Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
It’s Thanksgiving week which means I only have to work three days this week! Since we’re doing a very low key holiday celebration this year, I’m hoping to catch up on my reading, which I’m frightfully behind on. I hope everyone who is celebrating has a safe and happy day!
In the “very exciting news” category, I got a new car yesterday! It wasn’t something I planned on doing, especially during a pandemic when I’m trying not to go anywhere I don’t have to go. But my eleven-year-old Ford Escape needs an expensive brake job, so we decided not to put any more money into it. My new car is a Subaru Crosstrek and I love it so far. I chose Subaru because they donate money to charities and they feature dogs in their commercials, lol. I swear, all you marketing people out there, put a dog in a TV commercial and you’ve hooked me.
We’re headed toward the end of Sci-Fi Month, so I’m trying to squeeze in one more SF book by the end of the month. I have to say I haven’t done very well with my SF reading pile, but that’s how it goes. I have had a blast this month as I do every year, although I am exhausted and I’m looking forward to December, which is going to be a more relaxed, catch up month. I do have a big giveaway coming up on November 30th, so watch out for that. I’ll pick two winners (International) who can choose any science fiction book I talked about this month. Stay tuned for details!
How about a beautiful, haunting and surreal bird photo? Here you go:
Upcoming reviews:
Like I said, I’m a little behind, and I wasn’t able to get my review for The Rush’s Edge up last week. So look for that review this week, as well as Call of the Bone Ships, which I’m currently reading and LOVING.
Upcoming reads:
Eight Cylinders is showing up again under “upcoming reads,” so wish me luck! I think with four days off work, I shouldn’t have any trouble getting through at least two of these. I’d love to squeeze in Nophek Gloss as my last official Sci-Fi Month read, and then I need to start These Violent Delights, which is a November review book and obviously, I’m a little late reading it.
The usual memes…
I’m very excited for Tuesday, when I’ll be posting my Top Ten Science Fiction Books of 2020 So Far, and I’m doing the “5 Star Books in Five Words” version, don’t miss it! Wednesday will be my last Future Fiction post of Sci-Fi Month. It’s been fun highlighting so many upcoming 2021 releases, but I will be glad to add back in fantasy and horror next week. The Friday Face-Off is “Modern Sci-Fi” and I’m not sure what that is yet, lol. But I’ll figure it out. And finally, on Saturday will be my last group of self-published SF authors in Self Published Sci-Fi Saturday #4. It’s been so much fun hosting these wonderful authors, and I hope you’ve enjoyed these posts!
In case you missed…
My posts from last week:
Over-Booked – A Book Haul Post
Self Published Sci-Fi Saturday #3
The Friday Face-Off: Words Only
Sci-Fi Books with the Word “Star” in the Title
The Children of Red Peak by Craig DiLouie – Review 4.5/5 stars
Yay for the new car!!
And the pic is amazing! I am looking forward to your Top Ten because I am really really curious to see the books you would put in there!
I feel like it’s been a great year, and the fact that I found ten science fiction books for my list says a lot:-)
A friend of mine has a Subaru and from everything they’ve said it’s one of the best vehicles they’ve every owned.
That bird photo is amazing!
Thanks Lauren!
My current car is my first Subaru, an Impreza hatchback. I’m lovin’ it so far, so I hope you do, too. And I’m lovin’ that photo, too. Very interesting color scheme and the egret really stands out. Cormorants are always fun, too. I’m really curious to read what you think about These Voilent Delights and Nophek Gloss.
Oh cool, glad you’re also a Subaru owner. I need to read the owner’s manual because mine has a lot of fancy electronic things and I don’t know how to use them yet, lol.
Well, it sounds like it was about time for a new car! That photo is great! You guys must have some really cool places to go to get photos…lol.
Have a great week!

We do have some wildlife areas around, but my husband has a knack for knowing just the right time of day to go in order to see the most birds.
Those birds in the fog are nothing short of AMAZING…. 🙂
And I look forward to reading your review on Call of the Bone Ships, although your sentence about loving it already says a lot!

It’s so good, I’m savoring it but hope to get a review up, maybe Thursday:-)
I love that the commercial dogs helped you want your car! 🙂
Whatever marketing firm they hired is brilliant:-)
That’s the first time ever that I’ve heard someone buying a car because there are …dogs in the commercial LOL That made me smile so big Tammy!
I hope you’ll have an excellent week and a great Thanksgiving, even if it’s on a small scale this year.
Ha ha, here in the US our Subaru car commercials all show families with puppies and they buy a new Subaru and then 12 years later their dog is older and they still have the same car, lol. Makes me cry every time!
I laughed out loud at the dog comment hahahah I’m happy for you and your new car though! I’ve been contemplating the purchase of my first car for a while but the pandemic did not help there! 😀

I never thought I’d buy a new car during the pandemic, but the timing just worked out that way I guess, lol.
Enjoy your new car! I hate changing once I get used to one and tend to keep my 10 years or more. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving and find more time to read than expected!
It’s definitely an adjustment getting used to a new car:-) Thanks Anne!
Enjoy your new car! We’ve been driving Subarus for years, and love them! (I actually just got a non-Subaru for the first time in 15 years, but my husband is driving my former car and it’s wonderful). Enjoy your reading! I’m hoping to get to Nophek Gloss soon too, but haven’t quite been in the mood yet.
Oh cool, I love hearing from people who love their Subarus:-)
That picture is gorgeous! Your hubby is so talented. Congrats on the new car and yep, I totally understand. That’s the same reason my last vacuum and carpet cleaner are Bissell’s. They donate to pets and rescue programs. Coming from the girl who buys a book if there is a dog on the cover, are we really surprised?
We’re doing a low-key Thanksgiving too. Just the two of us and the pups. I’m hoping my Uncle is home to spend Thanksgiving with Gpa so he can stay home and low-key as well. COVID is crazy around here and I ended up getting tested Friday because Mr. Barb was exposed at work (no symptoms for either so it’s just a precaution). My boss managed to find a position for me where I can work from home but I’m still not getting full time hours but we are definitely more fortunate than most.
Yes! I have plans to get a Bissell too:-) You’re lucky you can work from home, I wish I could. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving!
I’ve heard good things about Subarus. Congratulations! And I love SciFi Month but haven’t participated this year0 just been to hectic but I have been enjoying the posts I’ve seen. It’s one of my favorite blog events of the year.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks Greg, you too:-)
Congrats on the new car. That’s awesome! And I’m right with you on hoping I can get caught up on my reading (and my blogging) over the holiday weekend.
Wishing us both luck with our reading!
Curious to hear what you thought of The Rush’s Edge. I have been seeing some mixed reviews, and I thought I saw a comment from you somewhere that made me think you were slightly disappointed 🙁
You’ll probably read my review soon! Yeah, not great, unfortunately.
Yay, new car! This is exactly why we got my husband a new car last month–expensive repairs on an 11 year old car that was becoming a beater just wasn’t worth throwing more money into it. 🙂
That bird photo is GORGEOUS, I love it so much!
Hope you have a fantastic week, Tammy!
Thanks Lisa, you too!
Good for the new car, repairing those old cars do cost an arm. I see the cover of These Violent delights everywhere, I’m curious to read your review when you get to it. Beautiful picture, thanks for sharing 🙂

That photo is hauntingly beautiful.
