The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “You’re on Earth. There’s no cure for that.” – A cover with planets.

There was lots to choose from this week, and I’ve decided to go with Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente. This was a fun story about an intergalactic singing competition, based on the very popular Eurovision. I only found three covers but I think they all work well, take a look:
U.S. Gallery/Saga Press 2018 edition. I love this one, it’s probably my favorite. The design is simple yet over-the-top, and the disco ball/planet gives you a good idea of what you’re in for. Plus the colors really pop and I love the neon effect. Also that tag line!
2020 Italian edition. I like this one too. They stuck with the neon pink color, and this quirky bunch of objects also does a good job telling you what the story is about.
Hungarian 2019 edition. I like this one too! I love that all three publishers stuck with the neon pink colors. This cover focuses on the music aspect of the story. It’s not my favorite, but I do like it.

I like all three covers, so a choice would be difficult here…
And I’m reminded that I was intrigued by this book and wanted to read it – one of these days… π
It’s very different from my usual reads, but I love the author and I’ll try anything she writes.
I haven’t read this book, but the Hungarian cover makes me want to!
It’s a lot of fun, a bit on the crazy side, but fun:-)
Honestly, none of these really appeal to me, but I’ll pick the Saga Press edition. Something about that disco ball bringing back memories that perhaps are better left unremembered… π
Ha ha I actually have fond memories of disco. Is that weird??
Great pick!
Thanks!
My favourite is the top one! I haven’t read this one – and yet I’d like to. She’s a very talented author with a quirky take on the world:)). Great choice for this week’s theme, Tammy!
This is fun, I think you’d enjoy it!
I do love how the colors are the same with all of these but I still think I like the top one the best!
Agreed, the first one is just all around the best, I think.
Great choice! I really love that they all stuck with the same color scheme, also, it gives them a nice cohesiveness for the story. I probably ilke the US original the most, it’s a lot of fun and really in your face.
It’s an in your face story, so that first cover makes sense:-)
I love your choice, a planet that looks like a giant disco ball – no brainer.
Lynn π
I loved this cover the moment I saw it:-)
Wow! Those Italian and Hungarian covers are so odd now that I’ve seen them hahaha
Ha ha, well it is an odd story!
I think I like the first one best, but maybe I’m biased because I have the hardcover and I know it’s even prettier in person π
I think I like the first one best, too, Tammy. Itβs just so fun and I love that disco ball!
Ooh, the Hungarian one is perfect!
The last one is my favorite! And no I haven’t read it yet π
Definitely the first one, still to read!
I haven’t read this one yet, but I really love that Italian cover!
I LOOOOOOVE the original cover for this so much, it’s one of my faves. π
