m reading Babylon’s Ashes now, because rumor has it that some of that story line may be used in this year’s television arc, which is mostly Nemesis Games. I can’t decide whether I like reading after watching the stories or whether it’s better to read ahead. They do change plot details for the show, and some of them are major. The visuals in the television show are amazing, especially on large screen TV, and the actors really capture (& sometimes add depth to) the characters. So… I’m recommending both the books & the television series. Oh, we were talking about the covers, weren’t we? I agree with the comment pointing out how impressive they look together.

  6. That is a great set of covers, and thanks for adding the nifty trilogy touch. My personal favorites are those in the first row, looks just a little bit more arty to my biased eyes.

  7. I’ve got the first book and I’ve tried to watch the tv show but I keep hitting a brick wall with it, I’ll try it another day! Great covers though!
